Let's compare the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch with the 2021 attempted coup, shall we ?

BHP got Hitler thrown in prison for only 9 months.
So far, none of the enabling Congresscritters have seen prison. None. Will any ? They should, but we shall see.

BHP led, ten years later, to Hitler becoming Germany's Chancellor. The rest is horrible history.
Where will the attempted coup lead ? Hopefully to small d democratic reforms, the imprisoning of the participants, the enablers, Trump, and the enabling Senators and Congress-people.

BHP got several Nazis killed. "16 Nazi Party members and four police officers" per Wiki, link down below.
The attempted coup got 5 killed, including 1 officer directly and one more possibly indirectly (a suicide).

The BHP was forcefully and fairly quickly put down by the local authorities.
The attempted coup took HOURS to put down, after foot-dragging/obstruction by Trump/acting SecDef/Secretary of the Army/both Seargant at Arms/not sure about ex-Capitol Hill Police Chief who resigned

Can you think of any more comparisons ? I do hope the attempted coup leads to ONLY positive outcomes and not a horrible one for us.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_storming_of_the_United_States_Capitol (so far, not sure of accuracy)

eta: Oh yes, an obvious comparison. The BHP was a clownish coup attempt staged from a Munich beer hall and never, as far as I know, reached any government buildings. The 2021 attempted coup ? IT WAS ON THE CAPITOL BUILDING, the seat of one of our branches of national government!

Marco Rubio acknowledges Trump "bears responsibility" for the Capitol insurrection, but insists holding him accountable with an impeachment trial is the wrong move because it'll "stir up" the country again

F**** you Rubio, you are ALSO a seditionist-enabler. Defeat Rubio in 2022!!

"Rep. Gaetz can leave his beauty bag at home. In Wyoming, the men don't wear make-up."

For the record, I would not give two shits about Gaetz wearing make-up or carrying a beauty bag IF...IF...he was a morally decent and honorable Republican (rare aren't they ?) or a Democrat or at least an honorable person in politics. He is NOT any of those. He is a seditionist-backer and liar.

Snow in London and someone walking their cat in the snow

I thought this might bring a smile to at least one of our beloved UK forum members. Enjoy !

"Dogs of London are very happy with the snow today, I'm not sure I can say the same for this cat"

Apparently quite the row broke out in her thread about the cat being abused and also the lack of masks.

Did you grow up in a "political home" ? just curious

"Political home" means, to me, that one or both of your parents/stepparent/guardian/whoever took care of you was either a publicly-elected official, a party official (like local Dem official), or that politics was simply a regular topic of conversation.

After about age 13 or so, I remember us talking about politics (Nixon and Watergate specifically, mostly) regularly at the dinner table. My dad was never elected or a party official but gave regularly to the local, state and national Democratic party. He grew up in Florida so he was a Democrat from way back. My mother was also a Democrat but more conservative than my Dad. My older brother became a very liberal Democrat, and so did I. I never had any sisters.

So, this political stuff practically runs in my veins. How about you ?
