Texas campus cop empties gun on unarmed student: ‘Oh, you’re gonna shoot me?’

A campus police officer in San Antonio, Texas is under investigation after shooting and killing an unarmed student at an off-campus traffic stop.

At a press conference on Friday, Lt. Cindy Pruitt of the Alamo Heights Police Department said that an altercation occurred when University of the Incarnate Word Cpl. Chris Carter pulled over 23-year-old Robert Cameron Redus just a few blocks off campus at around 2 a.m Friday morning.

A witness who did not wish to be identified recalled to KSAT that the officer never warned Redus before shooting him.

“I didn’t hear him say anything like, ‘Get down on your hands and knees,’ you know? I didn’t hear him say anything. He just started shooting,” the witness said. “He emptied the gun on him…. Boom, boom, boom. Six shots — five or six.”

China pulls out of UN process over territorial dispute with Philippines

China is taking the highly unusual step of refusing to participate in a United Nations arbitration process over a territorial conflict with the Philippines, one of five countries challenging Beijing’s claims of ownership over the oil-rich South China Sea.

The legal dispute underscores the tough geopolitical approach China is adopting in the Pacific region. It has adopted an aggressive approach toward neighbours over a 2,000-mile stretch that also includes the East China Sea, over which it recently declared the air defence identification zone that has inflamed tensions with Japan and South Korea.

China sent its only aircraft carrier to the disputed waters off the coast of the Philippines for the first time last week, in a move Manila said raised tensions. China’s military said the carrier Liaoning will conduct drills in the area, accompanied by two destroyers and two frigates.

Dealing with the fallout over China’s territorial claims has become the dominant issue for the US vice-president, Joe Biden, who is currently touring the Asia Pacific region.

Forumsfirst.com is a forum site that at first, I didn't like. I'm not sure why exactly. I suppose at the time I was so busy with Wiredflame and PFP that I just figured this one would be an alternative to those two sites whenever I felt like using it. Well, I've grown to really enjoy ForumsFirst, because on this site, there are no deadlines! Well, technically there are, but there aren't any deadlines for YOU. Basically, you get paid 20 cents per post to either post in a forum or a blog. I find that I take blog jobs more often because it's a nice little change from posting in forums. FF will rank available jobs based on when the job's deadline is, but after you take a spot, it's up to you to post however much you want until the job expires. Cops Accused of Overkill on Sick Woman

SHERMAN, Texas (CN) - As her husband begged them to "put the gun away," Texas police repeatedly shot and Tasered a demented 67-year-old woman because she wouldn't drop a letter opener, then told the husband they had "saved his ass," the man claims.

David Seyfried sued the City of Lewisville Police Department and six of its officers in Federal Court, for his wife Dolores Seyfried.

Seyfried says he called the Dallas Alzheimer's Association hotline after "Dolores had become agitated with (him) and had a four [to] five-inch letter opener in her hand" at their home in Lewisville, a Dallas suburb.

"Letalien immediately attempted to remove David from the back yard while holding an orange shotgun in his hand," the complaint states. "David became very upset once he saw the shotgun and believed at that time that there was no need for such measures. David repeatedly pleaded with Letalien to 'put the gun away' and explained that he can calm her down and that no force would be needed.

Man is indicted on the theory that he was responsible for injuries suffered by bystanders

After New York City police shot at but missed an emotionally disturbed man who was throwing himself in front of cars near Times Square, the man is now being charged for assault of the two bystanders who cops shot instead.

According to an indictment unsealed Wednesday, 35-year-old Glenn Broadnax of Brooklyn has been charged with assault on the theory that he was responsible for the wounds suffered by two bystanders in September, the New York Times reports. After he lurched into traffic, police officers tried to contain Broadnax. He then allegedly reached into his pocket, prompting two police officers to open fire. They missed, hitting two women nearby while a police sergeant brought Broadnax down with a Taser.

Broadnax was initially arrested for menacing, drug possession and resisting arrest, but a grand jury said he “recklessly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death.” The felony assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years.
