Melania rips report she didn't want to be first lady

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/361954-melania-trump-rips-report-she-didnt-want-to-be-first-lady

First lady Melania Trump on Monday ripped a report in which a longtime friend told Vanity Fair that she didn’t want to be the first lady “come hell or high water.”

“Once again part of the liberal media, this time Vanity Fair, has written a story riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions. As a magazine tailored to women it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs. Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as First Lady as a supportive wife and mother,” a spokeswoman for Trump said in a statement to CNN.

“As has been stated on the record many times before, she is honored by her role,” the spokeswoman added.

In a Vanity Fair report published Sunday, the unnamed friend told the magazine that being first lady isn’t something Melania wanted and isn’t something that she expected to happen.

Doughnuts, dueling memos factor in showdown over U.S. consumer agency (CFPB)

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-cfpb-memo/doughnuts-dueling-memos-factor-in-showdown-over-u-s-consumer-agency-idUSKBN1DR1UD

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With doughnuts in hand, President Donald Trump’s appointee to head the U.S. government consumer watchdog agency turned up for work on Monday, challenging the acting appointee of the outgoing Obama-era head in an unprecedented partisan showdown over how the U.S. financial system should be regulated.

Mick Mulvaney, who already serves as White House budget chief, was named acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) by Trump last week. But Mulvaney, who tried to dismantle the agency when he served in the U.S. House of Representatives, faces a challenge from Leandra English, who was named temporary head of the agency by outgoing director Richard Cordray hours beforehand.

Both issued statements on Monday morning indicating they were in charge.

English sent an email in which she welcomed staff back from the Thanksgiving holiday and signed off as “acting director,” according to a source.

This is just nuts. I really hope we can kick Trump's ass in this situation.

Alaskan Hiker Walks Backwards to Keep an Eye on the Mama Bear and Cubs Following Him

https://laughingsquid.com/hiker-walks-backwards-keep-eye-on-bear-and-cubs/

While walking along a picturesque trail in Katmai National Park in southern Alaska, an alert and rather concerned hiker named Geoffrey Glassner noticed that a big grizzly bear with her two cubs at her side started follow him. Keeping his wits about him, the hiker wisely turned around and began walking backwards so as to keep an eye on their progress. Luckily, the bears didn’t get too close to Glassner, although he did express a bit of frustration in the time it took them to part ways at the water’s edge.

I’m walking backwards on the trail back to the camp. I’m walking on the trail with mom and two Cubs so I am continuing to walk backwards the mom and the Cubs keep following me and are walking at least as fast as I am. …What I don’t want to do is as I’m walking backwards is stumble, so I will keep walking backwards …come on guys give me a break. Cubs just keep coming. Oh come on.

Just two days after that incident, Glassner was able to shoo a different bear from his path.

Orlando-based startup can install your X-mas tree

http://bungalower.com/2017/11/22/orlando-based-startup-can-install-x-mas-tree

UCF grad student Jerry Jasmin knows how hard it is to get a Christmas tree in your Downtown condo. He knows the pain of negotiating an Uber-delivered spruce through a lobby and up 10 floors in an elevator and then trying to find the perfect spot in your condo to precariously lean your holiday centerpiece. He’s done it himself.

So, with years of customer service skills acquired from working at the Ritz, Jasmin launched a service to help you with that. Because it’s 2017 and there’s an app for that, is our new mantra.

Tree Drop (Facebook | Website) is an Orlando-based service that will deliver and install trees in your home for you. Designed for Downtown living, the new business serves the entire Orlando Metro area and doesn’t necessarily discriminate based on the height of your home.

All you do is enter your zip code, choose the size of the tree you want, and schedule your delivery. For an added fee, Tree Drop will also take down and remove your tree at the end of the holidays.

Dozens accuse massage therapists at large franchise of sexual misconduct

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/report-dozens-accuse-massage-therapists-large-franchise-sexual-misconduct-n824056

Dozens of people have accused massage therapists of sexual misconduct at the largest massage franchise in the United States, a report published Sunday in BuzzFeed alleged.

Citing lawsuits, police reports and other official documents, the news site said the company, Massage Envy, and its franchisees had mishandled or ignored many of more than 180 cases.

NBC News has not confirmed all of the allegations.

In a statement Sunday, Massage Envy — which has more than 1,100 franchises in 49 states, according to the company's website — said the incidents described in the report were "heartbreaking for us and for the franchisees that operate Massage Envy locations."

What Floridas living wage amendment will look like

https://www.politico.com/states/florida/story/2017/11/16/what-floridas-living-wage-amendment-will-look-like-115719

TALLAHASSEE — With just 38 words, Florida Democratic donor and medical marijuana godfather John Morgan wants voters to jack up the state’s minimum wage eventually to $15 hourly under a draft of the constitutional amendment he’s proposing.

“We’re going to get this on the ballot and it’s going to pass because people know that the minimum wage is not a living wage,” said Morgan, a wealthy trial lawyer from the Orlando area.

Florida’s current minimum wage of $8.25 is higher than the nation’s thanks to a 2004 state constitutional amendment that boosted earnings after it was approved by 71.3 percent of voters — the exact number that coincidentally approved last year’s medical marijuana initiative that Morgan bankrolled. It takes 60 percent of voters to approve a constitutional amendment.

Here’s how the new proposal is worded: “Effective September, 30 2021, the existing state Minimum Wage shall increase to $10.00 per hour, and then increase each September 30 after that by $1.00 per hour until the minimum wage reaches $15.00 per hour on September 30, 2026.”

Dinesh D'Souza peddles the old RW lie that Nazism is left-wing....

https://twitter.com/DineshDSouza/status/912056100744302594

Sir, once the "leftist arm" of the NSDAP was assassinated on the orders of Hitler in 1934, it failed to have any connection whatsoever with the left. It never really did. Hitler was a master of propaganda, and named the party that to draw in the left.
