The real (surprisingly comforting) reason rural America is doomed to decline
From the Washington Post (and it is comforting in a way)
The real (surprisingly comforting) reason rural America is doomed to decline
According to the United States original 1950 urban classifications, rural America is crushing it. Its home to about as many people as urban America, and its growing faster. So why do headlines and statistics paint rural areas as perpetually in decline?
Because the contest between rural and urban America is rigged. Official definitions are regularly updated in such a way that rural counties are continually losing their most successful places to urbanization. When a rural county grows, it transmutes into an urban one.
In a way, rural areas serve as urban Americas farm team: All their most promising prospects get called up to the big leagues, leaving the low-density margins populated by an ever-shrinking pool of those who couldnt qualify.

Imperative that Pelosi and Nadler get on the same page (and
I favor Nadler).
Pelosi, Nadler tangle on impeachment, contempt vote
There is growing daylight between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) over the best strategy for combating a Trump administration that is flouting a flurry of congressional subpoenas at nearly every turn.
The pair of powerful Democrats clashed in recent days over whether to launch impeachment proceedings against President Trump and how soon to hold a contempt vote against Attorney General William Barr.
Nadler, spurred by frustrated Judiciary Committee members, has been privately pushing leadership for both an impeachment inquiry, and a contempt vote immediately after lawmakers return from their weeklong Memorial Day recess.
Pelosi is still urging a go-slow approach, concerned that Democrats have not yet swayed public opinion about why such aggressive tactics are necessary. The Speaker is also pointing to a string of court victories over the Trump administration and business entities, bolstering Democrats' arguments that the law is on their side as they methodically probe the president.

If Pelosi does not lead the House and Democratic party into the impeachment
process, the Democratic party will be gravely damaged up and down the slate in 2020.
If the Senate does not convict, incumbent GOP Senators will suffer in the 2020 election.
Agree with you that Trump has a base that will not be swayed.
IMO it is more important to stop subsidizing fundamental Christian impact on voting than messing with Electoral College and maybe even gerrymandering.
This all about getting rid of a sickness that has infected our Democratic Republic and has been ignored far too long.
Barr needs to be impeached and humiliated out of public influence and power as well.
Samatha Fish - Love Letters
Released as a single May 2019 and on a CD scheduled for release in August 30, 2019.
Love Letters (Samantha Fish/Jim McCormick)
Oh my sweet little sexy babe,
Why can't you sleep on the side of me?
Why can't I breathe so easily?
Don't you know what you do to me?
Pack of smokes and your pocket change
Are all I got when you go away
It hurts my heart, but I can't complain
I woulda done this anyway
You and I - we could rule this world together
You and I - I'd pull you in but I know better
I'm drowning in love letters,
A heavy love that I can't measure,
I'm drowning in love letters,
Oh
Oh my sweet little sexy babe
Keep waking up in the bed I made
Forget the pain when you wanna play
I'm back to broken when you go away
You and I - we could rule this world together
You and I - I'd pull you in but I know better
I'm drowning in love letters,
A heavy love that I can't measure,
I'm drowning in love letters,
I you think I would know better
I'm drowning in love letters,
A heavy love that I can't measure,
I'm drowning in love letters,
Oh
How can something so sweet, so sweet be so cruel?
How can something so real, so real make me feel just like a fool?
You and I - we could rule this world together
You and I - I'd pull you in but I know better
I'm drowning in love letters,
A heavy love that I can't measure,
I'm drowning in love letters,
I you think I would know better
I'm drowning in love letters,
A heavy love that I can't measure,
I'm drowning in love letters,
Oh
The USA has the highest rate of incarnation of any country in the World
In September 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners.[1] Corrections (which includes prisons, jails, probation, and parole) cost around $74 billion in 2007 according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics.[2][3]
At the end of 2016, the Prison Policy Initiative estimated that in the United States, about 2,298,300 people were incarcerated out of a population of 324.2 million. This means that 0.7% of the population was behind bars. Of those who were incarcerated, about 1,316,000 people were in state prison, 615,000 in local jails, 225,000 in federal prisons, 48,000 in youth correctional facilities, 34,000 in immigration detention camps, 22,000 in involuntary commitment, 11,000 in territorial prisons, 2,500 in Indian Country jails, and 1,300 in United States military prisons.[4]

