Fear of the unknown is responsible for the majority of control of the masses.

The fear of death and hell is used by bigots because it is easy. We all die and being afraid of death is common in the majority of human beings. If a bigoted sociopath has an agenda to promote and needs sheeple to follow the fear of the unknown is a gold mine of opportunity.
