"Say What You Will About Biden . . ."

Remember Biden vs Ryan. Joe obliterated him!

------

October 12, 2012

Vice President Joe Biden effectively made the case for a second Obama term, leaving Paul Ryan back on his heels, says Todd S. Purdum.

So many assessments of the vice president (including this one!) begin with that sentiment—and go on to sing his praises. His performance in the debate against Paul Ryan illustrates why.

But in a mirror image of last week’s Mile High triumph for Mitt Romney, it was Ryan who kept his head down and looked to his notes. He is no dope, and he had his moments, and held his own against Biden’s relentless attack. But Ryan needed his notes, because he was on the ropes throughout.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If Trump is on the ticket in 2020, I think 2012 Biden will clean his clock...

The question is if Biden is on the ticket in 2020, is 2012 Biden still around?

There's a reason Americans retire in their mid-60s, generally.

The presidency is not a position for septugenarians, as the current occupant has made crystal clear...

He demolished Ryan and actually point the way for Pres. Obama in how to debate the repug clowns. Remember Romney got the best of O in their first debate.

Also, Biden is the one who coined the quip about Ghouliani—"A noun, a verb and 911."

Where there were clear differences...
Kennedy vs Nixon, Clinton vs. Bush, Clinton vs. Dole, Obama vs McCaine, Obama vs Romney. Reagan was a notable exception.
I don't buy any assumptions about who anyone claims is most likely to beat Trump right now. A lot is going to depend on voters' enthusiasm which was obviously not working in our favor in 2016. Nor in 2000 or 2004 when.
Our candidates need all possible advantages and we need a candidate who excites voters who have sat out in the past.

Anger, age, and experience weren't enough to overcome a younger, more charismatic, relatively inexperienced candidate in '08
The Reagan administration and the CIA weren't exactly endearing marks for the elder Bush vs. Clinton.

The glaring modern exception to the youth advantage was. A younger, timid Carter who was not able to overcome the energy and "morning in America optimism" that Reagan was able to convey with his marginally capable acting skills. When he had incumbency on his side, former VP Mondale got stomped despite his experience, capability, and seriousness of his approach.

We have a lot of candidates who are not near the end point of the average life span. It's a reasonable consideration for candidacy for some people.

In fact Biden and Sanders are a few yrs older. The age comparison between our older candidates and Trump is more like Bush vs Kerry and Bush Vs. Gore than either of Reagan's presidential races. Bush did have considerable treachery on his side.
In most races, back to Kennedy, comparative youth has been a distinct quality among the winning candidates.

When we were in Canberra, Australia last Fall, my husband played an 18 hole round of golf with an 80 year old man from South Korea, an Aussie citizen. That 80 year old wore my husband out. The older man said he played golf 3 times per week, jogs 3 miles each day, didn't smoke, and did not look his age.

It depends on the kind of life you live, your diet, genes, etc. Joe keeps fit and active for a man his age. All that matters.

are begging Biden to run, what does that tell you? Nothing in Biden's past compares with trump. He can beat trump. He won't take trump's crap. trump does not want to run against Biden. trump needs Pennsylvania. Biden can win Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Biden has a close relationship with blue collar workers. They will support him because they know how much trump has screwed him. I would love to see Biden run with a strong progressive Dem woman (Harris?). She would then be positioned to become the first woman President! (remember we have not had a woman VP yet either)
