The GOP is Plowing Ahead with an Audacious Effort to Hijack the Vote and Rig Elections

Alternet.org
September 15, 2017

The Republican Party's efforts to disrupt voting and thwart representative government was on full display this past week, when despite ridicule in the press, the GOP's leading proponents of undermining voters and rigging elections were unbowed and forged ahead.

First came Kris Kobach's willfully incorrect - but headline-grabbing - accusation on Breitbart.com that more than 5,000 people illegally voted last fall in New Hampshire, delivering an Electoral College victory to Hillary Clinton and a U.S. Senate seat to a Democrat.

Kobach, an attorney who's anti-immigrant activism launched his career, is the Kansas Secretary of State, a current gubernatorial candidate, and co-chair of President Trump's Orwellian-titled "election integrity" commission.
Kobach was caught mangling some Republican-produced data about New Hampshire college students who were perfectly legal voters to make his false claim about presumed Democrats voting illegally.

Kobach's antipathy toward non-natives voting is nothing new.
He has been repeatedly sued in Kansas over adding qualifications to the state voter registration form, including targeting out-of-state voters who have moved there.
That creates new barriers to vote in local and state elections.
Kobach's anti-democratic partisanship was in sync with another clumsy display this week from another outspoken voter suppressor on Trump's election panel, Hans von Spakovsky.
Now at the Heritage Foundation, Spakovsky led the second Bush administration's voter fraud crusade at the Justice Department, and was caught lying about his email lobbying to keep Democrats from being on Trump's panel.

Urge Louisiana Gov. John Bell Edwards to Help Tony the Tiger

Animal Legal Defense Fund
September 14, 2017

Tony, a Siberian-Bengal tiger, has endured a life of captivity at the Tiger Truck Stop in
Grosse Tete, Louisiana.

Held captive in a cage in a gas station parking lot, Tony lives with the stench of exhaust and the drone of diesel engines, and has no escape from the taunts of passersby.
After 17 years of captivity, Tony's health appears to be in decline.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund has been fighting to free Tony since 2011, but Tony's captor, Michael Sandin, is doing everything he can to keep Tony on display as a "roadside attraction," even though a reputable animal sanctuary is ready to give Tony the environment and veterinary care he needs.

A life of psychological and physical distress is taking it's toll on Tony.
It's critical that we take every possible path to free him and let him live out his life at a reputable sanctuary where he can enjoy the space, environment, and veterinary care he deserves.

Sign the petition urging Louisiana's governor to take all possible action to protect Tony and ensure that no other big cats reside at the truck stop in the future.

The petition reads as follows:

"Tony, a Siberian-Bengal tiger, has been forced to spend his entire life behind bars, a prisoner at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana.
It is unconscionable that one person, Michael Sandin, manipulated Louisiana law and used his personal connections to secure an exemption from the state's ban on private possession of big cats.
Sandin, Tony's captor, has a history of animal welfare violations.
I ask that you do everything in your power to see that Tony is released to a sanctuary where he can get the care he needs and live out his remaining days in peace in a natural setting with the veterinary care he requires."

Trump Press Secretary: "Feds Should Consider Prosecuting Comey"

The Hill
September 12, 2017

President Trump's top spokesperson said Tuesday that federal prosecutors should consider bringing a case against former FBI Director James Comey.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at a press briefing Tuesday that it's up to the Justice Department to prosecute Comey, but the move "should be looked at."

"I think if there was ever a moment where we feel that someone has broken law, particularly if they are the head of the FBI, I think that's certainly something that should be looked at," Sanders said.

It is unusual for the White House to advise the Justice Department on what cases to examine.
Sanders said that she's "not here to ever direct DOJ into actions."

Earlier this year, Comey testified before Congress that he arranged for his personal memos about his conversations with Trump to be shared with news outlets to ensure that a special prosecutor was appointed to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 election campaign.

The Sun Has Gone Wrong And Scientists Don't Know Why

Newsweek
September 8, 2017

If you still have your solar viewing glasses from the eclipse, now is a good time to slap them on and look up at the sun.
You'll see two big dark areas on our star.
These massive sunspots are regions of intense and complicated magnetic fields that can produce solar flares - bursts of high-energy radiation.
You can just make them out through solar viewing glasses, but they're better viewed through a solar telescope.

These two huge sunspots are currently causing quite a bit of consternation and interest.
The solar storms they sent toward Earth may affect communications and other technologies like GPS and radio signals.
They're causing amazing displays of the northern and southern lights.
And space weather scientists like us are excited because we wouldn't normally expect this much activity from the sun at the moment.

On September 6, the sun produced two massive X-class flares.
This is the category for the strongest of all solar flares.
NASA announced one was the most powerful since at least 2008.

(From Solarham.net, Monday, September 11, 2017)

Coronagraph imagery is now complete following the X8.2 solar flare on Sunday.
The full halo corona mass ejection (CME) was so powerful and widespread, there actually appears to be an Earth-directed component.

UPDATE:
According to the latest tracking models, the edge of the large CME may deliver a glancing blow to our geomagnetic field by September 13.

Ex-CIA official explains why Trump's "pee tape" escapades are probably real

Raw Story
September 6, 2017

The 35-page dossier detailing President Donald Trump's alleged links to Russia - and it's most lurid claim - is generally credible, according to a new analysis.

Former CIA station chief John Sipher published his analysis on "Just Security," where he weighed information gathered by former British spy Christopher Steele against standard Russian intelligence practices and information that has been revealed since the final report.

"One large portion of the dossier is crystal clear, certain, consistent and corroborated," Sipher wrote.
"Russia's goal all along has been to do damage to America and our leadership role in the world.
Also, the methods described in the report fit the Russians to a tee.
If the remainder of the report is largely true, Russia has a powerful weapon to help achieve it's goal."

The Kremlin benefits from confusion and uncertainty, even if Steele's report was largely false, and he said that "political churn" was stirred by Trump's efforts to hide his ties to Russia.

"The administration could help cauterize the damage by being honest, transparent and assisting those looking into the matter," Sipher wrote.
"Sadly, the president has done the opposite, ensuring a Russian win no matter what."

Three monks walk into a cave

A few months pass and there's a noise outside the cave.

Six months of silence follows and the first monk says: "Did you hear that goat?"

A year of silence follows when the second monk says: "That wasn't a goat, it was a cow."

Two years later the third monk says: "If you two are going to keep arguing, I'm leaving!"
