Seedersandleechers's JournalREPORT: $6 Million Worth Of Hair Donations To Locks Of Love Have Gone Missing
Source: Businessinsider.com
Hold onto your ponytails: A new report alleges that Locks of Love a well-known charity that makes wigs for children suffering from medical hair loss has disclosure inadequacies that could total up to $6 million annually.
Locks of Love reportedly receives around 104,000 hair donations per year to make "hair prosthetics," according to the report by Nonprofit Investor, an organization that evaluates charities.
That should be enough to produce around 2,080 hairpieces, taking into account that 80% of donated hair can't be used (too short, gray, or bleached), and that it takes six to 10 donations to make a Locks of Love wig.
But in 2011, Locks of Love made just 317 of its custom-fitted wigs, according to Nonprofit Investor.

I've known so many high school girls who have donated their hair to this organization. Is it a scam. ?
Western Black Rhino Declared Extinct
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Africas western black rhino is now officially extinct. After being a victim of increasingly devastating poaching and seeing little to no conservation efforts, the species is now gone, and others including the northern white rhino and Asias Javan rhino are expected to swiftly follow unless efforts to stop the senseless killing of them prevail.
The black rhino had not been seen in West Africa since 2006, and had been on the IUCNs Red List of Threatened Species since then.
The situation could have had very different results if the suggested conservation measures had been implemented, said Simon Stuart, chair of the IUCN species survival commission. These measures must be strengthened now, specifically managing habitats in order to improve performance, preventing other rhinos from fading into extinction.

O’Connor: U.S Supreme Court may have blown it by getting involved in 2000 election
Source: Kansas City Star
Sandra Day OConnor, the first woman U.S. Supreme Court justice, is expressing doubts over the courts historic involvement in the 2000 presidential election.
Just maybe, OConnor said over the weekend, the high court should have stayed out of the 2000 election.
Maybe the court should have said, Were not going to take it, goodbye, OConnor told the Chicago Tribune editorial board in reference to the controversial Bush v. Gore decision. It turned out the election authorities in Florida hadnt done a real good job there and kind of messed it up. And probably the Supreme Court added to the problem at the end of the day.
Its not the first time OConnor has expressed doubt about siding with the majority in the 5-4 decision. In a 2010 interview, she said she didnt know if it was right. But, she added, she didnt worry about it because several recounts found that Bush would have won the state regardless.

What a crock of shit! The recounts found that Gore would have won. Hey bitch, feel guilty about all those people killed in the Iraq war?
Belize Court Protects Barrier Reef from Unsafe Oil Drilling
BELIZE CITY, Belize, April 18, 2013 (ENS) In a case brought by environment groups, Belizes Supreme Court has declared offshore oil drilling contracts issued by the Government of Belize in 2004 and 2007 null and void.
The ruling halts the Belizean governments immediate effort to allow offshore oil drilling in the Meso American Reef, the worlds second largest barrier reef.
The ruling by Justice Oswell Legall was in response to a case brought by Oceana, Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, COLA, and the Belize Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage.

Dolphin Assisted Fishing
Laguna is a Brazilian city located in the southern state of Santa Catarina.
An interesting collaboration has developed in Laguna: a pod of bottlenose dolphins drive fish towards fishermen who stand at the beach in shallow waters. Then one dolphin rolls over, which the fishermen take as sign to throw out their nets. The dolphins feed on the escaping fish. They were not trained for this behavior; the collaboration has been going on at least since 1847. The phenomenon which also occurs in parts of West Africa but nowhere else in the world has for years attracted marine biologists and natural historians to Laguna to study the bizarre, communal relationship.
Critically ill woman faces jail time if she goes forward with life-saving abortion

In addition to her health complications, doctors have confirmed that the fetus has anencephaly and is non-viable
According to a report from Amnesty International, a seriously ill and pregnant El Salvadorian woman may face jail time if she goes forward with a life-saving and medically-recommended abortion. Abortion is illegal under all circumstances in El Salvador.
The 22-year-old mother of one, identified only as Beatriz, is four-and-a-half months pregnant, but her doctors have confirmed that the fetus has anencephaly (developing without a brain and certain parts of the skull) and that the pregnancy is non-viable. In addition to the fetal diagnosis, Beatriz is experiencing critical health complications related to her lupus and kidney disease.
The hospital treating Beatriz requested legal permission to perform the abortion more than a month ago, but authorities have still not agreed to let them proceed. Now, if government policy and religious ideology interfering with a womans right to access abortion care or a doctors ability to exercise medical judgment and save a womans life sounds familiar, it should.
