Two taco shop toilers track down Webster tip thief

Every so often, you run into a person who doesn't care for trivia contests — but two employees of Fuzzy's Taco Shop in Webster Groves were determined not to let the haters win.

That's why the two workers, Larry Hardney Jr., 28, and Tim Mnyande, 23, chased down a would-be robber who used the popular Thursday-night promotion to snatch a tip jar, stuffed with about $90, from the store's counter.

The two men chased and caught the thief and then held the man until they could turn him over to a police officer, a store manager said.

Webster Groves police did not return phone calls.

Prevailing wage repeal: a con job

Kentucky voted overwhelmingly to elect Donald Trump president, along with historic GOP majorities in both houses of the Legislature. To win, Trump and Kentucky Republicans campaigned on a lot of promises — including to “create jobs,” and “lift the wages” of working people.

This month, the Kentucky Legislature is expected to do just the opposite, by repealing the state’s prevailing wage law.

Prevailing Wage is the minimum wage for skilled construction work on state-funded projects. There are over 82,000 Kentuckians working in occupations affected by its state prevailing wage — carpentry, plumbing, electrical, pavers, roofers, painters and more. A repeal of prevailing wage would be a state-mandated pay cut for these workers.

More than 5,400 expected to attend Womens March on St. Louis

More than 5,400 are planning to take to the streets Saturday, Jan. 21 as part of a march and rally in St. Louis to show unity in the fight for the rights of women and other marginalized groups.

The Women’s March on St. Louis, which coincides with the national event Women’s March on Washington in Washington D.C., will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown St. Louis. The event is inclusive, and all women, men and children are welcome to attend.

“We are so excited with the amount of energy surrounding the event,” said Valerie Brinkmann, one of the St. Louis organizers. “We encourage all participating to watch the weather forecast and dress accordingly because this event is happening no matter what.”

The theme of the event is: March. Rally. Act. The march will begin near Union Station at Market and 18th streets, proceed east on market and end at Luther Ely Smith Park at 1 Memorial Dr. The route is about a mile, and it’s expected to take about an hour.
