Obama gets 'Ice Bucket Challenge' from Kennedy family ****BOG Post****

http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2014/08/11/obama-kennedy-ice-bucket-challenge/13902131/

The Kennedy family is welcoming President Obama to Martha's Vineyard with a "cold" invitation.

Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, is urging Obama to take the "Ice Bucket Challenge," in which people dump buckets of ice water on each other to raise money for ALS research.

In a message posted on social media by members of the family, Mrs. Kennedy said: "Welcome to Cape Cod, President Obama. I nominate you."

Mrs. Kennedy told The Boston Globe: "A good campaign starts at the grassroots and makes its way to the very top. Our family is proud to join the wave of advocates championing increased awareness and funding for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)."

In 2015, it won’t matter if hackers steal your password

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/in-2015-it-wont-matter-if-hackers-steal-your-password-2014-08-08

The password could be dead by 2015.

That’s the prediction (and hope) among security experts who are racing to replace the is-it-really-you test, which dates to the early 1960s. Since then, passwords have become an omnipresent nuisance for both users and security officers—perpetually forgotten and inevitably stolen, as evidenced this week by the news that a Russian gang has amassed a trove of more than one billion login credentials. (Read: More than a billion online accounts breached by Russian gang.)

Two out of every three data breaches involve the exploitation of weak or stolen passwords, according to Verizon’s 2014 Data Breach Investigations Report. And making them stronger isn’t much help.

The more requirements websites add for passwords—to reach a minimum number of characters using uppercases, lowercases, and special characters, to avoid strings similar to previous passwords, to do a handstand while typing it in—the more likely people are to reuse passwords across accounts or create weak ones, researchers say. A 2012 study found that almost one-third of people have more than 10 unique passwords, and 38% of people would rather scrub toilets than try to come up with new ones.

OK County GOP Learns That KKK 'Discussions' Not Welcome

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/10/ok-county-gop-learns-that-kkk-discussions-not-welcome.html

The Garvin GOP distributed a flyer for the "GOP Bean Feed," featuring on its upper left-hand corner a tiny, dancing bean wearing a sombrero.

The flyer promised that for just $20.00 (or free, if you're under 12) you could enjoy a "great meal" of “beans, cornbread, drinks, and dessert,” and the musings of the "great speaker" Gov. Fallin.

Nothing out of the ordinary ... and then:

Additionally, according to the flyer, the guests would be treated to "great fun and fellowship," which would consist of "discuss[ing] issues with fellow conservatives and find[ing] out some things you may not know about the NRA, Planned Parenthood, Ku Klux Klan, and other organizations."

Google Maps Now Lets You Explore Mars And The Moon, If You Know Where To Click

http://techcrunch.com/2014/08/05/google-maps-now-lets-you-explore-mars-and-the-moon-if-you-know-where-to-click/

Hey, you! Want to explore the surface of Mars?

No problem! All we need is a few billion dollars, a couple hundred of the world’s brightest minds, and for someone to get around to solving that pesky “massive levels of radiation” problem.

On second thought, that might take a while. Until then, Google Maps will have to do.

Just in time for the 2nd anniversary of the Curiosity rover touching down on Martian soil, Google has tucked 3D, explorable versions of Mars and the Moon right into Maps. Shootin’ across the galaxy in Google Maps is pretty easy, as long as you know where to click.
