Notoriously anti-immigrant Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is back in the national spotlight, and not for a good reason. On Tuesday, a federal judge extended a court order that mandates that Arpaio improve medical and mental health care in Maricopa Countys jails.
Last year, Arpaio and Maricopa County commissioners asked the federal court to lift a 2008 court order that charged the group with ending the overcrowding of facilities, providing adequate medical and mental health care, serving food that meets the U.S. Department of Agricultures dietary standards, and maintaining access to medication provided by staff.
During a hearing that ended in March, Neil Wake, the judge who issued the order, concluded that Arpaio and his colleagues fell short in meeting their obligations, signaling a need to keep the order intact. Prisoners rights organizations celebrated the recent decision as a step in the right direction for people harmed while under police supervision in the Arizona-based jail system.
Last year, the Maricopa County jails requested an end to the 2008 court order, claiming that theyd done what was necessary for the detainees mental and physical health, Eric Balaban, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Unions National Prison Project, wrote in a press release. We said, Not so fast.

GOP Candidate Voted In Both Illinois And Wisconsin In The Same Year
Source: Talking Points Memo
ByDaniel StraussPublishedSeptember 24, 2014, 9:42 AM EDT
A Republican candidate running for the Illinois state legislature has switched the state where she voted between Illinois and Wisconsin in the past few years.
The candidate, Kathy Myalls (pictured, left), voted in a primary election in Illinois and three months after that voted in Wisconsin's recall election aimed at recalling Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker (pictured right), according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Myalls also voted in Wisconsin in the 2012 presidential election. The following spring she came back to Illinois to vote there.
Myalls was asked about her vote in the Walker recall in an interview with the Sun-Times.
"No. I don't think I did," Myalls told the Chicago newspaper. "I don't think they cancelled my registration in Fontana. And that may be what you're seeing. They didn't automatically cancel it."

Denver Area Students Walk Out in Protest
Source: Yahoo News/AP
ARVADA, Colo. (AP) Hundreds of students walked out of classrooms around suburban Denver on Tuesday in protest over a conservative-led school board proposal to focus history education on topics that promote citizenship, patriotism and respect for authority, providing a show of civil disobedience that the new standards would aim to downplay.
The youth protest in the state's second-largest school district follows a sick-out from teachers that shut down two high schools in the politically and economically diverse area that has become a key political battleground.
Student participants said their demonstration was organized by word of mouth and social media. Many waved American flags and carried signs, including messages that read "There is nothing more patriotic than protest."
The school board proposal that triggered the walkout calls of instructional materials that present positive aspects of the nation and its heritage. It would establish a committee to regularly review texts and course plans, starting with Advanced Placement history, to make sure materials "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights" and don't "encourage or condone civil disorder, social strike or disregard of the law."

As someone who knows this, I know what this is all about. It is destroying the parts of U.S. History that conservatives don't like..Pullman Strike, conditions of workers in 1880s, child labor, and reasons for unions, mining conditions and certain aspects of the depression of 1929, and so on......and on...... All of that would be taken out, and more, by these so called, "conservatives" who would slant history against any progressive ideas, just like they do now..
This is not good...in my opinion
"BEIRUT (AP) The spokesman of the Islamic State militant group says his fighters are ready to face a U.S.-led military coalition and is calling on Muslims worldwide to kill civilians of nations that join the fight. "While this is just talk, it is frightening in the long run. No matter what views we hold about the "Islamic State" group who knows what it is capable of?...Especially if our side kills some of its leaders, who knows what they will do in .."revenge" What the hell are we getting into?????
Parnell Brothers Taken Into Custody After Convictions (2 men that poisoned us, peanut butter 2009)
(Owners of peanut processing plant...guilty of food poisoning, may get life sentence for selling Salmonella tainted peanut butter)

