Report: Ukrainian synagogue firebombed in Black Sea city

Son of Nikolayev’s chief rabbi says two Molotov cocktails were thrown at synagogue empty of worshipers in the early hours of Saturday.

The main synagogue in the Ukrainian city of Nikolayev reportedly was firebombed.

The synagogue was empty of worshipers when it was firebombed early Saturday morning, according to the Chabad-affiliated Shturem.org website.

Two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the door and window, the report said, citing Yisroel Gotlieb, son of the city’s chief rabbi, Sholom Gotlieb.

A passer-by put out the fires with a fire extinguisher, according to the report.

Anti-Semitism in Kansas, Ukraine proves hatred alive and well

As shocking as it may seem, the devastation and horror of World War II ended nearly 70 years ago. The world has changed considerably in the decades that followed, but recent events remind us just how fresh some of the wounds of that era remain. A deranged man went into a Jewish Community Center near Kansas City with the intent of killing Jews just prior to the start of Passover. He opened fire, killing three people — none happened to be Jewish — before shouting “Heil Hitler” after police had him in custody.

Aside from the terrifying reminder that white supremacists continue to target Jews in our own country, many saw news last week that sounded all too familiar. Pamphlets were distributed in eastern Ukraine ordering all Jewish people to register with the government or face losing their citizenship. Many called into question the origin of the pamphlets, and as of this writing, no one is exactly sure who is responsible. One thing is sure: Nearly 70 years after six million Jewish people met their end at the hands of Hitler and the Nazis, anti-Semitism is alive and well.

After the Holocaust, Jewish people defiantly said, “Never again,” but here we are: Almost 15 years into the 21st century, we’re still dealing with anti-Semitism on the front page of the newspaper.

Regardless of the origin of the pamphlets — many do not believe they came from a government entity — we should not ignore the fact that Jewish people remain targets of hatred throughout the world, and no matter what tragedy strikes, there are some who will not stop until they eradicate the world of Jewish people.

What we need to realize is that even in our interconnected world, some human beings still want to do horrible things to others, and even in our interconnected world, many of us ignore the signs. We can brush off the pamphlets in Ukraine as nothing more than a small group trying to push the tension there beyond the breaking point, but we have a responsibility to acknowledge that racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of hatred exist.

Anti-Semitic keyboard warrior becomes real-life terrorist

OCALA, Fla., April 16, 2014 — Over the weekend, a 73-year-old man armed himself and set out to kill Jews. He targeted a Jewish community center and retirement home in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park.

The result was three dead Christians. One, Reat Griffin, was a 14-year-old high school freshman; he died alongside his grandfather, Dr. William Corporon. The third was a middle-aged woman who had been visiting her mother. The victims were essentially passers-by. Their lives ended all the same.

As the killer was being carried away from the scene, he cried out his support of Adolf Hitler. For years, he had been active on Vanguard News Network. Anyone with the stomach to look at his activities there might understand why this elderly Nazi became a killer.

VNN is a discussion forum which might make Stormfront regulars blush. The ringleader is Alex Linder, one of America’s foremost neo-Nazi activists. Linder has built a detailed profile as an anti-Semitic rhetorician bar none.

---snip---

The keyboard warriors of today may move past their computers tomorrow. While such a thing cannot be prevented in all cases, surely solutions can be found to prevent an untold number from destroying the lives of others, along with their own.

"The Jews are our main and most formidable enemies."

Anti-Semitism: The oldest hatred, forever young

Most of the hate crimes in the United States don’t take the fatal form that the shootings in Kansas over the weekend did, and most aren’t perpetrated by villains as bloated with rage and blinded by conspiracy theories as the person accused in this case, Frazier Glenn Miller. He’s an extreme, not an emblem.

This is someone who went on Howard Stern’s radio show four years ago (why, Howard, did you even hand him that megaphone?) and called Adolf Hitler “the greatest man who ever walked the earth.” When Stern asked Miller whether he had more intense antipathy for Jews or for blacks (why that question?), Miller chose the Jews, definitely the Jews, “a thousand times more,” he said.

“Compared to our Jewish problem, all other problems are mere distractions,” he declaimed, and he apparently wasn’t just spouting off. He was gearing up.

On Sunday, according to the police, he drove to a Jewish community center in Overland Park, Kan., and opened fire, then moved on to a nearby Jewish retirement home and did the same. Three people were killed.

They were Christian, as it happens. When hatred is loosed, we’re all in the crossfire.

Hate Crimes May Be Down, But Anti-Semitism Is Still Malignant

Experts say Sunday’s shooting spree that left three dead is a reminder that anti-Jewish hate lives on in the U.S.

The killings of three people near Jewish Community Centers in Kansas City on April 13 were senseless, but investigators have gathered the alleged shooter’s intention was clear. The Southern Poverty Law Center said that suspect Frazier Glenn Miller, who went by the alias Frazier Glenn Cross when he was arrested, was a former grand dragon in the Ku Klux Klan and “raging anti-Semite” who spent the past several decades advocating for the extermination of Jews.

