Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'm actually fine with there being 44% "Undecided"...
It is far too early to annoint our candidate. I know there are a lot of strong opinions around here, and we do tend to attack each other far too often over issues that may not warrant the intensity of discussion.
But frankly, I want to maintain the sheer number of targets for Fox and Trump's vitriol. Let them stew over which candidate we select.

(3,275 posts)Any of them will make a great president. I can't choose between them right now. The primaries are still a year away in my state.
I also really like some of the other candidates as well. Of course, I will vote and campaign for the democratic candidate in the general election.

(8,020 posts)but I'm going to wait, get to know each candidate better before I decide. I'm also seeing some change their preference. I barely pay any attention to polls a week before an election let alone a year & 1/2 before.

(43,049 posts)and I do have a problem with the "one and only" supporters for various candidates. It does not bode well when you put all your hopes and dreams on one person and that one doesn't make it.
It's not like Trump vs Hillary in the general, where one of them is the unthinkable. Whoever wins the primary will disappoint some, but should be acceptable to all of us. My biggest, hopefully unfounded, fear is that one candidate wins a plurality in the primaries and has a floor fight at the convention, tempting too many supporters of others to stay home.
One thing we could learn from republicans is to follow the leadership at times. There's little evidence Trump caused them to stay home. (The first time, anyway)
BTW, there is almost no talk about the primaries at any of the local committee and fundraising meetings around here. Truth is, nobody gives a shit at all when we have local races to win. We're on a roll in the town and the county with some amazing women looking to take over.

(13,390 posts)Starting this early gives us an opportunity to do our personal vetting and selection process. I've ruled some out and am still listening to and watching several.

(2,113 posts)This event is a short distance away from where that disgusting Unite The Right rally was held. Beto is a very powerful and inspirational speaker. Anyone who has not heard him yet, this would be a great chance. I will be starting a thread with the link to the facebook live stream for anyone who wants to watch it. He always takes questions after he speaks and I suspect the questions from this event will be excellent. If you want to watch keep an eye out for the new thread or watch Beto's facebook page for the stream.
I don't normally mention these before but since this is in such a significant place I wanted to give people a heads up.
Here is a preview of the line waiting!

(612 posts)Our Primary Election in Indiana is only three weeks away. That's certainly not the reason I made up my mind a little earlier, but I'm glad I don't have to keep searching. It will be really interesting to see the outcome.
Since I'm a poll worker, at the end of the day -- when we count the votes for our polling place, which is the largest in the city -- I'll have at least some inkling of the direction the voters are going. Then I'll drag my tired old body home to the couch to watch the full returns. It's exhausting, but I LOVE election days. Well, all except for that one in November, 2016. That day proved that big boys DO cry!
Wow -- I really went off on a tangent there. I support the Undecideds. But I'm glad my decision was easy.
