liberal N proud's JournalOhio bill would rais speed limits and outlaw Left Lane Squatters
Not passing? Get out of left lane, bill says
Look out, left-lane lollygaggers: Life in the fast lane might get a little less comfortable.
A new bill in the Ohio House proposing to increase the speed limit on interstate highways to 70 also would make staying in the left lane generally illegal unless drivers are exiting or passing slower vehicles.
House Bill 395 will have its first hearing on Tuesday.
Current Ohio law requires drivers to use the right or center lanes, with a number of exceptions. The proposed legislation essentially would limit the leeway of left-lane users to mosey down the interstates.
Accordingly, motorists would not be permitted to travel in the left-hand lane except when exiting, passing or allowing other vehicles to enter the right lane, or when existing road conditions would make driving a vehicle in the right lane unsafe.
About time someone kicks the squatters in the ass.
Iconic skier's death points out U.S. health gap
Since the death of Canadian skier Sarah Burke in January, fans and supporters from around the world have donated over $300,000 more than enough to cover the massive U.S. medical bill generated by efforts to save her.
The outpouring of grief for Burke and the influx of funds are a tribute to a young woman who was a pioneer and legend in her sport. The need for a fundraiser to help her grieving family avert bankruptcy was viewed by some Canadians and U.S. observers as a condemnation of the U.S. health care system.
"The irony is that had the accident occurred in Canada
her care would have been covered because, unlike the U.S., Canada has a system of universal coverage," wrote Wendell Potter, an insurance executive-turned-whistleblower who writes for iWatch at the Center for Public Integrity. "No one in Canada finds themselves in that predicament, nor do they face losing their homes as many Americans do when they become critically ill or suffer an injury..."

Burke, who died at 29, was on skis by age five, and pursuing a professional skiing career before she left high school. She pioneered womens halfpipe skiing and was instrumental in getting the event included in the X-Games, according to a profile in Sportsnet magazine of Canada.

Santorum: Obama wants Americans to go to college to become indoctrinated
With all the news being focused on Newt and Mittens, he had to say something bold to get his name back in the news:
"It's no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go college," Santorum said Wednesday in Florida, according to CBS News. "The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination. If it was the other way around, the ACLU would be out there making sure there wasn't one penny of government dollars going to colleges and universities, right?"
Santorum's comments continue down a route of attack on Obama he's taken in the past, accusing the president of saying every American has to go to college.

ANOTHER BU$H?
IS AMERICA REALLY THAT STUPID?
How conservatives lie about government
From Social Security hysteria to "Obamacare" madness, right-wing propaganda is increasingly divorced from reality
How can otherwise sane people believe such lunacy? The answer is that members of the right-wing counterculture are brainwashed that is the only appropriate term by the apocalyptic propaganda ground out constantly by the conservative media establishment. A perfect example is a recent essay by Philip Klein, a senior editorial writer of the Washington Examiner, the right-wing newspaper owned by the billionaire Philip Anshutz: The Welfare State Is Destroying America.
As if to concede that there is no Social Security crisis in the near future, Klein engages in three intellectually dishonest maneuvers typical of right-wing propagandists. First, he talks about medium-term and long-term problems as though they were present-day emergencies. Second, he blurs the distinction between Social Securitys long-term fiscal challenges, which are minor, and those caused by rising healthcare costs, in order to make Social Security seem worse off than it is in reality. Third, he implies that the growing debt burden of the United States is primarily caused by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, ignoring tax cuts, wars and the effects of a near-depression:
With health care costs rising and the population aging, Americas welfare-state obligations are bringing the country to its financial knees. If left unchecked, the growing debt burden will not only trigger runaway inflation and stifling taxes, but it will also threaten national security.
