About Me

I am retired, now a professor emeritus at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I taught in the English department for 37 years. I've written 4 chapbooks and 5 full-sized books (all listed as poetry though many include other genres as well), including _Sheer Indefinite: Selected Poems, 1991-2012 (Univ. of New Orleans Press, 2012). I've also written a 500+ page bibliography of three contemporary poets: Robert Creeley, Ed Dorn, and Robert Duncan. I am writing now, both fiction and poetry, more now than ever. My first vote for President of the United States was for Dick Gregory in 1968 (Bowling Green, Ohio). Favorite quote: "It's easy to be an idealist if you don't have to mind the evidence, but no one said it was supposed to be easy" (Richard LaPauvre).

Irony knows no holiday. . . . Please come CAPTION Judith Miller's response to James O'Keefe!!

Judith (Ol' Wooden Nickel) Miller is saying: "You and I both know what it means, James: . . . it means it's up to us to maintain the highest standards of journalistic practice. . . . Everybody else is now in the thrall of some narrative or in the bag of some special interest or crazed liberal mind-set which makes it impossible to be objective. . . . They simply have no ethics! . . . I know it's not an easy job, James, but we've got to face it: . . . It's up to us! "

Irony knows

Above CAPTION is rather closely based on the O'Keefe/Miller interview available at Crooks & Liars:

"I'm a much Latino as Charleston Heston was!" . . . Please come CAPTION Jeb Bush!!!

Jeb ("Opaque is just translucent inside out." Bush is saying: "What I meant by saying that, . . . it's really very simple, see, . . . about liberating Iraq . . . if what you mean by 'what we know now' is something indefinite, like dreams or so-called climate science, like 'what we think we know we mean,' coming up on us wavering like an old ox cart with uneven wheels, then heck no, Roberto! . . . But , if what you mean by 'what we know now' is more something more certain, almost definitely sure and barreling down the freeway like a sleek tour-bus filled with country Western stars, certain as plain geometry and God, then, ya, why not? . . . I mean 'no,' of course not! . . . I wouldn't have invaded Iraq, even if I would have. . . Like I said, it's really very simple. . . . I don't know how I can be more clear."

Above CAPTION based on the events of mid-May, 2015, during which Bust claimed that "knowing what we know today," he'd still invade Iraq, only to realize such a statement was obviously insane, then to recant, twisting in the winds of his own rhetoric, as they say, by the 16th. Here's a Huffington Post play-by-play of his dervished turmoils:

"The past just confuses things!" . . . Please come CAPTION Judith Miller!!

Judith ("I paid a bit extra and got the Premium Goldfish Lobotomy!!" Miller is saying: "Indeed, John, it is not one bit helpful to bring up the past and blame the current unrest in middle East as well as the rise of ISIS on Bush and Cheney. . . . What we should be doing to paying attention to the present. . . . What can we learn from what happened over a dozen years ago? . . . If we don't pay attention to Iran's nuclear ambitions right now, in fact, the next warning could be a mushroom cloud!"

Above CAPTION based rather closely (until the last sentence) on the following Fox clip at Crooks & Liars:

"I used to set bear traps for the tooth fairy." . . . Please come CAPTION Bill O'Reilly!!

Bill ("I don't care what I said, listen to me now!" O'Reilly is saying: "Imagine anyone taking Media Matters seriously! . . . If The New York Times wanted to hear what I had to say about the nature of the poor, they could have come to me. . . . Hell, I'll gladly stand by my words, but imagine, a web-site quoting those same words back to me! . . . How's anyone supposed to be believe that???"

Above CAPTION based on the following Media Matters story:

"My baby's pacifier? . . . A loaded .44 of course!" . . . Please come CAPTION Ted Nugent!!!!

Ted ("The safety off!" Nugent is saying: "Listen, Robert, it's all part of what I call The Big Lie when they say children are being killed in gun accidents. . . . For one thing, they're smaller targets, . . . and then because they're always moving around, . . . ."

Above CAPTION based on the following Media Matters story:

"Now Obama has at least seven more deaths on his hands!" . . . Please come CAPTION Rush Limbaugh!!!!

Rush ("I gargle with merde to sweeten my breath." Limbaugh is saying: "Listen, ladies and gentlemen, if you think that Amtrak crash outside of Philly was an accident, then you're as stupid as the Obama Regime thinks you are. . . . It's obvious to anyone paying even a tiny bit of attention that Obama got the engineer to dangerously speed and then told him not to talk so that the Regime can go before Congress and ask for more Amtrak funds for infrastructure!!! . . . It's obvious, but my critics disagree. . . . They say that's far-f3etched. . . . What's so hard to believe about that???"

Above CAPTION based on the following Limbaugh clip on Media Matters:

"I propose a memorial to rich and powerful white men!" . . . Come CAPTION Fox's Andrea Tantaros!!!

Andrea ("The repressed are always complaining. . . . Makes me sick!" Tantaros is saying: "On the contrary, Bill, I double down as they say! . . . White men, especially wealthy and powerful white men, aren't just victims now, but they always have been the largest repressed minority in his country. . . . You know how hard it is to run a plantation? . . . What a responsibility it must be to send men into battle? . . . . The difficulty of out-sourcing jobs? . . . Well, . . . do you?"

Above CAPTION Based on the following Media Matters story:

"Lie well and lie often, my daddy told me." . . . Please come CAPTION Bill O'Reilly!!!!

Bill ("Open wide!" O'Reilly is saying, "You're dead wrong, Juan, . . . Rush Limbaugh has stopped those personal attacks and has become one the most calm, temperate, and compassionate individuals of all time!!! . . . In fact, if there was a Nobel Prize for thought, Rush would win it hands down. . . . I'd stake my credibility on that!"

Above CAPTION based on the following O'Reilly Show clip on Media Matters:

"Have I got a stock for you!!!" . . . Please come CAPTION Peter Schweizer!!!!

Peter ("I have to lie at least four times before breakfast. . . . That's my personal warm-up." Schweizer is saying: "Okay, Joe, so even if more than 10% of the donations to the Clinton Foundation go to charity, even if as the statistics say, it's over 80%, I'll give you that, . . . ah . . . but then it's a clear ploy to keep the Democrats in power forever. . . . She knows that some of the beneficiaries of that aid will immigrate to the United States, . . . and you don't have to guess who they and their children are going to vote for, do you? . . . And all their descendants! . . . Not after they've been saved by the Clinton Foundation . . . . It's so obvious, I didn't even put it in my book!'

Above CAPTION is loosely based upon the following Media Matters story:

"I feel just like Rosa Parks. Oh my!" . . . Please come CAPTION Pam Geller!!!

Pam ("A couple deaths? . . . More publicity!" Geller is saying: "Sean, your question doesn't make any sense. . . Drawing pictures of Mohammad is exercising free speech, but making fun of Christ is blasphemy! . . . It's like comparing tanning salons and nail kiosks, for Gosh sake. . . . Use your head!"

Above CAPTION based on the following CNN story:
