Good News Network: Happy 60th birthday to you, Meg Ryan!

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/events061119/

Meg was born on November 19, 1961

'Happy 60th Birthday to Meg Ryan, the actress and director who starred in the most successful romantic comedies of the 90s and 2000s—films like Sleepless in Seattle, French Kiss, You’ve Got Mail, and Kate & Leopold.

Earlier, she appeared in the box office hit Top Gun, and achieved recognition in independent films such as Promised Land, but it was her performance in the 1989 Rob Reiner-directed comedy When Harry Met Sally that brought her worldwide attention and her first of three Golden Globe nominations.

Meg’s other films include Courage Under Fire (1996) with Denzel Washington, City of Angels (1998) with Nic Cage, and Proof of Life (2000) with Russell Crowe (1961). She made her directing debut in 2016 with Ithaca, starring Sam Shepard and her long-time costar Tom Hanks.

Living in California, Meg is marking her milestone birthday with a low-key celebration surrounded by close friends and family, including her daughter, Daisy Ryan, 17, and son, Jack Quaid, 29. “I love my age. I love my life right now. I love the person I’ve become,” she gushed to a reporter.'

Gush on, Meg! I look forward to seeing you on the big screen and TV. There's a bit
more text and photos at the link.

BBC: Your pictures of Scotland: 12-19 November (2021)

It's another fine collection of photos today.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-59262318

Some notes:
1) one photo caption includes a reference url. When I went to it I got '404-not found'
2) one caption of a photo of colorful fallen leaves refers to an 'acer' which is a type of tree that I found worth looking up
https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=is+an+%27acer%27+a+type+of+tree+in+scotland&ia=web
3) one photo caption references sultanas left out for the birds and sultanas are any
green seedless grape (I've read about them in Terry Pratchett's books.)

So enjoy! Yes, I take my photos seriously and want to make each experience easy
on anyone with an interest.

Get ready for The Full Moon Fever tomorrow, November 19, 2021 at 1:59 am MST*

*MST: Mountain Standard Time here in the U.S.

November: Beaver Moon

According to folklore, the Full Moon in November is named after beavers who become active while preparing for the winter. It is also known as Frosty Moon, and along with the December Full Moon some called it Oak Moon. Traditionally, if the Beaver Moon is the last Full Moon before the winter solstice, it is also called the Mourning Moon.

It is interesting for me to see photos of faces matched to names in this trial that has

CBC*: 'Residential school records once held in Canada now in Rome...

...Historians worry some records were destroyed or are hidden.'
*Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/residential-school-records-now-in-rome-researchers-survivors-concerned-1.6241449

"Researchers in Ottawa have uncovered new evidence to suggest some archival records relating to residential schools in Canada are now only available in Rome, prompting renewed calls for the Vatican to release historic documents that could help piece together what happened to the Indigenous children who were forced to attend the 48 residential schools once run by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

"The records that we had looked at here are no longer in this country," said Brenda Macdougall, a professor and research chair in Métis family and community traditions at the University of Ottawa.

"Those records belong to Canada. They belong to the people first and foremost. … They have to come back through subpoena or the church. The Pope himself can suspend canonical law and return them."

Historians also tell CBC they were alarmed to witness some old materials from the Oblates' former headquarters in Ottawa thrown out in a dumpster about seven years ago."

Of course the residential schools and the missing records refer to a system of
schools mostly operated by the Catholic Church in Canada. There has been much
news lately about the many unmarked graves found at some of these sites while
the search continues to document the full extent of what is certainly a crime.

There's much more text and photos at the link. I personally take a cynical view of
religion in general and some religions in particular. I advocate for truth, justice
and healing.
