The real (surprisingly comforting) reason rural America is doomed to decline


According to the United States’ original 1950 urban classifications, rural America is crushing it. It’s home to about as many people as urban America, and it’s growing faster. So why do headlines and statistics paint rural areas as perpetually in decline?

Because the contest between rural and urban America is rigged. Official definitions are regularly updated in such a way that rural counties are continually losing their most successful places to urbanization. When a rural county grows, it transmutes into an urban one.


In a way, rural areas serve as urban America’s farm team: All their most promising prospects get called up to the big leagues, leaving the low-density margins populated by an ever-shrinking pool of those who couldn’t qualify.

I favor Nadler).

There is growing daylight between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) over the best strategy for combating a Trump administration that is flouting a flurry of congressional subpoenas at nearly every turn.

The pair of powerful Democrats clashed in recent days over whether to launch impeachment proceedings against President Trump and how soon to hold a contempt vote against Attorney General William Barr.
Nadler, spurred by frustrated Judiciary Committee members, has been privately pushing leadership for both an impeachment inquiry, and a contempt vote immediately after lawmakers return from their weeklong Memorial Day recess.

Pelosi is still urging a go-slow approach, concerned that Democrats have not yet swayed public opinion about why such aggressive tactics are necessary. The Speaker is also pointing to a string of court victories over the Trump administration and business entities, bolstering Democrats' arguments that the law is on their side as they methodically probe the president.

If Pelosi does not lead the House and Democratic party into the impeachment

process, the Democratic party will be gravely damaged up and down the slate in 2020.

If the Senate does not convict, incumbent GOP Senators will suffer in the 2020 election.

Agree with you that Trump has a base that will not be swayed.

IMO it is more important to stop subsidizing fundamental Christian impact on voting than messing with Electoral College and maybe even gerrymandering.

This all about getting rid of a sickness that has infected our Democratic Republic and has been ignored far too long.

Barr needs to be impeached and humiliated out of public influence and power as well.

The USA has the highest rate of incarnation of any country in the World

In September 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners.[1] Corrections (which includes prisons, jails, probation, and parole) cost around $74 billion in 2007 according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics.[2][3]

You have this backwards - The media should be why are we not far into

the impeachment process?

We should be far into the impeachment process.

The Mueller investigation provided much breadth but was not necessary for impeachment, there are many other items worthy of impeachment. The Mueller report and how it has been unveiled to public if anything has probably made impeachment less likely.

Today's media is mostly entertainment and propaganda.

It would be more useful for the media to be focused on impeachment hearings than to cheer leading for war in Iran or Venezuela or covering a hot war with either country. If a war starts, impeachment is certainly "off the table".

The corporate media way to often provides cover for items that should be publicized to inform citizens and others. The media is way off the rails and has been for some time.

Pelosi is wrong not to move strongly into impeachment ASAP

Every moment lost weakens the Democratic position in the 2020 election and strengthens Trump and the GOP and the damage caused by the mis-adminisitration continues.

If Trump starts a hot war, we are in huge trouble as a nation.

Pelosi was wrong to take impeachment off the table with GWB.

Impeachment of Trump has never has been dependent on the Mueller Report.

To not impeach Trump damages the position for the Democratic party in the 2020 elections.
