Dashcam video of wobbly judge turns up after her DWI case is dismissed for ‘lack of evidence’

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/12/dashcam-video-of-wobbly-judge-turns-up-after-her-dwi-case-is-dismissed-for-lack-of-evidence/

Citizens of a Texas border town are incensed after dashcam footage shows that a judge whose DWI charge was dropped for lack of evidence clearly failed a field sobriety test, KGBT reports.

Thirteenth Court of Appeals Justice Nora Longoria was arrested in July on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

According to the police report, Longoria was driving 70 mph in a 55-mph zone. When the officer pulled her over, she slurred her speech and smelled of alcohol, so he administered a field sobriety test — which she failed.

Longoria begged the officer to “please let me go home. I live a couple of miles away. You are going to ruin my life. I worked hard for 25 years to be where I am today.” She then refused to be handcuffed, allegedly telling the officer that if he wanted to arrest her, he would have to drag her to his patrol car.

When she went into court in November, however, Judge Rolando Cantu dismissed the charges because prosecutor Rene Guerra said that the district attorney’s office didn’t have enough evidence to prosecute — because there was no dashcam footage of her arrest.

On Friday, however, McAllen police released the dashcam video from the night of Longoria’s arrest, and in it she can clearly be seen yelling at the officer and struggling to walk in a straight line.

McAllen police claimed to be unaware of why the prosecution in Longoria’s case did not have the footage.

Chicago 6-year-old fatally shot in head watching cartoons, just months after mom gunned down

6-year-old Chicago boy died over the weekend after he was accidentally shot in the head while he was watching cartoons.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Michael Cattron was watching cartoons on Saturday night with several younger relatives when his 46-year-old father stepped outside to smoke a cigarette.

“He heard a popping sound, a boom. One boom,” grandfather Pierre Curry explained. “He came inside and saw him lying in front of the TV.”

“It just tore me up,” Curry added. “I kissed him and told him I loved him, but the way he looked, I couldn’t take it.”

Details of the shooting were not immediately clear.

Grandmother Latonia Mardis told WLS that “Michael went into a room, went through some boxes, found a gun and shot himself in the head. Now he’s dead,”

Other reports suggested that the boy had been shot in the head by his young cousin.

In July, Curry’s mother, Jasmine, also died when she was mistakenly shot to death while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway. She was pregnant at the time. Her 17-year-old son, Pierce Leroy Curry, was killed by gunfire in August of last year. Another 20-year-old son had died naturally from an illness in October.

CIA torture report: spy agency braces for global impact of inquiry as release date nears

The CIA is bracing for what could be one of the most damaging moments in its history: a public airing of its post-9/11 embrace of torture.

The Senate intelligence committee is poised to release a landmark inquiry into torture as early as Tuesday, after the Obama administration made a last-ditch effort to suppress a report that has plunged relations between the CIA and its Senate overseer to a historic low point.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Monday the administration welcomed the release of the report, but warned US interests overseas were at risk of potentially violent reactions to its contents.

The release of the torture report will represent the third major airing of faulty CIA intelligence in 15 years, following official commissions into the 9/11 plot and Saddam Hussein’s defunct illicit weapons programs.

Despite months of negotiation over how much of the 6,000-page report will be declassified, most of its findings will never see the light of the day. But even a partial release of the report will yield a furious response from the CIA and its allies.

On Sunday, George W Bush made a show of support for CIA operatives who had participated in torture, calling them “patriots”.

“We’re fortunate to have men and women who work hard at the CIA serving on our behalf,” he told CNN. “These are patriots and whatever the report says, if it diminishes their contributions to our country, it is way off base.”

The Senate report is likely to attract global attention, owing to the CIA’s network of unacknowledged prisons in places like Poland, Thailand and Afghanistan.
