It has been suggested the US adopt control ideas from other countries. One suggestion has been licensing such as some have-
A person must have a firearm licence to possess or use a firearm. Licence holders must demonstrate a "genuine reason" (which does not include self-defence)
Question- why is it acceptable for a criminal to use lethal force but not the victim?
Wisconsin to Iowa- "Hold my beer, kid"
Iowa Senate votes to allow 16- and 17-year-olds to serve alcoholhttps://www.democraticunderground.com/100217837646
Fourteen-year-olds in Wisconsin could serve alcohol to seated customers in bars and restaurants under a bill circulated for cosponsors Monday by a pair of Republican state lawmakers.
Under current law, only workers age 18 and above can serve alcohol to customers in Wisconsin. The bill would broaden that to workers ages 14 to 17. They could only serve to seated customers, not drinkers who are at the bar itself.
The current age limit on serving alcohol causes workforce issues due to an establishments underage employees only being able to do part of their job, the bill sponsors Sen. Rob Stafsholt, of New Richmond, and Rep. Chanz Green, of Grandview, said in a memo circulated Monday seeking cosponsors.
They said their idea creates a simple solution to the states workforce shortage problems in the food and beverage industry. The bill requires the licensed operator of the bar or restaurant be on the premises and supervising.
'By far the most dangerous situation I've ever been in': Customer films entire restaurant standing f
A TikTokers video of a restaurant playing the national anthem is sparking debate on the popular social media platform.
Paulina (@paulinappa_0) took the video at Rainbow Oaks Country Market in Fallbrook, California, which shows several diners standing up out of respect for the song. She found the situation to be dangerous and several other TikTok users also shared similar experiences they had at other restaurants, which they too found to be unnerving.
The clip starts off with Paulina recording her pancakes and then the interior of a restaurant. She stays seated in front of her meal as other patrons stand up and salute the flag as The Star-Spangled Banner plays on the establishments loudspeaker. Her camera pans to TV sets hanging on the walls that display animated graphics of American flags waving in the wind.
A caption for the post reads: By far the most dangerous situation Ive ever been in, followed by the #getout #illegal #whitepeoplethings hashtags.
Odd? Definitely

6 on NYC Council refuse to vote for 'End Jew Hatred Day'
Several Jewish New York City Council members expressed shock Thursday that six of their colleagues did not vote for a resolution to recognize April 29 annually as End Jew Hatred Day.
Two on the 51-member council voted against it, including one member who called her critics extremely rude and disrespectful for questioning her commitment to combating antisemitism. She said the resolution was associated with right-wing groups she could not support. A council member who abstained accused Jewish community leaders of failing to call out hatred against Palestinians and supporting apartheid in Israel.
He was among four members who abstained from the vote
Your antisemitism is showing, Inna Vernikov, the Jewish Brooklyn Republican who introduced the measure, told the six who did not support it.
She explained the resolution as a response to the Anti-Defamation Leagues recently released annual report, which showed a 52% increase in antisemitic incidents across the city last year compared to 2021. The audit counted 395 reported incidents of antisemitic vandalism, harassment or assault in New York City, including 66 reports of physical violence, 52 of them in heavily Orthodox-populated Brooklyn neighborhoods.

Warrant: Suspect killed in FBI standoff held gun to woman's head while leaving home
Federal agents shot and killed a man Thursday while executing an arrest warrant at a home in north Minneapolis, according to law enforcement officials.
A search warrant provided by the U.S. Attorneys Office identifies Chue Feng Yang, 33, as the subject of the FBI raid near Dupont and Dowling avenues. Agents fatally shot him when he left the house with a gun pointed at a womans head.
The search warrant, issued Thursday night, allows officers to look for evidence tying Yang to charges of assault on a federal officer or felon in possession of a firearm.
Federal agents also identified Yang as being involved in a carjacking and police chase in Little Canada on Jan. 30.
Coincidentally Tiffany Burns lives in the same neighborhood. Her brother, Jamar Clark, was killed by Minneapolis police in 2015, leading to several weeks of protests.
For me, its déjà vu all over again, said Burns. I would hope that things would get resolved in a matter where were not killing people in the process of issuing warrants or arresting. We can find ways to get people in custody or get people arrested without having to use deadly force.

Minneapolis woman's home seized by county; US Supreme Court to hear arguments Wednesday
Geraldine Tyler, now 94, lost her one-bedroom condo in Minneapolis over $2,300 in unpaid taxes, plus interest and penalties. Hennepin County sold the apartment for $40,000 and kept every penny.
Tylers lawyers say the county violated constitutional protections against having property taken without "just compensation" and excessive fines. The Supreme Court, which hears arguments Wednesday, will decide.
Minnesota is among roughly a dozen states and the District of Columbia that allow local jurisdictions to keep the excess money, according to the Pacific Legal Foundation, which is representing Tyler at the Supreme Court.
At least 8,950 homes were sold because of unpaid taxes and the former owners received little or nothing in those states between 2014 and 2021, according to Pacific Legal, a not-for-profit public interest law firm focused on property rights.

A Hennepin County womans property rights lawsuit is set to come before the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Geraldine Tyler, 94, lost her one-bedroom condo in Minneapolis over unpaid taxes, plus interest and penalties totaling around $15,000. Hennepin County sold the apartment for $40,000 and kept every penny.
Tyler is being represented by the national nonprofit Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), which calls the ordeal a case of home equity theft.
Minnesota is among roughly a dozen states and the District of Columbia that allow local jurisdictions to keep the excess money, according to PLF, which says Tylers case is one of nearly 9,000 between 2014 and 2021.

Dearborn Mayor makes history by marking Eid as paid holiday, recaps memorable month of Ramadan
As Thursday marked the last day of Ramadan for Muslims around the world, Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud is beginning a new tradition in the City of Dearborn, and it's a tradition that makes history.
"We gave our employees Eid Al-Fitr off, which is at the end of Ramadan, as well as Eid Al-Adha which is the Eid following the holy pilgrimage, both as paid holidays," Hammoud says.
Eid Al-Fitr, which takes place on Friday, follows the final day of fasting and celebrates the end of Ramadan.
When asked if he knew just how big a deal closing city hall on Eid would become, Hammoud says he did not know just how historic that move would become when negotiating it into the current collective bargaining agreement.
