About Me

I got the nickname Ron Obvious because -- in addition to being a huge Python fan -- my name really is Ron and I used to start sentences with \"Obviously\" a lot. Obviously, that\'s no longer a problem.

Did you know Euro 2016 is exactly two weeks away only?

I think I'm suffering a bit of football fatigue and I think the tournament has too many teams anyway (best 3d place finishers -- yuck!!!), but maybe I'll get excited once it gets started. Predictions in the next post.

Round of 16 kicks off

Happy 75th Birthday, Saddam Hussein!

Oh no, wait! That's actually Eric Cantona, and he's turning 50. What the hell happened to him?

Eric Cantona turned 50 on Tuesday and is still doing what he has always done best: playing the part of Eric Cantona to a T. For Manchester United fans still digesting the end of the soured Louis van Gaal era and the imminent arrival of José Mourinho, he has a simple diagnosis of what has gone wrong.

“They miss me,” Cantona says, playful but serious at the same time. “I think they have lost something. You can feel it. But it’s difficult to come after someone who has been at the club 25 years. Even if you are a great manager, the fans still feel the philosophy of Ferguson.”

Dr Henry Heimlich uses Heimlich manoeuvre for first time, aged 96

I had no idea this guy was even still alive. Cool story.

The 96-year-old surgeon credited with developing his namesake Heimlich manoeuvre recently used the emergency technique for the first time himself to save a woman choking on food at his retirement home.

Dr Henry Heimlich told the Cincinnati Enquirer in an interview on Thursday that he has demonstrated the well-known manoeuvre many times through the years but had never before used it on a person who was choking.

<snip>

Heimlich said it made him appreciate how wonderful it had been “to be able to save all those lives”.
