Bernie Sanders is 'extremely disappointed' Iowa Democratic Party hasn't released caucus results

As U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders prepared to board a plane for New Hampshire, he told the Des Moines Register that he is "extremely disappointed" that the results of Monday's Iowa caucuses have not been released.

"Obviously, I suspect I speak for all of the candidates, I am extremely disappointed by the inability of the Iowa Democratic Party to come up with the results in a timely manner. I don’t know why in 2020 it should take so much time," Sanders said in a car at the Des Moines airport tarmac.

Iowa Democratic Party officials have said they would release partial results from Monday's caucuses at 4 p.m. CST, amid critiques and confusion over the lack of any results data Monday night.

Before he left for the first-in-the-nation primary state, Sanders thanked his Iowa volunteers.

"I want to thank, once again, thousands of Iowa volunteers that we had who were part of an extraordinary grassroots movement which knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors which enabled us to do as well as we did," the Vermont senator said.

“On to New Hampshire!” he concluded.

2. From Bernie's email today...

Last night was a bad night for democracy, for the Democratic Party, and for the
people of Iowa.

But because you have done so much for this campaign, and in the interest of full
transparency as we wait for the Iowa Democratic Party to release results, we want to
share the numbers that we have at this moment:

As a result of an extraordinary grassroots campaign, fueled by thousands of
volunteers who knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, our internal results sent
to us by precinct captains around the state indicate that with close to 60% of the
vote in, we have a comfortable lead. Our numbers also show Pete Buttigieg is
currently in second, followed by Elizabeth Warren, then Amy Klobuchar and Joe Biden.

Let me reiterate that these are unofficial results, but we wanted to share them to
let you know we feel very good about where we are at right now as we head to New
Hampshire.

3. About Iowa from FiveThirtyEight

"...we estimate — based on testing how much the results in various states have historically changed the candidates’ position in national polls — that Iowa was the second most-important date on the calendar this year, trailing only Super Tuesday. It was worth the equivalent of almost 800 delegates, about 20 times its actual number."
