(6,900 posts)it is only about what Trump gets away with. If he is jailed for contempt, the sense of uncertainty pauses even the steadiest hand of the most learned governmentarians*. The RW echo chamber will continue to pretend he's being wronged by Joe Biden and the "vast left-wing conspiracy". They will do this over-playing of their hand so long as this election season remains unresolved.
So, is it good for Trump's campaign if he's sent to jail for a few days or not? He's betting it will be good. Fox is setting it up like a full court (*unintentional pun, offense, 5 yds, 3rd down) press to be the crime of the century. Strike that, Trump cannot formulate ideas and has no "plan". He's a true believer in the "all media exposure is good exposure" philosophy. He's gambling that the jail gig will allow him to con a few extra bucks from MAGA. I'm thinking MAGA will be getting a bit frustrated with their "donations" going to pay attorney fees. In that regard the removal of the "Trump in Court Show" in this summer's line-up by Eileen and the USSC-6 is the worst blow that can come of these shenanigans, because Trump, red faced, muttering and farting in the accused box, is the best campaign gift our court system can give, after all. I mean, it may not be very good at providing justice, but we still need to appreciate what it can actually do, I guess.
* New word: because I hate to keep using the term "talking heads" all the time.
* BTW: I know "full court press" and "downs" are from different games, but sports writing terms are what American media uses when there're elections afoot.
If there are asterisk laden verbiage to sort out, you can always count on us, sometimes.

(15,055 posts)The question should be "What is called for under the rule of law, and would nt doing that harm the rule of law".
Because regardless of what happens to the orange shithead, the rule of law is all we have.
It is more important than he is. Once people stop respecting it, our country will fall to pieces.
