Not one little bit.

I was somewhat involved in the anti-war movement and there are very few similarities now. Once in a while there is a big march on DC, or some protest that eventually fizzles. The sit-ins in the state capitols (WI, TX) and the Occupy Movement come closest to how it "felt" in the late 1960s. The assassinations and Nixon's 1968 election were the beginning of the end of the euphoria we felt.

The last thing Chuck Weintraub remembers is pushing a lawnmower through his Cranberry yard, surrounded by his three dogs.

When he awoke three days later from a medically induced coma, he was stunned to learn that Chloe — a dog so timid that she covered her eyes with her paws when stressed — had saved his life.

Did anyone watch "Gasland 2" on HBO?

Much of it is about Pennsylvania.... including Rendell, Corbutt and Ridge. It's just so sad what these criminals did to our beautiful Penn's Woods. Damn them all to hell.

Eight injured at a fracking plant in WVA today (July 7).

Doddridge County gas fracking explosion injures at least 7
By David Gutman

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- At least seven people were injured, four of them very seriously, after an explosion at a hydraulic fracturing operation at a gas well drilling pad in Doddridge County early Sunday morning, according to emergency officials.

Pat Heaster, the Doddridge County director of emergency services, said that four workers had potentially life-threatening burns. Those four were transferred to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport and then flown to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh.

Heaster said that at least three, and possibly four, others were taken to area hospitals in private vehicles.

Kevin Kilstrom, an executive with Antero Resources, which owns the well, said that a total of five workers were eventually flown to the burn center in Pittsburgh.

A Doddridge County 911 dispatcher had earlier said that a total of eight people were injured in the explosion.

Today was David McCullough Day in Pittsburgh. :)

'David McCullough Day' announced in Allegheny County
July 7, 2013 9:57 am

It's going to be a good day for David McCullough, the nationally recognized historian and son of Pittsburgh.

It's his 80th birthday. This afternoon, the 16th Street Bridge will be renamed after him.

And to top it off, Allegheny County Council has declared today "David McCullough Day."

"Allegheny County is proud of the accomplishments of Mr. McCullough and the fact that he is a native son," read the council's resolution, signed by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and council president Charles Martoni. "He has been a true friend and advocate of the engineering profession through his works that are informative and inspiring to his many readers."

County workers will close the 16th Street Bridge at 11 a.m., with the dedication beginning at 2 p.m. Visitors are welcome to stop by Mr. McCullough's birthday celebration afterward at the Heinz History Center, though his subsequent speech is sold out.

Checking in.

I hate the heat. It might as well be the dead of winter because you can't go outside! I am a prisoner to air conditioning.

We have had about 3 weeks straight of hot, humid, and rainy days (PA). The weeds are out of control and it's too muggy to work outside. Bleah.

I actually love winter. I don't mind the snow one bit.
