about not having Warren as President:
I have no doubt she would have prosecuted that orange traitor pervert. I don't think Biden will.

(7,609 posts)That has not served us well for the last 40 years. The GOP will not compromise and that is clear - time for action not rhetoric.

(17,984 posts)With Republican Senators. It would not surprise me if they were glad and will cross the aisle to vote in November. I am sure many are relieved.
And, the Stock Market rebounded almost 600 points on the news of the Biden win!

(7,609 posts)compromise is when each side gets something. In the past that usually meant the Dems getting nothing and declaring victory. As far as the stock market I wouldn't get to excited. I suspect it has more to do with the politicized FED's actions rather than primary results. Call me cynical but I've heard this song and dance for the last 45 years.

(17,984 posts)If you wish but that is the way things happen in Congress. You give a little you get a little. That is called negotiation.
Bill Clinton balance the budget, started paying off the debt by negotiating with Newt Gingrich while they were trying to impeach him.

(115,683 posts)The DoJ is supposed to be independent. Presidents shouldn't ever decide who will and who won't be prosecuted - this is what we have been complaining about so loudly wrt Trump and Barr. Presidents shouldn't run on a platform of promising to prosecute their predecessors no matter how much they might deserve it. If the DoJ has reason to believe crimes have been committed there will be investigations and, if appropriate, prosecutions. This should be done without input or comment or from the president or any other behavior that would give rise to accusations of politically-motivated prosecution; the Attorney General should manage that process independently from the president. I have no doubt that there will be investigations and grand juries but the president absolutely has to stay out of it.

(115,683 posts)That would be interfering with the work of the DoJ and would be just as bad as insisting that they prosecute someone. I don't think he rolls that way.

(16,784 posts)And the Constitution, a DOJ under a Democrat, should prosecute Trump. Tit for tat.
Donald Trump caused a lot of pain to Joe Biden. Many in the House and Senate as well. Mitch McConnell should not sleep easy from now until January 2021. With now that a fire has been lit in the bellies of those running for Congress, State races, the Government will be back again serving the people, not pledging loyalty to just one man.

(115,683 posts)I hope the new AG appoints an independent counsel to investigate Trump and his family and his administration. I hope there are appropriate prosecutions. But the president has to stay out of it.

(115,683 posts)I think that going after members of the Bush administration, as bad as they were, would have been trickier because a lot of what they did had the support of Congress. Proving their crimes would have been more difficult than proving Trump's crimes, since Trump does most of them in public, and at the time Obama took office he was dealing with a major financial crisis that he probably felt needed all hands on deck. I would have loved to have seen Dick Cheney in an orange jumpsuit, but I get why Obama decided to focus on other things. He was an honest guy who wouldn't have pressured his DoJ one way or the other.

You think Schiff after everything he's seen as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee won't go after trump's officials? After all the insults? Don't think there's an advantage with Harris there.
