Alarmed by soaring infection rates in nearly a dozen New York ZIP codes, Gov. Andrew Cuomo felt compelled to hold a second conference call in two hours Monday to discuss the clusters and warned drastic measures may come next.
Of 1,769 ZIP codes in the state, Cuomo said 10 are averaging an infection rate of about 15 percent compared with the overall statewide infection rate of 1.5 percent as of Monday. Those 10 ZIP codes account for 25 percent of the state's new daily cases despite representing just 2.9 percent of the state's population.
Cuomo stressed the state would immediately launch targeted outreach to those communities, as he did in his first call earlier Monday, and said his administration would make 200 rapid testing machines immediately available. He also called on local governments in the affected areas to reach out to the state for assistance.
Without improvement, he warned more "drastic alternatives" may be required to curb the spread, echoing recent warnings from New York City officials.

Ex-Trump Doc Suggests on Fox That Biden's on Drugs
Dr. Ronny Jackson, the former White House physician now running for Congress as a Trump-boosting Republican, showed up on Fox News on Monday night for the sole purpose of backing President Donald Trump’s baseless accusation that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is taking secret memory-enhancing drugs to assist his debate performance.
Over the past year, Fox News host Sean Hannity—an informal adviser and close confidant of Trump’s—has been at the forefront of conservative media’s portrayal of Biden as a senile gaffe-machine suffering from severe cognitive decline. The president has latched onto this line of attack, describing the former vice president as “Sleepy Joe” while regularly claiming Biden doesn’t possess the mental fitness for office.
With the first presidential debate approaching, however, the president has started to reset expectations for the ex-veep’s performance. Over the past several weeks, Trump has suddenly begun accusing Biden of taking some mysterious performance-enhancing drug that can boost his memory and cognitive abilities, calling for Biden to be drug-tested before Tuesday’s debate.
During Monday’s broadcast of Hannity’s primetime Fox News program, the host spent the majority of his opening monologue discussing the upcoming debate while replaying his attacks on Biden’s mental acuity and cognitive abilities. At the same time, Hannity suggested the presidential hopeful could have a good debate performance because he’s been preparing “all summer.”
Hannity then turned to Jackson, the former White House doctor who once said Trump could live to 200 if he changed his diet because he has “good genes,” to openly speculate about whether Biden is on a memory-assisting PED.

U.S. pension funds sue Allianz after $4 billion in coronavirus losses
FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Pension funds for truckers, teachers and subway workers have lodged lawsuits in the United States against Germany’s Allianz, one of the world’s top asset managers, for failing to safeguard their investments during the coronavirus market meltdown.
Market panic around the virus that resulted in billions in losses earlier this year scarred many investors, but no other top-tier asset manager is facing such a large number of lawsuits in the United States connected to the turbulence.
In March, Allianz ALVG.DE was forced to shutter two private hedge funds after severe losses, prompting the wave of litigation the company says is "legally and factually flawed".
Together, the various suits filed in the U.S. Southern District of New York claim investors lost a total of around $4 billion. The fallout has also prompted questions from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Allianz has said.

Meatpackers deny workers benefits for COVID-19 deaths, illnesses
(Reuters) - Saul Sanchez died in April, one of six workers with fatal COVID-19 infections at meatpacker JBS USA’s slaughterhouse in Greeley, Colorado, the site of one of the earliest and deadliest coronavirus outbreaks at a U.S. meatpacking plant.
Before getting sick, the 78-year-old Sanchez only left home to work on the fabrication line, where cattle carcasses are sliced into cuts of beef, and to go to his church, with its five-person congregation, said his daughter, Betty Rangel. She said no one else got infected in the family or at Bible Missionary Church, which could not be reached for comment.
JBS, the world’s largest meatpacker, denied the family’s application for workers’ compensation benefits, along with those filed by the families of two other Greeley workers who died of COVID-19, said lawyers handling the three claims. Families of the three other Greeley workers who died also sought compensation, a union representative said, but Reuters could not determine the status of their claims.
JBS has said the employees’ COVID-19 infections were not work-related in denying the claims, according to responses the company gave to employees, which were reviewed by Reuters.

