Trump cognitive decline increasingly difficult to conceal despite setting low bar - Alex Wagner - MSNBC

Susan Glasser, staff writer for the New Yorker, talks with Alex Wagner about the unavoidable fact of Donald Trump's mental deterioration and how Trump has managed to set the bar so low that his stumbles are often ignored, in contrast to how President Biden is scrutinized. - Aired on 06/14/2024.

Overlooking his mental incompetence has two different meanings, depending on who is doing the overlooking.

We have, alas, come to take as normal the fact that tens of millions of American voters are perfectly comfortable with an incoherent, mentally deficient president, as long as he is a Republican. Thank you, Rupert Murdoch and National Hate Radio.

With the same goal, but a completely different motivation, is a grand coalition. One half consists of corrupt businesses and banks, who are only financially viable if there are no enforced regulations or controls on them. Charter members are, for example, mines that only are profitable if they can pollute unrestricted, banks that can only survive by making loans to shaky clients if they know the government will bail them out, that sort of entity. The other half of the coalition are large countries with imperialistic goals (Russia, China, e.g.) who cannot achieve their dominance over weaker neighbors if there is a credible guarantee of American power that will inhibit their ambitions.

No matter what weak economic positions these interests may find themselves in, they can certainly cobble together, among them all, a couple of billion to funnel to the Republicans. Among them, as well, are the means to conceal the true sources of this dark money—at least for as long as it takes for them to eliminate whatever threat of legal scrutiny might loom if the Democrats win again.

But if anyone is wondering how it is possible that a theoretically diligent and competent media can be persuaded to look away from the obvious and remain silent, let‘s not fool ourselves. It is not due to incompetence. This is deliberate. It is according to the plan of those who benefit if their efforts are successful.

If Trump is asked a question and starts rambling incoherently, if I'm Biden, I'm giving up my time to let him continue.
