Warren, who has previously said that she would disavow the support of a super PAC that sought to aid her bid for the presidency, told reporters that she had changed her mind after failing to get her rivals to join her in repudiating the outside spending groups.
The reversal is a dramatic change of heart for the Massachusetts progressive. Warren boasted during the Democratic debate in New Hampshire earlier this month that only she and Sen. Amy Klobuchar lacked super PAC backers.
But, on Thursday, Warren said that the fact that only the "two women" didn't have super PAC support was "just not right."
"So here's where I stand. If all the candidates want to get rid of super PACs, count me in. I'll lead the charge," Warren said. "But that's how it has to be. It can't be the case that a bunch of people keep them and only one or two don't."

(25,472 posts)Post-Citizens United, it takes massive amounts of cash - and a lot of help - to accomplish anything. Take what you can get because you're going to need it. Even Bernie Sanders, who complains about Super PACs perhaps more than anyone, gets help from Our Revolution, one he *founded*.

My campaign finance rules for the Democratic primary:
❌No PAC money
❌No federal lobbyist money
❌No special access for wealthy donors
❌No asking billionaires to start a Super PAC
I challenge every other candidate to do the same thing.

(108,980 posts)Bernie, on the other hand, set up Our Revolution, which is dark money -- even less regulated than a pac.

(7,143 posts)Candidates cannot coordinate with PACs. They can, however, receive money and other in-kind contributions from them - which she now (appropriately) is "willing" to accept.
That said, her campaign has been the recipient of support from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (which includes a PAC and a Super PAC) since she first ran for office, and continuing throughout her Presidential campaign.
That Senator Sanders is a hypocrite on this issue should come as no surprise to anyone. Senator Warren no longer is, so she should be commended for her current stance.

(11,045 posts)Warren has stated repeatedly she will attend big donor fundraisers, and welcome Super PAC support in the Gernal election.
When Amy Klobuchar, the other candidate standing without a Super PAC (excepting Bloomberg), made her announcement about 'Kitchen Table Conversations', Warren's disarmament came to an end.
The wisdom of keeping big donors at arms length during the primaries was well illustrated by Bloomberg telling the donor circuit to 'sit out' donating to Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar.
