MannyGoldstein's Journal"Man Up". Can we get rid of that phrase?
I doubt that I've used it in decades, it's nasty on so many levels. I think we can give that one a rest.
Frankly, given all of the hullabaloo over misogynism on DU of late, I'm surprised that I haven't seen a slew of posts on that phrase being used by a public official, but maybe it's not as offensive to others as I'm thinking?
If there was a movement to draft Elizabeth Warren for President...
Would you participate?
"The Hard Left are no different than the Hard Right"
"Both swiftboating Kerry. In fact, the hard left is just infiltrators from the right pretending to be left."
That's a reasonable summary, I think, of what I've been reading today.
Fabulous.
When the Right "swiftboated" Kerry, they made up lies and used these lies to attack Kerry. The swiftboating from the Left - which is exactly the same as from the Right, dont'cha know - simply points out well-known facts. But if you're Left of the Third Way, facts are apparently as unfair as lies.
Okey-Dokey.
As to the Left being the Right in disguise... what seems to qualify as being "Hard Left" these days is wanting:
- an end to the Bush/Obama Spy on Everyone program
- Medicare for all
- fair taxation of the wealthy - repealing the other two-thirds 82% of the Bush tax cuts would be a good start
- a dramatic reduction of our military, and keeping them out of murderous mischief
- US laws to apply to bankers the same they apply to the rest of us
- economic policy that gives the 99% a fair shake
Anarchy! No actual Democrat could want such things! Must be a Republican operative or stealth Libertarian!
Well, guess what: Last time I checked, roughly two-thirds of Americans were also in favor of each of these things.
Hard Left, my ass. We're the middle. Sorry that's so #%^*ing unreasonable.
Goldstein: Kerry should "man up" and quit government
for his vote on the Iraq War.
Kerry: Snowden should 'man up' and return to U.S.
Which will cause more suffering? That damned war or Ed Snowden's disclosures?
(Even better, Kerry should "person up" up and quit. What's with the "man up"? Women aren't capable of whatever it is that Kerry seeks?)
Obama Pledges $700 Billion Bailout of VA
President Barack Obama has called for a $700 billion bailout of the Veterans Administration in response to a growing scandal over veteran abuse and mismanagement at its hospital system.
In a press conference this morning, the president said he was furious and upset over revelations that officials at a Phoenix VA hospital covered up the long list of veterans waiting to receive treatment, 40 of whom may have died as a result. Twenty-six hospitals and facilities where similar claims have been reported are now being investigated.
What we have seen here is mismanagement at the top levels," Obama said. "Abuse, incompetence, and a lack of strict oversight has been going on for years at the VA, and it has ruined peoples lives and forever shaken the American peoples confidence in an important institution.
"Thats why I believe the correct course of action is to have Congress authorize a $700 billion bailout of the VA, so we can bandage up this problem and get the ship back on course.
Thank God that our President is going to bat for our veterans! This bailout will make a huge difference in many lives.
Suppose an outside group wanted to render DU ineffective
As we move towards the 2014 and 2016 elections, what if Republicans or Third-Wayers wanted to neutralize DU as an active, motivated hotbed of FDR Liberalism.
What strategy might they employ?
What should we look out for?
Sick and twisted stuff ******* Trigger Warning **********
I just visited the Reddit MRA group to see what's up. It's bad, bad.
Have people actually gone to the site? Unless you're easily shocked, I suggest you see what's up for yourself, hearing about it second hand doesn't really capture the thing.

Why Elizabeth Warren should run for president
If it plays in Peoria...
Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren is on a publicity tour for her new campaign-style book, A Fighting Chance. As she talks to the press, Warren is repeating previous statements that she will not run for president in 2016. But her denials arent really denials, and her partys unique presidential circumstances give Warren plenty of room to run. Judging by what she has said publicly, theres no reason to rule out a Warren candidacy.
First, the non-denial denials. Recently ABCs David Muir asked Warren, Are you going to run for president? Warrens response was, Im not running for president.
Thats the oldest lawyerly evasion in the book. Warren, a former law professor, did not say, I am not going to run for president. Instead, she said she is not running, which could, in some sense, be true when she spoke the words but no longer true by, say, later this year.
...
The bottom line is that Warrens statements are entirely consistent with someone who is planning to announce a presidential candidacy later this year. Maybe she will, maybe she wont. But she ruled nothing out.

You must not hate those who do wrong or harmful things; but with compassion, you must do what you can to stop them for they are harming themselves, as well as those who suffer from their actions.
