I have held on to my 10 -yr old computer for as long as I can-- questions re buying next one.

I am totally not computer literate, (69 years old - and altho I know people older than myself who are - I am not) and have no grand-kids to ask for help.

So some questions (and if you need more info, just ask. I may not be supplying enough info.)

1. My present, about to be ex, is a desk-top, dell, XP.
I have been very happy with it and would gladly keep it another 10 years, but as you can imagine-- it is able to do very little these days.

I want another desk-top.
I THINK I have no choice except to get Windows -10, is that right?
I am very fearful of learning something so different from XP.

2. What are the chances if I go into a store and just buy a desk-top which meets my $ requirements - that I will do OK?
Do I really have to do a lot of research?

I have a computer guy who has helped me a lot with this computer,
I have thought about asking him to help me buy a new one- but he charges $40.00/hour, and I'm not even sure what I'd be asking him.

any and all feed-back appreciated.

25,000 Dalits protest attacks against them

I find this interesting.. I have not heard of protests before, altho there may well have been- they certainly don't make the news here.

"India low-caste Dalits protest over Gujarat attacks"

About 25,000 member of India's low-caste Dalit community have rallied in the western state of Gujarat in protest at attacks on their members.
Anger among Dalits has been mounting since four young men were stripped and beaten in public as they took a dead cow for skinning earlier this month.
Protesters pledged to boycott some of their traditional tasks, including the disposal of dead animals and manual cleaning of sewers.
Cows are considered sacred by Hindus.
Killing them is banned in Gujarat, although villagers said the animal that sparked the attack on the youths had died of natural causes.

did anyone see that Alex Jones spoke at the RNC?

LOL, he is the wackiest among all the wackies.
If you don't know him, he runs "Inforwars", and he thinks the lizard people are taking over the world.

I have a question on Amazon Fire tablet

based on recs a long time ago, probably on this group, I sought out an Amazon Fire today at staples.
well, the person "working" there was too uninterested in my questions so I'd like to put them to anyone here who might have an opinion...
The guy told me that this was a demo model so it didn't have an operating system.
But that I could get an app to install one.
and it uses amazon's own operating system.

so is this true?
and what do you think about the OS?

thanks.

oh the model is the one that is $50.00. apparently that is a good bargain.

Chicago: Protesters shut down the Dan Ryan

Protesters are marched in Chicago and across the country Thursday in response to the recent police involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Big crowds gathered in Times Square in New York and protesters stormed the capitol in Washington.

In Chicago, demonstrators caused big disruptions in traffic. Two college students organized the protest on social media.
Police say there were no arrests here, but at one point, the crowd stopped traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Several more protests are in the works including one planned for Saturday at the Taste of Chicago and another economic boycott on Michigan Ave later this month.
