Democratic Primaries

And she's at 3 cents on PredictIt.
What exactly is she trying to prove by remaining in the race?
Other than taking away support that real moderate contenders like Joe or Pete need to give them a chance against Bernie.
Her views don't seem to be that dissimilar to Joe or Petes; the single best thing she can do is throw in the towel and ask her supporters to back Biden.
Its time.

(301 posts)And while she's out there deciding, Saunders gets closer and closer to the nomination.
Does she really want that?
Her personal vanity should not outweigh the need to defeat Trump.
She knows whats the right step.

(301 posts)Not her fault.
She's playing on a team with common objective (get rid of Trump).
Sometimes when you're on a team you need to take a personal hit to help the team reach its objective.
Biden, Warren, Pete are all still in the game, she's not so the best thing she can do is not detract from their support.
Thats true teamwork.

(1,327 posts)Look at it from her point of view.
If things continue as they're going now, Bernie will have a plurality of delegates. There are too many candidates crowding the moderate lane.
None of the moderate candidates are going to drop out just for the heck of it. The only reason anyone would drop out would be if it is somehow advantageous to them.
Right now Amy has delegates. So do Pete and Elizabeth (the other two I keep reading should drop out.) They get to be in the debates. My guess is they're going to stay in all the way until the convention (and try to get a VP slot) or if Biden or Bloomberg makes one of them a VP offer earlier than that to try to clear up the moderate lane.
Plus, you just never know what happens to change the equation. I think Kamala Harris dropped out too early. Everyone said Biden was the only one who was electable. We just watched him come in 4th and 5th in the first two contests. Things can change.
Dropping out now gains Klobuchar nothing.

(25,183 posts)I expect that she will drop out. She probably has very little support in SC that would give her a Super Tuesday boost.

(10,131 posts)She may get a VP or Cabinet position
Getting her name out there is good for her ... and Pete and many of the others.
It's also good for her reelection as a Senator.
I think she got some dough in for her New Hampshire performance. Spending a little to hang on into Super Tuesday is not all bad. By then, about half the Democrats in the country would have had a chance to see her name on a ballot.
She hasn't been a top tier candidate but she's had a respectable showing and got some delegates (which she might be able to use at a brokered convention).
I wouldn't fault her for playing it out a little more. She's earned it.
And that is a great thing for this with Pete. If he doesn't prevail, he's well positioned and experienced to take a run the next time this comes up.
Runner up in 2016 doesn't look like it hurt Sanders too badly.

(25,183 posts)Amy's been running some TV ads in SC, so she's keeping her name out there.
As far as a Cabinet position goes, if that happened, there'd be an open seat for Senator in Minnesota, and that might not be desirable for a Democratic administration to create a vacancy for. Pete Buttigieg is a natural for a Cabinet position in a Democratic administration in 2021. Something that gave him foreign policy experience would be great preparation for his next presidential run.
Pete's got to get a job in the next four years if he doesn't go all the way, and if (god forbid) Trump wins a second term, I don't know what that might be. He ran for the chair of the DNC before, and it can be presumed that Tom Perez would be out if Trump won again, especially if the GOP held the Senate, and we lost seats in the House that were gained in 2018. That would be a possibility, and having Pete use his smarts for making more gains in 2022 is not a bad place for him to be.

Yours also begs the question: At what point in the polls do you posit a candidate should drop out, and on what objective measure do you arrive at that number?

(301 posts)What conviction could there be other than ensuring her party wins and we get rid of Trump? The biggest step she can do right now to help that is by ensuring the stronger moderate canidates (Biden, Pete, Warren) consolidate some of the support and move ahead to challenge Bernie.
What number to drop out at? Lets keep it simple, how about < 1%.

(37,748 posts)Look... I get it. We like to pretend we have better knowledge of electoral math than candidates do.
We also like to pretend we have absolute knowledge of why a particular candidate is *really* running at the expense of their own words (ironically though, we'll always find an excuse to fail in providing objective evidence to support our little premise. Every time).
As long as we realize it's merely pretense and wishful thinking on our parts when we do so, rather than objective analysis based on real-world data. So calling it 'logic' is no more valid than calling my black lab the best chess player in the state of Montana.

(301 posts)You're over complicating it.
This is quite common, you're expecting some sort of scientific measure, but this is unfortunately missing the woods beause you're so focussed on looking for the tree's.
The reality is quite simple; Bernie's on his way to the nomination if the moderates don't consolidate fast.
The weakest needs to take one for the team.
That is Amy.
Biden's still the strongest contender and yesterday Warren and Pete both proved they got some punch.
Sorry, that might sound like your black lab test buts its the grim reality.
