Why the Media May Be Overestimating Pete Buttigieg

Why the Media May Be Overestimating Pete Buttigieg

"SNIP.....

Harry Enten: “The problem for reporters is that even the best one’s opinions about the horserace are shaped by the environment surrounding them. This is especially the case early in primaries, because polling is far less predictive than it is in general elections. The people who surround national media reporters are right in Buttigieg’s wheelhouse.”

“Buttigieg does best among wealthier Democrats…. The national media tends to live in the wealthiest areas… Buttigieg also seems to be doing his best among white Democrats… The media can have a blind spot when a Democratic candidate has a ‘diversity’ problem.”

“In some ways, the media is dealing with the opposite problem that they did in the 2016 Republican primary. The national media were then dealing with a candidate, Donald Trump, who appealed to people who were very different than the people working in the media and who they lived among. Specifically, Trump’s support came from those without college degrees.”

In fact, this is the elephant in the room. To them, corporate-owned as they are, slaves to ratings instead of servants of truth.

IT IS NOT A HORSERACE.

I am FAR from being wealthy, and I'm FAR from being a "millennial".

This is just a stupid hit-piece disguised a political commentary. I didn't think posts like these were allowed in the Democratic Primary forum?

6. Don't we need to cover any weaknesses in the press or the campaigns?

I like Pete and I'm not afraid of criticism. Trump is the one who can never admit he is wrong. Not the press or Democratic candidates.

we should post articles that denigrate our candidates. I thought that was one of the rules of the Democratic Primary forum, but I may be mistaken. We know that the opposition reads DU and I don't know if it's a good idea to give them ammunition to tear down our prospective presidential nominee, whomever that may be.

Maybe I'm just getting a little uptight about things. Another 4 years of Trump would disintegrate every fabric of my being. I certainly don't think you're an agent provocateur, applegrove, and I'm sorry if I gave that impression Peace.

2. so why don't they go into minority areas and report on what is happening there ?

the only time they seem to go to less wealthy areas is when it comes to white areas and to make excuses for their bigotry.

Mayor Pete is more than the new shiny object-- he comes off as a genuinely decent, competent, and intelligent human being. The sort of person you would be thrilled to have as a boss, employee, family member or friend.

How far that will take him is anyone's guess, but it's something you just don't see enough of in politics. So he gets a lot of press.

And what the hell is this about the "media" having that blind spot? Seems it's obsessed with polls, studies, and whatever about demographics and the horse race.

and the love that blacks still have for Obama. This is Biden's ace in the hole that no one talks about. No other candidate, even Harris and Booker, will come close to getting the black support that Biden will have. For this reason, Biden will likely win the nomination.

Buttigieg and Sanders are fighting for the white vote mostly. They will end up cannibalizing each other, allowing Biden to win.
