Mad_Machine76's JournalI can't speak for Sanders supporters
As a Clinton supporter and, I guess, part of the "establishment", I accept the general structure of the country and its institutions but support measures that push us in a more progressive direction. However, I understand and accept the fact that change in this country (or in any large system) generally happens incrementally and that it is unrealistic IMHO to expect the kind of changes advocated by Bernie Sanders or his ilk to be adopted wholesale in a rapid manner, something that is especially difficult when we can't get and keep progressive politicians elected to Congress and the WH and have to keep dealing with Republican obstructionism and attempts to roll back the gains we make after every 8 years in the WH. Democrats can't even seem to get a Congressional Majority for more than 2 years whenever we DO win the Presidency and then they have to spend the rest of their time in office watering down their proposals to get Republicans to pass anything and/or rely on easily reversible Executive actions to move our agenda forward.
Does it not seem weird to anybody else
that the Green Party always seems to make the biggest push for the Presidency after 8 years of Democrats in the WH? It's now happened twice in recent history that the Greens adversely affected a Presidential election and tilted it towards the Republicans, once following Bill Clinton and now again following Barack Obama. It can't be a coincidence, can it? And both times out there with pretty much the same messaging: Democrats aren't any better than the Republicans, can't be trusted any more than Republicans, no voting for "lesser of two evils", electing an awful Republican will lead to a massive progressive revolution, etc. I'm not particularly big on conspiracy theories but it seems like the Greens exist for little more reason than to serve as spoilers, throwing elections to the Republicans, either intentionally or unintentionally. Stein's attendance at a dinner gala with Putin in 2015 makes her involvement in last year's race for the WH even more fishy IMHO. Democrats never seem to be able to win a third consecutive term for POTUS and, while there are certainly some Republican factors to blame, it just seems weird that Republicans haven't been able to make a Democratic President a one-term President since Jimmy Carter but they're able to win right after a two-term Democratic President and the last two instances have been under highly suspicious circumstances to boot. And the Greens have been right there as well. I just wonder...........Is it just me?
"But I didn't know........"
"I didn't know he was going to take away MY healthcare!"
"I didn't know he was going to deport MY husband!"
Notice how loudly Republicans cry and moan whenever Republican policies affect THEM. They are reaping what they've sown. I feel sorry for them but, unlike them, I feel sorry for EVERYBODY who stands to lose under Trump/GOP
Good point
If your memory is THAT faulty, you should probably not be serving as AGOTUS. Who knows what you might not remember? Could be something important that could be country-threatening.
McCain has never really mattered IMHO
He has been one of the biggest political "teases" in Congress for as long as I can remember. Why he gets so much attention is beyond me.
IKR
I was so glad that he didn't run for Governor again and thought him running w/Trump would finish him off. Wrong. So wrong.
As a sidebar, I hope that the scourge of GOP governors ends soon......
Can't watch the video right now
but opposition to President Obama was good enough for Republican voters. Why wouldn't it be enough for Democratic voters. People are energized against him. Democrats would be foolish not to capitalize on it. Besides, we already have a good solid platform and plenty of policy ideas all ready to go should we be able to control Congress, though not much will be accomplished if we do until we also control the WH but at least we could ensure that the Republicans can't continue to push their regressive agenda through to Trump's desk. Besides, at least for the short-term, we're needed moreso as a "check" on the Trump (mis-)Administration until we can vote him and the rest of his goons out of office in 2020.
McConnell sending draft Trumpcare Bill to CBO?
Topher Spiro tweeted this morning that McConnell may be sending a draft Trumpcare bill to CBO sometime this week. Sorry that I can't provide a link at this time but if you're on Twitter, Spiro has been tweeting about this all morning. I don't know what his credibility is like, but thought that I'd mention it just in case this is real.
If true, looks like McConnell is aiming to try to ram *something* through the Senate, which will no doubt make American Healthcare Suck Again.
Ivanka Trump's Influence?
Where did this silly notion that we should all feel safe and warm knowing that Ivanka Trump has her father's ear ever get started? And where is the proof that he *even* listens to her???? And what do we even know about her politics to begin with??? Is she a registered Democrat???
