Seattle Seahawks Are Planning Some Sort Of National Anthem Protest

Two weeks after San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem sitdown grabbed headlines, the Seattle Seahawks could be ready to join him.

Seahawks defensive back Jeremy Lane has already done so. Lane sat down during the national anthem before Seattle’s final preseason game against the Oakland Raiders last week. But now, it seems the entire Seahawks team is planning something during their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. What that something is, though, remains unclear.

The first sign that more Seahawks players may join Lane and Kaepernick came from veteran wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who told the Seattle Times on Wednesday that he has considered sitting through the anthem.

“I have [considered it],” Baldwin said. “I want to make sure I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so.’’

Linebacker Bruce Wagner told the Times that whatever the team decides to do, “it’s not going to be individual. It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.”

Wagner added that it would be “a big surprise.”

On Thursday afternoon, Baldwin posted a cryptic tweet about the team’s plans:

Colin Kaepernick’s Jersey Sales Have Skyrocketed Since He Began His Protest

?quality=90&w=956&h=530

http://uproxx.com/sports/colin-kaepernick-jersey-sales-since-protest/

Some fans have set fire to Colin Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey, while others have only attempted to set fire to it. These protests of a protest doesn’t seem to be doing much good since, for every burnt jersey, there are plenty more being purchased.

Before Kaep began his protest against police brutality and racial inequality by sitting (and later kneeling out of respect for the military) during the national anthem, he had the 20th-best selling jersey on the 49ers team site. Considering the site still sells Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott jerseys, this isn’t completely unimpressive, but it still puts his lack of popularity as a player in the bay area into perspective.

However, his protest has turned heads, and it seems like a silent majority are agreeing with Kaepernick’s stance, and are helping make his promised upcoming million-dollar donation to various charities a little easier on his wallet. His jersey is now third in the 49ers store.

Liberal Redneck: Colin Kaepernick and the National Anthem

[Warning: Strong language] The Daily News’ Hillbilly-in-Chief Trae Crowder is ready for some football and not the “politically divisive hot potato” that is the Colin Kaepernick national anthem situation, which ironically has offended people who have spent “the better part of a year complaining about how not great America is.”

“I do agree with Kaepernick about racism in America, but I don’t agree with how he chose to express it, but that’s all it was. A peaceful expression of his opinion. So can we please stop with the death threats and the racial slurs and just get back to what really matters… watching gigantic, freakish men in arbitrarily significant uniforms give each other gradual brain damage for the pursuit of our entertainment?”

Principal of Chicago's #1 Rated School Writes Be-All-End-All Resignation Letter to Rahm Emanuel

A much-needed takedown of education "reformers" in both parties.

Troy Anthony LaRaviere was, until this week, the principal of Chicago Magazine’s #1 neighborhood school, Blaine Elementary School. LaRaviere became the principal of Blaine back in 2010, saying he would bring the 6th ranked school to the top of the list and he would use empirical evidence to support the school practices he and his fellow educators applied to their student body.

About two years into his tenure, after dealing quietly with the mountains of bullshit that Chicago Public Schools (CPS) get from up high, he began speaking out about his misgivings with what he felt was mismanagement. When Emanuel announced sweeping budget cuts to education a couple of years ago, Troy LaRaviere publicly criticized Emanuel and others. This led to LaRaviere being chastised publicly, and the beginnings of a campaign to oust LaRaviere began, you know, corporate gangster-style.

Troy LaRaviere has been battling, on principle, to stay principal the past couple of months, but the announcement of his school’s success—in a publication that Emanuel and others laud—LaRaviere was given the opportunity to resign on his terms and in an open letter addressed to Mayor Rahm Emanuel. It’s one of the best pieces of writing on public education and the fundamental problems with education “reformers” in both the Republican and more importantly the Democratic Party. On his school’s accomplishments LaRaviere writes:

***Behind this significant accomplishment are a series of basic concepts based on empirical evidence regarding effective school practices and thoughtful consideration of how we might apply those practices at Blaine. One fundamental element of improving the school was ending selective access to advanced curriculum. When I arrived, less than 30% of students had access to it; today more than 90% have access. As is the case with most CPS schools, Blaine has a talented hard working staff. Another critical element of our success was to involve that staff in an effort to create systems, relationships, and patterns of collaborative activity that are proven to improve teacher performance, and therefore improve student achievement. In many ways, that was the easy part.

The difficult part was mustering the will and stamina to remain steadfast in our commitment to use evidence-based practice in the face of tremendous pressure–from politicians like you–to adopt baseless “school reform” ideas like “tracking” (school based selective enrollment), “choice,” and the over-evaluation of teachers; ideas that are grounded in ideology and politics as opposed to proven effective educational methods. In a word, the biggest obstacle to Blaine becoming the #1 neighborhood school in Chicago was politics. And while many people contributed to this problem, nobody in our great city is more responsible for that political obstruction than you.

LaRaviere hoped for a while that his, and the example of others, would help get Rahm and other “reformers” to see that there were tangible benefits to listening to actual educators about...education.***

Leaked 2015 Memo Told Dems: ‘Don’t Offer Support’ For Black Lives Matter..(*double post)

....*Policy Positions.

The memo lists several suggestions for how Democratic congressional candidates should handle an encounter with a Black Lives Matter activist.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/dnc-black-lives-matter-memo_us_57c6f80de4b078581f1072ca?section=&

WASHINGTON ― “Don’t offer support” for the “concrete policy positions” of Black Lives Matter protesters, the chief organization charged with electing Democrats to the House of Representatives warned its candidates in an internal memo leaked online on Wednesday.

The document was posted online by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker who has claimed to be responsible for the Democratic National Committee email leak. Guccifer claims the document is from the personal computer of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). A number of cybersecurity firms and Democrats have attributed the leaks to Russian hackers (though Guccifer 2.0 has denied working for the Kremlin).

“Presidential candidates have struggled to respond to tactics of the Black Lives Matter movement,” reads the memo, sent by a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee staffer in November. “While there has been little engagement with House candidates, candidates and campaign staff should be prepared. This document should not be emailed or handed to anyone outside of the building. Please only give campaign staff these best practices in meetings or over the phone.”

Black Lives Matter has become a force during the 2016 election by repeatedly calling on presidential candidates to address the systemic inequalities faced by black Americans. The movement has offered policy suggestions, held demonstrations and interrupted presidential campaign speeches in order to call attention to anti-black racism.

Pelosi’s office declined to comment on the leak.

WATCH: Clinton advisor scorches MSNBC’s Chuck Todd for pushing right-wing theories about foundation

PLEASE Watch Video - - -> https://vid.me/W3fN

A senior advisor to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign lit into MSNBC host Chuck Todd on Wednesday, accusing him of peddling in right-wing conspiracy theories surrounding her charitable foundation.

“Nobody, Democrat or Republican, raised a question about Neal Bush, the second President Bush’s brother, remaining on the board of the Points of Light foundation because these foundations are charitable organizations that are helping people who aren’t getting help from other places. What is going on here?” Joel Benenson asked Todd. “We are so politicized that we’ll listen to fringe elements like Steve Bannon, and the stuff he’s peddling to Donald Trump.”

Bannon, the former executive chairman of Breitbart News, became Trump’s campaign chief earlier this month. .

“Joel, it was Democrats — people working for President Obama — that were concerned of the optics,” Todd countered. “As Dick Lugar said, it’s not about the good intentions of President Clinton and Secretary Clinton. But the person giving the money may think it gives them something regardless, and that’s a bad thing.”
