20. And She's Not The Most Disliked Polticiian In America
Mon Feb 25, 2019, 06:51 PM
Feb 2019

“In a poll Gallup conducted between December 3 and December 12, 15% of Americans said they admired Michele Obama more than any other woman. She easily bested Oprah Winfrey, who was mentioned by 5% of Americans. Hillary Clinton, who has been the most admired woman each year for the last 17 years, landed in third place with 4% of mentions. Current first lady Melania Trump was also cited by 4% of Americans in the poll.”

70. This does not dispute that she is unpopular -- it says that 4% of the people
Mon Feb 25, 2019, 08:17 PM

listed her as most admired. What it means is that she has a significant group of people who respect her more than anyone else. However, it says nothing of the other 96%. I would assume that many admire her, but admire someone else too. Note that Trump likely is on the comparable male with 13% picking him. Yet, I would argue that he is an unusually unpopular President.

There are polls where people state whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion. Hillary Clinton was underwater (as was Trump) on the comparison of the two in 2016. I would argue that much of that was due to a campaign of lies --and Russian trolls.

However, I think the truth is that she has a larger group of people who admire her and respect her than most people AND she has a larger group of people who have unshakable negative opinions of her than most people. The response to her is extremely polarized.

At this point, as Hillary once said on something else "what difference does it make?" At this point, she has made her mark on history and history, after time passes, will look at what she did. It is possible that she will add to her accomplishments doing things to help Democrats in 2020 and it is possible that she could have a role in a future Democratic Presidency.

"a larger group of people who have unshakable negative opinions of her" and when you consider Oprah has 5% she's doing pretty well. In addition, I'd mention that she beat both Individual ! and B. Sanders by Millions, yet we are always hearing how popular they are so for a Sanders adoree to speak of her in such a manner is both disrespectful and ignoring that she beat his guy by a wide margin.

It says nothing of the other 96 percent. The only comparison to Oprah is that 5 percent admired her most. From this, you can't estimate anything comparable to favorable/unfavorable.

There is not a single poll later than January 2016 where the number favorable is higher than the number unfavorable. (In fact, I think the point where negative started to be higher than positive was in mid 2015 - since June 2015, there are at best a few polls where the numbers are almost the same.

Look at http://pollingreport.com/hrc.htm - There are several different pollsters - all getting that same pattern. It shows that the email stories had a very major impact on favorability early on even as she was seen as the inevitable winner -- and without Comey, she still likely would have won - even with all the Russian interference. (Here I am looking at head to head polls.) This means that even as the majority of the country was indicating that they would vote for her - there were more people answering "unfavorable" than "favorable". (I would suggest that meant they preferred her positions and had faith that she could be a good President - even though they had qualms about her. NOTE - that is absolutely conjecture on my part based on those contradictory results that existed even before Trump became the nominee when she was matched with other Republicans. )

Feb 2019

This means that 4% of the people polled are VERY VERY impressed by Clinton. It says nothing about the remaining 96 %. Note also, she is tied with Melania!

My point is that asking who is your most admired woman is not likely to give any real information on the full distribution of how the entire population views a person. It is possible that there are people further down the list - where fewer say they are the one most admired - who overall have a higher percent of people viewing them favorably.

Note that Trump gets a much higher percent on the male side -- and we KNOW he is seen very unfavorably by over half of the country.

The link to the many polls are not looking at most admired, but at estimates of how the population of US adults views individuals. On those polls, what is clear is that she has more people having an unfavorable impression than a favorable one.

statistical analysis for more than 20 years. I tried to explain things as clearly as I could, but obviously I failed to get you to understand the basic meanings of both your own cited polls and the ones that are designed to measure favorability. I also was not "dunning" Clinton. I was stating accurately what the favorability polls mean. I have a hard time understanding why you can not see that it is entirely possible for 4% of the population to admire someone more than anyone else and for 50% of the population to say they do not see her favorably. (Maybe by taking an analogous example where no emotion is involved? ie would you have a problem if data showed that 4% of the women picked brown as their favorite dress color - while in a different survey 56% of women disliked brown as a dress color? )

PS I am not supporting Sanders - I am undecided between a few others.

it's clear who made the statement, and a rather vicious supporter at that, IMHO, and I think saying HRC is so universally disliked reflects his bias and nothing more.

‘The results are calculated from the combination of responses to two questions – whether a respondent admires the figure at all and then whether they are the figure the respondent admires the most

‘In the list of global-only figures Obama ranks first in 19 countries, compared to only 6 for Bill Gates. However, as the former president performs relatively poorly in populous countries like China (7th) and Russia (12th), Gates – who places in the top four in every country listed –scoops the top spot.’

BS is admired by 1% in these polls…does that mean 99% dislike him? I don't think so.

I NEVER wrote that the 94% who did not admire HRC most, disliked her. In fact, I linked to something that actually asked favorable/unfavorable. I specifically said that you can not estimate whether most people favored anyone given that 4% that admired them most. (Obviously if someone is picked by 50%+ people, you could say that most like her/him.

It is YOU, not me, that is using the percent that most admire someone to project how high the favorability is. I said you mathematically can't do it.

After the Human Rights Campaign announced on Tuesday it would back Clinton, the Sanders campaign criticized the nation’s largest LGBT group in response to a Washington Blade inquiry for a reaction.

