FBI to investigate Andy Lopez shooting

Source: By BRETT WILKISON / THE PRESS DEMOCRAT

The FBI is launching its own investigation into the shooting this week of Andy Lopez, the 13-year-old Santa Rosa boy killed by a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy who mistook the BB gun Lopez was holding for an assault rifle.

FBI officials notified command staff for Sheriff Steve Freitas and Santa Rosa Police Chief Tom Schwedhelm of the move Friday.

The federal inquiry is separate from the investigation led by Santa Rosa police into the deputy-involved shooting.

“We’re going to look into the facts of that,” said Peter Lee, a public affairs specialist with the bureau. “It’s a civil rights-type of case.”

The trajectory of the bullets that riddled that little boys body are going to tell the tale. Which bullet hit him when he was standing up and the 6 others that hit him when he was already laying on the ground.

Acts of violence like this against small children were not even tolerated during combat in Vietnam

Autopsie comfirmed: 13yr old Murdered by Cop

7 shots riddled the 13yr olds little body. The 2nd eye witness testimony has been corroborated yet again.

1 shot from this 1st exchange and the Fucked up Wanna Be Rambo casuly walked over and pumped 6 more bullets into this little 13yr old boy

Fuck the "The Cop was Justified" types. Nothing on Earth justifies that behavior. Shit like that wasn't even tolerated in Nam during a Fire Fight.

Can't beleive a DUer just said he would have shot this kid

I mean really look at this poor kid's picture

Now compare his height to the 30" desk behind him - what is he 4'8" maybe ?

Now how can any cop mistake him for a "Perp" and shoot him.

Then when the kid is down on the ground walk over and shoot him again - repeatedly 6 times

Ethan Oliver says he lives across the street and came outside after he heard two gun shots.

He says by that time Lopez was already on the ground.

"Then the cops went at it again and unloaded like 6 to 7 shots,” said Oliver.

When asked if he meant that the deputy shot Lopez while he was on the ground, Oliver said, "Yeah. Exactly what I saw."

Authorities haven't responded to that statement.

Then this guy comes here and says

but that kid was a fool (and his parents are idiots, if they knew he was parading around the 'hood with that "gun&quot . We can only hope that lessons are learned from this.

If I had seen him on my property (I am minutes away from SR), I would have shot him on the spot.

I don't care what kind of sick fuck you are - nobody has the right to shoot kids

Police unload gun into 13 year old boy

Fuck anyone who can justify what thie eye witness is reporting

http://m.ktvu.com/news/news/national/dozens-march-remember-boy-killed-deputies/nbXW9/

The kid was shot because he was the wrong color in the wrong neighborhood - and don't you know all the Brown Skinned Boys are just a bunch of Gang Bangers anyway

Pukes wo side with Cops justifying this kind of shit don't deserve to be pissed on if their face was on fire

Wrong Color Skin, wrong neighborhood, 13 yr old shot and killed for toy gun

I don't give a Fuck how the cops want to try and justify killing a 13 yr old boy in a field commonly used by dozens of kids playing with airsoft guns. If they can't avoid these grievous mistakes they don't need to be cops.

We just don't need wanna-be-Rambos patrolling our streets killing our children

Calif. Sheriff's Deputies Shoot, Kill 13-Year-Old

A Northern California community is anguished over the fatal police shooting of a popular, 13-year-old boy who had been carrying a pellet gun that looked like an assault rifle.

snip

Some community members wondered whether the deputies acted appropriately when they decided to fire on such a young person.

"I'm sure you can tell he's a 13-year-old boy," Abrey Martin told KGO-TV. "He's not some maniac."

Andy, an eighth-grade student who played trumpet in his school band, was described as a bright and popular student, liked by many in his community, including Lawrence Cook Middle School assistant principal Linsey Gannon.

Budget Deficit result of "Insane Defense Spending" not SSI or Medicaid

In 2008, the most recent year for which complete global data is available, the U.S. approved $696.3 billion in defense budget authority (fiscal 2010 dollars). This figure includes funding for the Pentagon base budget, Department of Energy-administered nuclear weapons activities, and supplemental appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan.