U.S. judge to weigh whether to drop criminal case against ex-Trump adviser Flynn
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday will weigh whether to grant a request by the Justice Department to dismiss a criminal charge against President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn in a highly anticipated court hearing.
The hearing will pit the Justice Department and Flynn’s defense attorneys against John Gleeson, a former trial judge who was tapped by U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan to argue against the government’s position that the case should be dropped.
Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, was charged under former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation that detailed Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election to boost Trump’s candidacy.
Flynn pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI about his conversations with then-Ambassador Sergey Kislyak before Trump took office concerning U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia under President Barack Obama.

What We Can Do About Trump's Tax Returns
The Great Recession was a time of hardship for millions of Americans experiencing lost jobs, stolen homes, and mass suffering. But when Donald Trump thinks back to this terrible time in American history, his eyes must light up. Government measures taken to speed recovery earned him hundreds of millions of dollars in tax benefits.
A good chunk of that is the subject of a fierce IRS audit right now. But you’re right to wonder why the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (commonly known as the stimulus package), intended to pull the nation’s unemployed and underemployed back into the workforce, managed to bestow so much benefit on a failed businessman who played a tycoon on TV.
The answer goes beyond the Recovery Act. The U.S. tax code has been mangled in bipartisan fashion to serve the powerful. If members of Congress ever managed to separate themselves from their paymasters, they could easily fix this, and end the serial cheating of which Trump is only the most aggressive avatar. That ought to be the primary response to this bombshell.
Let’s look at those Recovery Act provisions. The first is known as the cancellation of debt income (CODI) rule. It was designed to encourage businesses to restructure debts without taking a tax hit. Canceled debt that often is a by-product of such restructuring is usually treated as income, but under the CODI rule, that income would be deferred for five years, and then spread out over the next five.

Trump Owes Hundreds of Millions to Russia Top Mueller Attorney Strongly Suggests
The name Andrew Weissmann might ring a bell.
He’s a former top Mueller attorney who worked with the Special Counsel on the Russia report.

Weissmann just weighed in on the New York Times bombshell report that finds, among other staggering facts, that in 2016 and 2017 President Donald Trump paid just $750 in federal taxes.
It also finds Trump paid zero in taxes for 15 out of 20 years.
And it finds that Trump is in debt, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars to an unknown entity. $421 million in debt, and the bill is coming due in the next few years.
Weissmann strongly suggests that entity is Russia.

Forbes Adds It Up: Trump Is $1.1 Billion in Debt
Forbes says President Donald Trump is a billionaire, but he’s more than a billion dollars in debt.
The New York Times Sunday evening dropped a bombshell investigation into Trump’s taxes, after having obtained twenty years of his returns. The Times reported Trump is $421 million in debt to an unknown entity.
(One former top Mueller team attorney just strongly suggested that entity is Russia.)
Now, Forbes senior editor Dan Alexander, whose beat is covering Trump, reveals the President of the United States is $1.13 billion in debt.
That’s billion with a “b.”

Lockheed Martin facility mishandled toxins, created 'environmental nightmare,' lawsuit claims
Defense giant Lockheed Martin created an “environmental nightmare” at its facility off Sand Lake Road by mismanaging hazardous toxins, which contaminated nearby workers who were later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, brain lesions, cancer and other diseases, newly filed lawsuits say.
Orlando attorney John Morgan said his firm filed two complaints Monday in federal court, including a class-action lawsuit, against Lockheed Martin on behalf of Golf Channel employees who worked close to the site in Tangelo Park, as well as area residents.
One family suing Lockheed Martin said their son was born prematurely with deformities, including missing tear ducts, and has “lived in constant discomfort to breathe,” according to the lawsuit.
“If a company puts profits over the health and safety of people, lives are destroyed,” Morgan said in a statement after a virtual press conference. “We allege that Lockheed Martin may have hurt the health and wellbeing of our clients, and everyone who lives and works near this facility. We allege that Lockheed Martin knew the harm their actions could cause and did it anyway.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis expects 'full Super Bowl' in Florida next year
While announcing Phase 3 of Florida's COVID-19 economic reopening on Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he expects Tampa to host the Super Bowl next year, as planned.
"We're going to be able to host the Super Bowl in February. We expect to do a full Super Bowl," DeSantis insisted. "We're going to show that we're going to be able to do that."
The governor added he believes outdoor transmission has not been a "major factor" in spreading the coronavirus, even as the state reached 700,000 overall cases since March.
Florida's new cases peaked in July and have since grown by between 1,000 and 3,000 cases most days in the past week.
