President Donald Trump is sending out appeals to donors for an “Official Election Defense Fund” as the his prospect for re-election dim, but the fine print of the solicitations reveal that half of the money will actually be used to pay off the campaign’s debt.
As a Wall Street Journal story noted, both the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee began to inundate their donor lists with frantic texts and emails on the day after the Election Day using rhetoric like “We must PROTECT the Election!” Other appeals have been sent under the name of Donald Trump Jr., where he pleads: “My father’s calling on YOU to help bolster our critical Election Defense Fund.”
Other campaign fundraising appeals online include similar, tiny print disclaimers that acknowledge 50 percent of the donations will not be used for recount efforts or legal challenges, but instead will go to vendors or staffers that the campaign has not paid yet. ............(more)

White evangelical Christians in the US again threw their support behind Donald Trump’s bid to retain the presidency in this week’s election, although there was a significant fall compared to 2016.
Exit polls showed that 75% of white evangelicals voted for Trump this year, compared with 81% four years ago. The group, which makes up almost one in five of the US electorate, carries significant weight and was credited with being a major factor in Trump’s 2016 victory.
The 6% fall in support for Trump between 2016 and 2020 may have been critical in key battleground states that are deciding the outcome of the election.
But in Georgia, where votes are still being counted in a tight race, exit polls suggested that 85% of white evangelical Christians voted for Trump, and 14% voted for Joe Biden. ........(more)

(WWJ) The driver of the Trump Unity Bridge truck was arrested by Detroit Police on Friday, and his vehicle impounded.
It happened as Rob Cortis -- who has owned the "bridge" since 1985 -- arrived in downtown Detroit where Trump supporters were converging on the TCF Center for an election protest.
WWJ's Vickie Thomas said Cortis was taken into custody by officers on an outstanding warrant out of Canton, Michigan, on a charge of disturbing the peace. He also has an invalid license plate, police said. ............(more)

(Salon) Federal judges have already begun to toss last-minute lawsuits brought by President Donald Trump's campaign, which has turned to attempting to litigate a victory as its electoral hopes dwindle.
The campaign, which has falsely alleged that Democrats are trying to "steal" the election by counting all the votes cast, has so far filed lawsuits in three states: Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Within hours, judges had thrown out the suits in Georgia and Michigan. The Supreme Court has already declined once to rule on the Pennsylvania case.
On Thursday, the campaign announced its intent to file a fourth suit in Nevada. It has also vowed to request a recount in Wisconsin, where Democratic nominee Joe Biden has what appears to be an unassailable 20,000-vote lead.
Election law experts called the suits frivolous and unlikely to make a difference.
"They're totally small potatoes," Jon Sherman, senior counsel at the Fair Elections Center, told Salon. "Each has been rejected so far, and honestly, I'd rather not give them any oxygen." ............(more)

(Detroit Free Press) During a national address Thursday night, President Donald Trump repeatedly lied about vote counting efforts in Detroit, argued incorrectly that he won Michigan and vowed he would win the election nationally.
It was part of a speech where Trump again attacked the integrity of the national election process without providing any evidence of misconduct and telegraphed more legal action.
"We think we will win the election very easily. We think there is going to be a lot of litigation, since we have so much evidence, so much proof. And it's going to end up, perhaps, at the highest court of the land...because we can't have an election stolen like this," Trump said ........(more)