It’s understandable and consistent with the establishment organizations voting for the establishment candidate, but it’s an endorsement that cannot possibly be based on the facts and the record,” said Sanders campaign spokesperson Michael Briggs.

snip=============================================

So who knows what prompted the Human Rights Campaign to do what it does — I have trouble myself figuring why they do some of the things they do over the years — but I think the gay men and lesbians all over the country will know who has been their champion for a long, long time and will consider that as they make up their mind on support for his campaign,” Briggs said.

Asked whether he meant to include bisexual and transgender people in his description of gay men and lesbians, Briggs said that was correct and he meant “LGBTQ people all over the country.”

Briggs declined to elaborate on what actions the Human Rights Campaign has taken that he doesn’t understand.

snip==========================================================

Brandon Lorenz, a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, in a statement to the Blade responded to the Sanders campaign’s criticisms.

There are certainly several friends of equality in this race, but the 32 community leaders who comprise HRC’s Board of Directors have unanimously decided that Hillary Clinton is the champion we need to fight for us each day on the campaign trail and every day in the White House,” said Lorenz.

Demands considered by the Sanders campaign ahead of the Democrats’ unity event.

Sanders Team Wanted DNC To Pay For Private Plane For Fall

An internal “End Game” memo left in a Los Angeles hotel restaurant details extraordinary demands considered by the Sanders campaign ahead of the Democrats’ unity event.

snip=======================================

A copy of the memo was shared with BuzzFeed News after it was found on June 5 in a Los Angeles hotel, a DoubleTree where Sanders and his aides stayed that night. The document details the ways the campaign hoped to keep their candidate relevant and further his “political revolution” ahead of the convention kicking off here Monday.

Senior officials from the Sanders campaign declined to comment. The Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

From Politico: [link:https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/25/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-private-jet-flights-1182793|

Just as many former Clinton supporters and staffers continue to hold a grudge against the Vermont senator, many Sanders supporters still nurse grievances about the way the senator and his campaign were treated by the Clinton campaign and the party establishment, including the Democratic National Committee.

Michael Briggs, Sanders’ 2016 campaign spokesman who often traveled with Sanders on the private flights, said Clinton and her staff were “total ingrates” in light of the efforts the Vermont senator put in to try to help elect her in the general election.

“You can see why she’s one of the most disliked politicians in America. She’s not nice. Her people are not nice,” he said. “[Sanders] busted his tail to fly all over the country to talk about why it made sense to elect Hillary Clinton and the thanks that [we] get is this kind of petty stupid sniping a couple years after the fact.”

“It doesn’t make me feel good to feel this way but they’re some of the biggest assholes in American politics,” he added.

People should read the entire article. All this in-fighting is exactly what Trump and Putin want Democrats to do and it is not healthy for our party...

He seems like too much of a bitter hot head to be taken seriously.

After the Human Rights Campaign announced on Tuesday it would back Clinton, the Sanders campaign criticized the nation’s largest LGBT group in response to a Washington Blade inquiry for a reaction.

It’s understandable and consistent with the establishment organizations voting for the establishment candidate, but it’s an endorsement that cannot possibly be based on the facts and the record,” said Sanders campaign spokesperson Michael Briggs.

snip======================================

“So who knows what prompted the Human Rights Campaign to do what it does — I have trouble myself figuring why they do some of the things they do over the years — but I think the gay men and lesbians all over the country will know who has been their champion for a long, long time and will consider that as they make up their mind on support for his campaign,” Briggs said.

Asked whether he meant to include bisexual and transgender people in his description of gay men and lesbians, Briggs said that was correct and he meant “LGBTQ people all over the country.”

Briggs declined to elaborate on what actions the Human Rights Campaign has taken that he doesn’t understand.

And would it surprise the spox to know that the feelings are reciprocated?

I know, right? It's very immature and quite petulant, and doesn't speak very well about the candidate. I think these things are indicative of the attitudes that come from above. These things don't happen in a vacuum. It's representative of the organization and its leadership. Keep in mind that Nina Fucking Turner has just been brought on in 2019... what does that tell you that a Stein-loving, Stein-supporting, Stein-voting person is part of that organization? I know what it says to me, and it's certainly not very flattering, I'll give you that! Might as well have signed on Susan Fucking Sarandon, eh?

Sanders is in for a shock this time! Last time it was easy for him to go around the country just throwing up random policies without any actual plans and let his surrogates attack Clinton 24/7

This time he is one of the frontrunners so it is going to be harder for him to run his campaign like last time. Can't wait for other candidates to attack him the way he attacked Sec. Clinton.

I anticipate he is going to have lots of 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the primary, and he will cling onto his campaign till the bitter end.

This will not be the case in 2020 as there are 16 people running and I'm pretty sure everything in it is in the possession of anyone who hired Clinton staff.

Good gig if you can get it. They completely crossed the line set historically by Presidential campaigns when it comes to not using your Senate office to campaign for the Presidency. Historically, under this scenario, one stops drawing their senate salary. Numerous republicans pulled this stunt in 2016.

But will freely state I supported Bernie Sanders in 2016. The staffer is right-it WAS an asshole move. If 2016 Bernie supporters have one complaint it was unfair bias on the part of the DNC. Now in a contest where half the candidates are embracing ideas and ideals he championed for decades people who opposed them in 2016 and who are sitting on the sidelines smear him for acting exactly like their candidate has done for decades. Fuck that staffer and fuck the moron reporter who gave him ink.

This was pre- social media, and I only saw 3 separate televised incidences of "witchy" behaviors in one day (he got into the act with one) before the main campaign back east with Poppy Bush heard and shut them up.
