Analysis by AXIOS

Why it matters: The findings bolster preliminary data showing a surge in gun violence across the country.
What's happening: There are three big factors, with the weight for each in dispute — there are lots of politics around it.

1.Some experts point to the pandemic's unique social and economic pressures and disruptions.
2.The initial surge coincided with last summer's protests over police violence. Many in law enforcement point to changes in policing following the protests, including a pullback amid declining trust. This created an environment where shooters could feel more emboldened.
3.Gun sales have increased throughout the pandemic. Firearms background checks spiked in spring 2020 and haven't come down.
The findings: Firearms injuries that resulted in a documented health care visit began spiking in late spring 2020, according to data compiled by the Epic Health Research Network. They peaked in October.

After dipping last fall and early winter, firearm injury rates surged again in the spring, with June 2021 levels 64% higher than in 2019.
People of color were particularly vulnerable — firearm injury visits increased by 76% for Hispanic patients and 89% for Black patients, while rising 40% for whites.

Last week I posted this DATA POINT:
50 percent — the increase in gunshot injuries at pediatric trauma centers in Houston since 2020. Similar trends have been seen across the country, including in Fort Worth, Hartford, and Memphis, according to a new article.

Guns just make everything better. Road rage? Add guns! Domestic violence? Add guns! Pandemic? Add an epidemic of guns! And the children! Just think of the interesting conversations they'll have over the scars they carry for the rest of their lives. Because . . . guns.

When are we going to finally get sick of this shit and change things? It's within our power.

Machine gun fire increasingly heard on US streets. Yeah, MACHINE GUNS!

https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2021/09/15/atf-says-auto-sears-are-becoming-more-common-in-twin-cities/
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The sound of automatic gunfire is becoming all too common in some Twin Cities neighborhoods.

That has the ATF actively searching for people who have devices that turn semi-automatic weapons into automatic weapons. Field agents are finding more of those devices being used in crimes across the state.

There's a video at the link. Gunners will always find a way. It's crazy making. An inexpensive device that replaces the trigger mechanism in readily available guns turns them into full auto machine guns capable of firing 700 times a minute and with high capacity magazines can be reloaded in less than a second! People are selling this shit to anyone who has cash! What the fuck is wrong with us???

Oh! For those who thought bump stocks were now "illegal", they're not. After the 2017 Las Vegas shooting that killed 60 and wounded more than 400 Donald Trump instructed the ATF to classify them as machine guns. A circuit court overturned that, so they are for sale again at your favorite gun store.

Meanwhile there's another device, a 'forced reset trigger'. It also emulates a full automatic machinegun. The ATF is questioning the legality of this device and, of course, the maker is suing the ATF. See, it all hinges on the definition of machine gun. Literally the verbiage of a 1934 law, not the actual function of the gun. It's nutz.