This number is eight times more than Russia, 15 times more than Japan, 47 times more than Israel, and nearly 73 times more than Iran.

BART workers on Strike - Management kills 2 rail workers

BART workers are striking because management is trying to force work rules on them to allow untrained management to drive trains

And now you know why they are striking ....

2 BART workers killed by train in Walnut Creek

Two workers were struck and killed by a BART train Saturday afternoon near the Walnut Creek station, despite a strike that has idled passenger service since Friday.

The two workers, a transit district employee and a contractor whose names weren't immediately released, died at the scene after they were hit by an eastbound four-car train at about 1:40 p.m. on the elevated tracks near Jones Road and Pimlico Drive, north of the Walnut Creek BART station.

<snip>

Safety during train operations has been a point of contention between BART and its unions, especially when it was suggested that the transit agency was training management workers so that they could be certified to run passenger trains if the strike lingered on.

While BART said a number of managers, most of them former train operators, already were licensed to run the trains for needed maintenance and repair work, the unions said those operators did not have the current experience needed for safe passenger runs.

and of course BART management is trying to cover this up. Refuses to discuss who was driving the train and keeps using the talking point the "Train was in Automatic Mode"

Taped Radio conversations indicates the dispatcher and management failed to comply with Safety Protocal

A review of BART radio communications indicate a male train operator, who sources say was an operator supervisor who regularly drove trains some two decades ago, reported a "BART emergency" to central operations, noting that the train had just struck "some individuals" and advising that they "may be BART employees."

A technician on the train is asked to check for bodies and he reports the first one on the trackway. A "second victim" is then reported 50 yards away on Track C-1.

The male train operator reports that "both are deceased and definitely BART employees."

On another recording, a woman can be heard announcing that "There are no personnel wayside (adjacent to the tracks)."

Within five seconds, a second voice can be heard contradicting that report: "Attention all personnel: We do have personnel wayside between C-40 and C-50 on the C1 and C2 tracks."

Central BART communication officers are among the workers currently on strike. It was unclear who was operating the dispatch center while trains were moving.

We ALL paid into Social Security with the Full Faith and Trust of the US Government

And Congress has repeatedly dipped into the Social Security Cookie Jar so they could "Spend like a Drunken Sailor" while offering "Tax Cuts to the Wealthy" and Corporate Tax Loops Holes" large enough to sink the American Middle Class

Now watch as Dems and RATpubliCONs alike try to weasel out of their commitment to REPAY the money they borrowed from the OUR fund

In the Real World of Work and Wages, Trickle-Down Theories Don’t Hold Up

In the Real World of Work and Wages, Trickle-Down Theories Don’t Hold Up

If economic theory is unkind to trickle-down proponents, the lessons of experience are downright brutal. If lower real wages induce people to work shorter hours, then the opposite should be true when real wages increase. According to trickle-down theory, then, the cumulative effect of the last century’s sharp rise in real wages should have been a significant increase in hours worked. In fact, however, the workweek is much shorter now than in 1900.

Trickle-down theory also predicts shorter workweeks in countries with lower real after-tax pay rates. Yet here, too, the numbers tell a different story. For example, even though chief executives in Japan earn less than one-fifth what their American counterparts do and face substantially higher marginal tax rates, Japanese executives do not log shorter hours.

Trickle-down theory also predicts a positive correlation between inequality and economic growth, the idea being that income disparities strengthen motivation to get ahead. Yet when researchers track the data within individual countries over time, they find a negative correlation. In the decades immediately after World War II, for example, income inequality was low by historical standards, yet growth rates in most industrial countries were extremely high. In contrast, growth rates have been only about half as large in the years since 1973, a period in which inequality has been steadily rising.

The same pattern has been observed in cross-national data. For example, using data from the World Bank and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development for a sample of 65 industrial nations, the economists Alberto Alesina and Dani Rodrick found lower growth rates in countries where higher shares of national income went to the top 5 percent and the top 20 percent of earners. In contrast, larger shares for poor and middle-income groups were associated with higher growth rates. Again and again, the observed pattern is the opposite of the one predicted by trickle-down theory.