Miller spewed hate in over 12,000 posts on the anti-Semitic, white supremacist website the Vanguard News Network, using slurs to refer to Jews and blacks and calling the U.S. federal government the JOG, or the Jewish Occupied Government.

Thankfully, America is not teeming with Frazier Glenn Millers. Hate crime overall is declining in the U.S., according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations. In 2012, law enforcement agencies reported 5,796 total hate crime incidents, accounting for 6,718 offenses, down from 6,222 incidents of hate crime and 7,354 offenses in 2011.

But despite that downturn, anti-Semitic sentiments still make up the bulk of religious-bias crimes in the U.S. Nearly 60% of the 1,166 anti-religious hate crimes reported to the FBI in 2012 were anti-Jewish. Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center and editor of their journal the Intelligence Report, says Miller’s April 13 shooting spree is a reminder of a minor but notable undercurrent of anti-Semitism in American society.

Obama remembers Kansas shooting victims

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Monday honored those killed in a weekend attack at two Jewish facilities in Kansas, saying no one should have to worry about their security while gathering with their fellow believers.

Obama noted that synagogues and temples across the country are taking extra security precautions following the shooting, adding: “No one should ever have to fear for their safety when they go to pray.”

The president spoke during an Easter prayer breakfast at the White House and vowed that the government would provide whatever is needed to support the investigation. He urged Americans to stand united against “religious-based” violence.

“As Americans, we not only need to open our hearts to the families of the victims, we’ve got to stand united against this kind of terrible violence, which has no place in our society,” Obama said. “We have to keep coming together, across faiths to combat the ignorance and the intolerance, including anti-Semitism that can lead to hate groups and violence because we are all children of God.”

Three people were killed Sunday when a gunman opened fire on a Jewish community center and Jewish retirement complex near Kansas City. The man accused in the shooting is a well-known white supremacist and former Ku Klux Klan leader who was once the subject of a nationwide manhunt. Officials were investigating the attack as a hate crime, although two of the victims, a man and his grandson, were not Jewish and were at the community center for a singing competition, relatives said.

Longtime Anti-Semite, Arrested in Kansas Jewish Community Center Murders

Frazier Glenn Miller, 73, of Aurora, Mo., was arrested today for the murder of three people at two separate Jewish Community Centers in Overland Park, Kan. Miller, who was arrested using the alias Frazier Glenn Cross, has been in the movement nearly his entire life. Miller is the former “grand dragon” of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which he founded and ran in the 1980s before being sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for operating an illegal paramilitary organization and using intimidation tactics against African Americans.

--snip--

Miller is a raging anti-Semite who has posted more than 12,000 times on Vanguard News Network (VNN), whose slogan is “No Jews, Just Right.” VNN founder Alex Linder has openly advocated “exterminating” Jews since December 2009. Miller, a close partner to Linder, has called Jews “swarthy, hairy, bow-legged, beady-eyed, parasitic midgets.” Miller is also one of VNN’s largest donors and he printed and distributed thousands of copies of VNN’s newsletter, The Aryan Alternative.

---snip---

Our research shows that racist killers are hiding among us in plain sight. A forthcoming two-year study by the SPLC will show that nearly 100 people in the last five years have been murdered by active users on another prominent racist website, Stormfront.org.

Bomb team brought in over suspect parcel for Alan Shatter (Irish Justice Minister)

Source: Irish Independent

A GARDA station was evacuated for several hours after an army bomb disposal team was called to examine a suspicious package addressed to Justice Minister Alan Shatter.

It was the second suspicious parcel to have been posted to the minister in the past week.

Both were found to contain harmless substances and photographs of Nazi troops in the 1930s.

--snip--

The parcel was similar to last week's package, which contained baking powder and a picture of a Nazi rally in the Polish city of Gdansk with images of five swastikas.

Yesterday's package also included a photograph of Nazi troops but the exact nature of the powder could not be immediately determined.

Other anti-Semitic material has been sent in the past to the Department of Justice and videos and photographs were also posted online.

UK Muslim hotline invites gay, Jewish patrons (x-post LGBT group)

The founder of a UK-based hotline that helps fight Islamophobia is recruiting senior figures from the gay and Jewish communities to send out a message against all forms of intolerance, a local newspaper reported Sunday.

The Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) helpline, whose aim is to help victims and measure the level of anti-Muslim attacks in Britain, has invited the famous gay activist Peter Tatchell to become its patron, the Sunday Express reported.

The daily also revealed that Tell MAMA’s founder, Fiyaz Mughal, will make yet another controversial announcement next week when he officially recruits Richard Benson, a former president of the Community Security Trust (CST), a Jewish organization that battles anti-Semitism, to be the group’s joint chairman.

Mughal, who started the group in 2012, said that by linking up with key figures from these two communities, a message of tolerance will be proliferated.

“We’re clear. If you are homophobic or anti-Semitic, you can’t campaign against anti-Muslim prejudice,” he told the Sunday Express.