Comparing some countries with similar percentages of immigrants, Germany has an incarceration rate of 76 per 100,000 population (as of 2014),[25] Italy is 85 per 100,000 (as of 2015),[26] and Saudi Arabia is 161 per 100,000 (as of 2013).[27] Comparing other countries with a zero tolerance policy for illegal drugs, the rate of Russia is 455 per 100,000 (as of 2015),[28] Kazakhstan is 275 per 100,000 (as of 2015),[29] Singapore is 220 per 100,000 (as of 2014),[30] and Sweden is 60 per 100,000 (as of 2014).[31]
Her parents were Alfred and Theodora Krober, very intelligent parents.
Le Guin was raised in Berkeley and graduated from Berkeley High School.
Alfred Kroeber is California's most prominent anthropologist. The anthropology building at UC Berkeley is Kroeber Hall.

Alfred Louis Kroeber (June 11, 1876 October 5, 1960) was an American cultural anthropologist. He received his Ph.D. under Franz Boas at Columbia University in 1901, the first doctorate in anthropology awarded by Columbia. He was also the first professor appointed to the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley.[2] He played an integral role in the early days of its Museum of Anthropology, where he served as director from 1909 through 1947.[3] Kroeber provided detailed information about Ishi, the last surviving member of the Yahi people, whom he studied over a period of years. He was the father of the acclaimed novelist, poet, and writer of short stories Ursula K. Le Guin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodora_Kroeber
Theodora Covel Kracaw Kroeber Quinn (March 24, 1897 July 4, 1979) was an American writer and anthropologist, best known for her accounts of several Native Californian cultures.[1] Born in Denver, Colorado, Kroeber grew up in the mining town of Telluride, before enrolling in the University of California, Berkeley, for undergraduate and graduate studies. Married once in 1921 and widowed in 1923, in 1926 she married anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber. She had two children with Kroeber, and two others from her first marriage. The Kroebers traveled together to many of Alfred's field sites, including an archaeological dig in Peru. Nine years after Alfred's death in 1960, Theodora Kroeber married artist John Quinn.
Theodora Kroeber began writing professionally late in her life, after her children had grown up. She released a collection of translated Native American traditional narratives in 1959, and in 1961 published Ishi in Two Worlds, an account of Ishi, the last member of the Yahi people of Northern California whom Alfred Kroeber had befriended and studied between 1911 and 1916. This volume sold widely, and received high praise from commentators for its writing. Kroeber published several other works in her later years, including a collaboration with her daughter Ursula K. Le Guin and several anthropological texts. She served as a Regent of the University of California for a year before her death in 1979.
You have this backwards - The media should be why are we not far into
the impeachment process?
We should be far into the impeachment process.
The Mueller investigation provided much breadth but was not necessary for impeachment, there are many other items worthy of impeachment. The Mueller report and how it has been unveiled to public if anything has probably made impeachment less likely.
Today's media is mostly entertainment and propaganda.
It would be more useful for the media to be focused on impeachment hearings than to cheer leading for war in Iran or Venezuela or covering a hot war with either country. If a war starts, impeachment is certainly "off the table".
The corporate media way to often provides cover for items that should be publicized to inform citizens and others. The media is way off the rails and has been for some time.
This is criminal. Good for AOC.
Why haven't others spoken out?
Who takes $$$ from Gilead and its officers and board members?
Pelosi is wrong not to move strongly into impeachment ASAP
Every moment lost weakens the Democratic position in the 2020 election and strengthens Trump and the GOP and the damage caused by the mis-adminisitration continues.
If Trump starts a hot war, we are in huge trouble as a nation.
Pelosi was wrong to take impeachment off the table with GWB.
Impeachment of Trump has never has been dependent on the Mueller Report.
To not impeach Trump damages the position for the Democratic party in the 2020 elections.
