Exactly!

Bush had 6 years where him and the Republicans virtually ran wild in Washington DC and Obama and the Democrats had 2 years to do what they wanted to do- and we're supposed to mercilessly criticize him for not being able to clean up everything in that time?

February 9, 2014

This is about Republicans being hypocrites and not wanting to pass ANYTHING

No matter how much Bush was incompetent, lied, and acted beyond his constitutional authority, Republicans in Congress just kept right on passing laws for him to enforce, which he supposedly did- though only to the extent that his signing statements said that they didn't interfere with his authority as "commander-in-chief".

Of all the things about Benghazi

What Obama called it afterwards is what really matters the most?

February 6, 2014

Republicans and Democrats passed laws just fine under Bush

even though Bush attached those "signing statements" to the laws stating that he could pretty much ignore them whenever he felt they intruded too much on his authority.

Thought that they liked "FREEDOM"!

not to mention that it might make it so that people can spend more time with their families too. That's important to them too, right? "Family values"?

Americans are "cringing" that she hasn't driven since 1996?

Who wrote that line? Newt Gingrich???

February 5, 2014

The misinformation campaign is already pretty widespread

Joshua Micah Marshall (TPM) has been busy debunking the GOP spin on this all day
*sigh*

I don't agree with everything Obama says or does

but I believe that you can be critical of somebody and their ideas- some of which are never all that likely to become law anyway- without treating them like, I don't know, an "enemy" on par with the other side. Republicans hate President Obama (any Democrat, really) and have launched a total (political) war of annihilation against him and when you are dealing with an opposition like that, it's not hard to want to "circle the wagons" and defend our Democratic President from them, even if sometimes it seems like you're defending questionable policy ideas too- because you don't want to give the other side any more ammunition. I suppose that it's probably not a good habit to get caught up in but OTOH it's been so hard to get and keep Democrats in the WH and Congress during the past 30 years, so it's really hard for me to want to spend a bunch of time carping from the sidelines about all of their shortcomings (and occasional bad ideas) when they do hold the WH and/or Congress. I would prefer to focus more on the positive things they are trying to accomplish.

To which I respond by saying:

Who established the precedent of "indefinite detention" of terror suspects, Gitmo, and, most chillingly, "Enhanced Interrogation" (AKA Torture). Did Ryan and other Republicans rant about and struggle against Bush/Cheney's "lawless (p)residency" and how their policies actually harmed (and in some cases KILLED) people? Case closed. If Ryan, et. al are so disturbed by President Obama using Executive Orders (of which he has issued fewer than all recent Presidents), then maybe that's their cue to start getting busy and doing some work done instead of sitting around on news shows carping about him circumventing them (legally) because of their obstructionism pact that they all (Ryan included) entered into on Day 1 of his Presidency- and I don't mean continuing to send the Senate a bunch of poison-laden bills that the Senate, let alone President Obama isn't going to give a single thought to but I mean to start figuring out what needs to be done and working with the President and Democrats to get them done on a genuinely bipartisan basis. Methinks that Ryan, et. al are really upset that their obstructionism strategy is backfiring on them and that they won't be able to stop President Obama from occasionally being able to do something positive for the rest of us by circumventing them (legally) via Executive Orders. Personally, I'd rather see President Obama doing more with Congress to get stuff passed but it's clear that he doesn't have a Congress to work with at the moment, so I'm willing to let him do what he can to get at least a few things done until Ryan, et. al get off their butts and work to earn their overly generous paychecks and bennies.

Is it just me

or has the MSM given a big megaphone and lots of publicity to Republican losers since 2008? I don't EVER remember any losing Democratic candidates being given as much publicity in recent years. AFAIK no media outlet talked much to or about Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, or Kerry much after their losing campaigns let alone give them or their wives a huge platform to complain about how they were wronged by losing and sowing bitter grapes. The MSM nowadays can't get enough of McCain, Palin (a VP nominee), Romney, and we pretty much only hear from or about them and most of the Republican leadership week after week after week............It's like their whole idea of "balance" is to give the Republicans almost all of the publicity since a Democrat is in the WH and has his/her own platform.
