... so he's surrounded by rednecks most of the time. I'm sure most of them are MAGAts too. South Bend is on the liberal side because it's a college town. I lived there many years ago when I went to school at Notre Dame & Saint Mary's. But the state - on the whole - is deep red.

When I saw him on Rachel last night, something occurred to me. Mayor Pete needs to change the spelling of his name and all his problems will be solved. He needs to become Pete Booty-Jedge!

I thought it was "booty-judge" until he explained it in the Maher interview "Boot-edge-edge".

I also laughed at the anecdote where a redcap claimed America would never vote for anyone with "Butt" in his name and was quickly reminded how enough of America voted for someone with a "Rump" in his name.

The most fun about this is to know that Trump thinks he OWNS Fox. Pete and Bernie are invading his space, and he can't control it. It drives him nuts. Which entertains the hell out of me! Just wait for his deranged Tweets. It will be sheer comedy!

I have a hard-core RW coworker. Struggles at times, but defends the most egregious shit out of the Trump Cabal because "winning" or whatever. Shes smart, just punches down instead of up. You know the type. We don't see eye to eye on about anything related to society, politics, etc...

Anywhosal, she came in Monday morning and asked me if I had heard of "this Pete guy whose running" and could I pronounce his name for her. Apparently her kiddo (liberal, mid-30s) sent her some clips over the weekend and she is intrigued.

I think anyone with the gravitas to own them in their own yard should go for it (and not all of our candidates need apply for that, IMO). Bernie did great, and I think Pete would as well. In their heart of hearts, they are mortified by Trump. We just need them to come to grips with that before Nov 3 2020.

What is happening?!

On edit - Some folks sound like sore-tailed cats. Embrace the Pete moment.

This attention is important now and beyond. Think of the gay kid who may be sitting in the living room while his dad watches Fox. He or she will never forget Pete!

The last time he was on Faux. Cool, calm and collected. And, of course, super, duper smart. I think a town hall is a great move, if for no other reason, to get in more practice addressing questions from the right.

57. Fox may try to load the audience with a more hostile, Trump loving crowd with Buttigieg.

They probably see it as a mistake with Sanders to have anyone in that audience who supported Sanders or were even slightly open minded. The "How many people would give up their employer based insurance in favor of Medicare for all" question backfired badly.

It may be a good thing if they stack the audience with Trump supporters. Then a few million regular Fox viewers would get to hear all those talking points they've been indoctrinated with fired at Buttigieg, and then they would see Buttigieg dismantle those talking points, in an unexpectedly calm, reasonable way they're not used to, and they would have a hard time disagreeing with much of what he says.

There are people who watch Fox who haven't fallen completely off the cliff yet and Buttigieg is a person who might be able to pull a few of them back away from the ledge. I think Sanders can do that as well, but Buttigieg may be even better at it.

Some people may find that distasteful, but it's an important thing to do. Or at least try to do.

the same courtesy should be extended to Mayor Pete.

Why should he be the sacrificial lamb when Bernie, a seasoned politician, was able to get off easy with his non-Fox / non-hostile audience?

Let's play fair, shalll we?

The talking points heard on Fox News and right wing radio are rarely challenged in real time by someone with Buttigieg's abilities.

If Fox tries to stack the audience with Trump supporters it may well backfire, for the reason that regular Fox viewers will be exposed to a very compelling response to those talking points they've been conditioned to believe. A little cognitive dissonance for those who aren't totally beyond reason.
