President Obama praises Kamala Harris VP Pick "Joe Biden nailed this decision"

Full statement:
Choosing a vice president is the first important decision a president makes. When youíre in the Oval Office, weighing the toughest issues, and the choice you make will affect the lives and livelihoods of the entire country Ė you need someone with you whoís got the judgment and the character to make the right call. Someone whose focus goes beyond self-interest to consider the lives and prospects of others.

Joe Biden nailed this decision. By choosing Senator Kamala Harris as Americaís next vice president, heís underscored his own judgment and character. Reality shows us that these attributes are not optional in a president. Theyíre requirements of the job. And now Joe has an ideal partner to help him tackle the very real challenges America faces right now and in the years ahead.

Iíve known Senator Harris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job. Sheís spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake. Her own life story is one that I and so many others can see ourselves in: a story that says that no matter where you come from, what you look like, how you worship, or who you love, thereís a place for you here. Itís a fundamentally American perspective, one thatís led us out of the hardest times before. And itís a perspective we can all rally behind right now.

Michelle and I couldnít be more thrilled for Kamala, Doug, Cole, and Ella.
This is a good day for our country.
Now letís go win this thing.

Kamala Harris' Formal Acceptance, In Her Own Words

Posted by Kamala Harris on Facebook

I am coming to you today with some big news: Iím honored to join Joe Biden in the fight for the soul of our country as the Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee. Joe is a leader who can unify the American people, because he's spent his life fighting for the American people. And as president, he will build an America that lives up to our ideals.

My mom and dad, like so many other immigrants, came to this country for an education. My mother from India and my dad from Jamaica. And the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s brought them together. Some of my earliest memories are from that time: My parents being attacked by police with hoses, fleeing for safety, with me strapped tightly in my stroller.

That spirit of activism is why my mother, Shyamala, would always tell my sister and me, ďDonít just sit around and complain about things. Do something.Ē

Thatís why I became a District Attorney and fought to fix a broken system from within. Why I served as Californiaís Attorney General. Why Iím proud to represent my state as a U.S. Senator. And itís why, today, Iím humbled to be joining Joe Biden in the battle to defeat Donald Trump and build a country that lives up to our values of truth, equality, and justice.

I know that winning this race will be tougher than anything Iíve faced before, but Iíve never been more ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. Donald Trump thinks this country belongs to him. But Joe Biden knows it belongs to all of us. To the people.

And together, the people are going to take it back.

Joe Biden's Praise For Kamala Harris, In His Own Words

You make a lot of important decisions as president. But the first one is who you select to be your Vice President. Iíve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021.

These arenít normal times. For the first time in our history, weíre facing three historic crises -- all at the same time. Weíre facing the worst pandemic in 100 years. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The most powerful calls for racial justice in a generation. And we have a president who has both failed to lead on the virus -- costing lives and decimating our economy -- and fanned the flames of hate and division.

I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person.

I need someone who understands the pain that so many people in our nation are suffering. Whether theyíve lost their job, their business, a loved one to this virus. This president says he ďdoesnít want to be distracted by itĒ. He doesnít understand that taking care of the people of this nation -- all the people -- isnít a distraction -- itís the job. Kamala understands that.

I need someone who understands that we are in a battle for the soul of this nation. And that if weíre going to get through these crises -- we need to come together and unite for a better America. Kamala gets that.

If Iím President, Iím committed to making things better -- not just in the short term, but sustainably, structurally, and permanently. We wonít have time to delay. I need a partner who can help deliver on those promises, and quickly.

I was privileged to serve this nation for two terms as Vice President alongside President Obama, a man of extraordinary character who I believe will go down in history as one of our great presidents.

So, I know a thing or two about being Vice President. More than anything, I know it canít be a political decision. It has to be a governing decision. If the people of this nation entrust me and Kamala with the office of President and Vice President for the next four years, weíre going to inherit a nation in crisis, a nation divided, and a world in disarray. We wonít have a minute to waste.
Thatís what led me to Kamala Harris.

As a United States Senator from California, Kamala represents the biggest state in the union. Sheís been one of the toughest and most effective Senators on two of the most important committees in the Senate -- Intelligence and Judiciary. Two committees that have directly dealt with some of the most important issues facing this nation at home and around the world.

She sits on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, where she deals with the nationís most sensitive threats.

Weíve all watched her hold the Trump administration accountable for its corruption, stand up to a Justice Department thatís run amok, and be a powerful voice against their extreme nominations.
Sheís been a leader on criminal justice and marriage equality. And she has focused like a laser on the racial disparities as a result of the coronavirus.

As Californiaís Attorney General, she led one of the biggest legal departments in the nation -- where she was a powerful advocate for people in taking on the big banks and protecting women and kids from abuse. Sheís delivered billions in settlement money to consumers, taking on companies for fraud, pollution and abuse.

I first met Kamala through my son Beau. They were both Attorneys General at the same time. He had enormous respect for her and her work. I thought a lot about that as I made this decision. There is no oneís opinion I valued more than Beauís and Iím proud to have Kamala standing with me on this campaign.

Her record of accomplishment -- fighting tooth and nail for whatís right -- is why Iím choosing her. There is no door Kamala wonít knock on, no stone sheíll leave unturned, if it means making life better -- for the people.

So join me today in welcoming Kamala Harris to our team.

She will wake up every day -- like I will -- thinking about how to make life better for people. How to rebuild our country back better. How to make it more just. How to win the next fight in the battle for the soul of this nation.

Because thatís what the Presidency -- and the Vice Presidency -- is. Itís a duty to care: for you, for all of us.

This will be the fight of our administration, and thereís no better partner that I could have asked for.

The Vice President and California's Attorney General are coming for you, Trump!
