51 years ago today

Members of the Ohio National Guard opened fire on unarmed students protesting against the violation of Cambodia's neutrality. 4 students were killed.

Never forget.

One of the things I liked best about last night's speech.

Seeing Madam Speaker and Madam Vice President on the dais behind the President. I had been looking forward to seeing that since Joe picked Kamala to be his running mate. They were styling big time.

Okay, we all. know he will appeal.

My question, should the appeal process go all the way to SCOTUS, how would Justice "Pubic Hair"Thomas rule? After all, this wasn't a "high tech lynching", it was an actual lynching, decidedly low tech. Would the Justice see that it could easily have been his own neck under the cop's knee? Or, is he so blinded by his right wing ideology that it means nothing to him?

America's longest war.

President Biden has pledged to bring the troops in Afghanistan home by Sept. 11. I applaud this decision. As a Vietnam veteran, I will rejoice to see the last American men and women come home.
That said, I must take issue with the characterization of the American involvement in Afghanistan as "America's longest war". I grant that this conflict has lasted longer than the Vietnam war, the war in Iraq and the first and second World Wars, not to mention the Mexican War, the Spanish-American War, the War of Southern Treason and the War for American Independence.
There was, however, a much longer war waged by the US Government and its predecessor, the colonial rule of Great Britain. I refer, of course, to the genocide perpetrated against the indigenous people of the Americas, which lasted from King Philip's War, through the Trail of Tears, to Sand Creek , Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee, and even into the 20th century. That was America's longest war and the nation still bears the scars.

Methinks the NRA is scared

They're advertising like crazy with tagline like, "Stop the Biden Anti Gun Agenda!"
I don't recall Biden ever saying anything anti 2nd Amendment. With all of the investigations into LaPierre's lavish spending, They seem to feel that their days are numbered, so they're desperately trying to raise money for legal defense.
I hope they go down like the Titanic.

Question about Freight trains

For the past year I have been staying with Susan. Her condo is next to a train track and freight trains roll by twice a day, one heading North and later one heading South. I enjoy watching them go by and counting the cars. The longest train I've seen go by was pulling 50 cars, the shortest pulled 13. I got to wondering whether the length of freight trains was some sort of economic indicator. It seems to me that it could be, because longer trains pulling more freight would show higher economic activity regardless of the contents of the cars. I would appreciate any of your thoughts.

Here's how I see it.

House: "Here's our wish list."
Senate: "We can't give you A, because the Parliamentarian says so. We can't give you B because our voters would not like it How does this sound?"
House: "Well, we didn't get what we asked for, but we didn't expect those stuffed shirts to give us most of what we needed. Let's vote to send to Pres."
President Biden: "All right! I have something I can sign which will help Americans survive. I wish I had more, but i"ll take what Congress can give me."

I think I know the identity of Q.

I just started asking myself, "Who benefits?'
It's not the Dotard, even though he is raising lots of money from the rubes who believe this bs. He will spend every cent on legal defense for all the civil and criminal cases which likely tie him up in court for years to come. In addition, I just don't believe he has the imagination to come up with these outlandish conspiracy theories. He is certainly willing to believe and to spread them, but that's it.
It's not his family, for the same reason.
#MoscowMitch and other leading GOPigs are all to aware of the possible consequences for them should they fail.
There is one person who clearly benefits from the chaos caused by this conspiracy, who is more than capable of creating and disseminating these insane ideas, who has the motivation to stir up trouble in the world's oldest representative democracy, and who is unlikely to face any serious consequences for this.
His name is Vladimir Putin.
