Recount reverses Nashua state rep race results

CONCORD — The recount of ballots in Hillsborough District 28 (Nashua Ward 1) has Republican incumbent Elizabeth Ferreira beating Democrat Sylvia Gale by six votes, a reversal of the election night results.

The election night total had Gale winning the third of three representative spots for the Nashua ward, with 2,419 votes to Ferreira’s 2,413.

But the recount, the last of 14 conducted in state representative races, gave Ferreira a six-vote margin of victory, 2,240-to-2,414.

Some of the ballots are expected to be challenged before the Ballot Law Commission on Monday, which will also review the results of a close representative race in Ward 5, Manchester, where the recount flipped the result from Democrat Andrew Gregoire, to Republican Lisa Freeman.

If the Ferreira and Freeman victories hold, the GOP majority in the House will grow by one, from 225 to 226.

Of the 14 state representative recounts, three resulted in changes from election night results.

Trump turning away intelligence briefers since election win

Source: Trump turning away intelligence briefers since

By Greg Miller and Adam Entous November 23 at 6:22 PM

President-elect Donald Trump has received two classified intelligence briefings since his surprise election victory earlier this month, a frequency that is notably lower at least so far than that of his predecessors, current and former U.S. officials said.

A team of intelligence analysts has been prepared to deliver daily briefings on global developments and security threats to Trump in the two weeks since he won. Vice President-elect Mike Pence, by contrast, has set aside time for intelligence briefings almost every day since the election, officials said.

Officials involved in the Trump transition team cautioned against assigning any significance to the briefing schedule that the president-elect has set so far, noting that he has been immersed in the work of forming his administration, and has made filling key national security posts his top priority.

But others have interpreted Trumps limited engagement with his briefing team as an additional sign of indifference from a president-elect who has no meaningful experience on national security issues and was dismissive of U.S. intelligence agencies capabilities and findings during the campaign.......................

“Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the Mall for the inauguration,” Scaramucci added in the interview for “HARDtalk,” broadcast on Wednesday.

“Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inaugural,” the singer’s publicist, Fran Curtis, responded.

Dr. Jill Stein raising money to pay for a presidential election recount in Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -- Green Party Presidential Nominee Jill Stein is seeking to raise $2.5 million by late Friday afternoon in order to pay for presidential election recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania - three states narrowly won by Republican President-Elect Donald Trump.

On a fundraising page launched early Wednesday afternoon, the Stein campaign indicates it wants recounts in those three states because "data suggests significant discrepancies in vote totals."

Results show Trump won Wisconsin by 27,257 votes over Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton, a margin of just 1 percent.

According to WEC Administrator Mike Haas, the agency has no discretion on whether to conduct the recount if Stein's campaign pays for it - unless there is intervening court litigation to stop it..................

Donald Trump can get a tax break for his Trump U settlement

Doing Fraudulent business is an expense. Whow.

Donald Trump can get a tax break for his Trump U settlement

Last Updated Nov 22, 2016 5:30 PM EST

Donald Trump can deduct almost all of the $25 million settlement with former students of his defunct Trump University, settling class-action fraud lawsuits against the president-elect over the controversial real estate course.

The reason he can write off the money is that it is “an expense in the ordinary course of doing business,”
said Robert Willens, a New York-based tax consultant. Of the settlement payout, $24 million is earmarked for Trump University students, and another $1 million is a fine. It’s doubtful he could take the fine off his taxes, Willens said.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the $25 million total settlement on Friday. As Trump hustles to put together his new administration, he agreed to settle three civil actions seeking repayment for up to 7,000 students -- two lawsuits in California and Schneiderman’s in New York.

Many of the students will get back at least half their money,
lawyers in the settlement said. Some students paid as much as $35,000 to take the Trump-branded instruction. An administrator, selected by New York’s attorney general, will allocate the proceeds to the ex-students, with those who shelled out the most presumably getting more.

WASHINGTON — Days before the presidential election, James Alefantis, owner of a local pizza restaurant called Comet Ping Pong, noticed an unusual spike in the number of his Instagram followers.

Within hours, menacing messages like “we’re on to you” began appearing in his Instagram feed. In the ensuing days, hundreds of death threats — one read “I will kill you personally” — started arriving via texts, Facebook and Twitter.
All of them alleged something that made Mr. Alefantis’s jaw drop: that Comet Ping Pong was the home base of a child abuse ring led by Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief, John D. Podesta.

When Mr. Alefantis discovered that his employees were getting similar abusive messages, he looked online to unravel the accusations. He found dozens of made-up articles about Mrs. Clinton kidnapping, molesting and trafficking children in the restaurant’s back rooms. The articles appeared on Facebook and on websites such as The New Nationalist and The Vigilant Citizen, with one headline blaring: “Pizzagate: How 4Chan Uncovered the Sick World of Washington’s Occult Elite.”

None of it was true. While Mr. Alefantis has some prominent Democratic friends in Washington and was a supporter of Mrs. Clinton, he has never met her, does not sell or abuse children, and is not being investigated by law enforcement for any of these claims. He and his 40 employees had unwittingly become real people caught in the middle of a storm of fake news.

“From this insane, fabricated conspiracy theory, we’ve come under constant assault,” said Mr. Alefantis, 42, who was once in a relationship with David Brock, a provocative former right-wing journalist who became an outspoken advocate for Mrs. Clinton.