On Friday, U.S. marshals escorted brothers Stewart and Michael Parnell from the C.B. King U.S. Courthouse in downtown Albany, GA, to the Crisp County Jail in Cordele, GA, where they spent their first night in prison. The two men will likely remain in the lockup until at least Monday, when they might be able to post secured bail bonds of up to $150,000 so they can be released until sentencing.
Both Stewart and Michael Parnell were convicted earlier Friday in Albanys U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia on multiple federal felony counts stemming from a deadly Salmonella outbreak that began almost six years ago. They were then transported to the Crisp County Jail, 44 miles to the northeast.
A third defendant, Mary Wilkerson, the former quality control manager for the Peanut Corporation of Americas Blakely, GA, processing plant responsible for the Salmonella contamination, was allowed to go home. She was found guilty on one of two counts of obstruction of justice.
The 60-year-old Stewart Parnell and his 55-year-old brother were together convicted on a total of 97 federal felony counts. Upon hearing the jury verdicts, Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Dasher asked to have the brothers jailed until sentencing. He said that, because of their ages, the expected sentences of 27-33 years would be the equivalent of life sentences.

This statement from an email about these rich assholes explains why they are guilty.....(it can be found at the end of the article)

"Jurors were likely convinced by some of the emails, especially the ones in which the Parnells seemed unmoved by whether or not any one product shipment was contaminated. Just ship it, read a Stewart Parnell email about a peanut load held up for a lab test. I cannot afford to (lose) another customer.

About 108 years ago, Upton Sinclair wrote a book, "The Jungle" The quotes in that book, sound just like the comments above. That was an incredible book that led to laws (pure Food and Drug Act.) that were supposed to prevent such events as the Salmonella contamination in 2009. Republicans have (for a number of years) underfunded inspection programs on purpose to lesson federal control of the food we eat. ..This is what we get from them.."Just ship it."
Here is a link from Web Md on this outbreak (this was written at the time of the outbreak)...read it for yourself...there was real fear..

This is What's Really At Stake in Battle for Senate Control: Talking Points Memo
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/whats-really-at-stake-in-senate-control________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Arguably the most significant consequence of a Republican Senate takeover in 2014 is absent from the campaign trail, and hardly registers in any polls asking Americans what their top election issues are.
It's not Obamacare. It's not taxes or spending or immigration. It's not the ISIS terrorist threat.
It's judicial and administrative nominations: who gets to be a lifetime-tenured federal judge, and who gets to run powerful government agencies.
Major legislation will remain bottled up under any plausible outcome in November as President Barack Obama will still hold the veto pen and Republicans will still control the House. But the Senate is the exclusive guardian of the nomination process. And in a potential Republican-led Senate, probable Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) would have complete control over which of Obama's nominations may come up for a confirmation vote.
"My guess is they put a stop to a host of nominations and try to use that process for hostage taking and leverage," said Norm Ornstein, a congressional scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. "Certainly it means the ability of Obama to get any judicial nominations through becomes about zero."

Air Bag Flaw, Long Known to Honda and Takata, Led to Recalls: New York Times.

SEPT. 11, 2014
An air bag exploded in a Honda Accord in 2004 in Alabama, shooting out metal fragments and injuring the cars driver. At a loss to explain the incident, Honda and its Japanese air bag supplier deemed it an anomaly and did not issue a recall or seek the involvement of federal safety regulators.
Today, more than 14 million vehicles have been recalled by 11 automakers over rupture risks involving air bags manufactured by the supplier, Takata. That is about five times the number of vehicles recalled this year by General Motors for its deadly ignition switch defect.
Two deaths and more than 30 injuries have been linked to ruptures in Honda vehicles, and complaints received by regulators about various automakers blame Takata air bags for at least 139 injuries, including 37 people who reported air bags that ruptured or spewed shrapnel or chemicals. In one incident in December 2009, a Honda Accord driven by Gurjit Rathore, 33, hit a mail truck in Richmond, Va. Her air bag exploded, propelling shrapnel into her neck and chest, and she bled to death in front of her three children, according to a lawsuit filed by her family.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
If you look at the entire story...you will see that this company..Takada..was responsible for over 14,000,000 recalled airbags..Who knows how many injuries were not reported. Add this one to the list of crooks never prosecuted...
