A quote

"I have told this to few people, gentlemen, and I suspect never will again. One day when I was a young boy on holiday in Uberwald, I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I'm sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged onto a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split, and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature's wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that's when I first learned about evil. It is built into the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

- Lord Havelock Vetinari, from Terry Pratchett's 'Unseen Academicals.'

I am so sorry!

I share your pain, Demsrule86.

We had to have our 5yo precious yellow Lab put down just 9wks ago yesterday and I'm still crying every day. She was the sweetest baby girl; even our neighbors complimented how sweet she was to their dogs.

We got her as a rescue puppy. And just about 5 mos ago i told her foster mom, DUer MimiMe: "See that moon up there? Missy put it there."

We had no idea our baby was suffering with a severe congenital heart valve problem then. It only manifested severe debilitating symptoms a week before we had to stop her suffering.

Missy was our definition of love; she was by our sides constantly, & giving us her paw & kisses when we were troubled because she sensed our every pain & grief.

I know that's how you feel about your sweet Benjy. Some dogs just give us so much love & joy that life is not the same without them.

But the sharp pain you're feeling will eventually subside a bit. I think it helps share & know others totally understand. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed - love is love is love, no matter its source. And we know, some dogs are much more humane than many (most?) people.

Btw, I'm an atheist but it's comforting to me to think our Missy is now a spirit. I hope your sweet Benjy and our Missy gets to meet over the 🌈 Bridge.

WOW!!

K&R

"...predating the arrival of Columbus by a few decades."

History is constantly being rewritten and underscores the question: "Again, why do we celebrate Columbus Day?"
Besides, it's an insult to the indigenous people living on the North American continent* for many centuries.

*And South America for that matter.

How to prevent another tRump?

1. Bring back the Fairness Doctrine to public reporting.

2. Require candidates for office to undergo a background investigation...

Crying every day here

...for the last 8 weeks.
Our sweetest ever Yellow Lab was suffering with a previously undetected congenital heart value problem & was in so much pain that we had to put her down just 8 wks ago. I held her head as she passed away.

She was *only 5*! And was so very kind to everyone & every critter she ever met- there wasn't an oz of aggression in her sweet sweet soul.
She even tolerated my pet wild squirrel coming into the house.

2 days after her death, my husband's mind created an apparition of her - superstitious folks would say he saw her ghost & it'd be wonderful to think it was.

So, yes, this pic deeply touched my heart.

What was your dear Shepherd girl's name?

Yes, my hubby was there in '93

I traveled back with him in 2010 & he couldn't believe how Shanghai had changed.

I'd never seen a city like it - larger than LA, with skyscrapers as found in NYC, and lit up like Vegas.

Beijing was more traditional... and smoggy. We still saw a lot of poverty in between but that country is clawing its way to the top very quickly...by hook or crook. International patents don't mean poop to them. And they'll try to bride anyone they can!

And then there's their space programs...

They try hard, work very hard, steal & copy what they can, but they don't have the innate creativity & innovation we have.

I regret having to agree with you.

Toured China for 6wks in 2010 and couldn't close my mouth.

And TRump just helped them.
