Rep. Scott Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania, announced Tuesday that he’s refusing to comply with the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Perry, the first sitting member of Congress the panel has summoned, claimed in a series of tweets that the panel is “illegitimate, and not duly constituted under the rules of the US House of Representatives” before saying he was declining his colleagues’ request to speak with him.
Perry’s refusal comes a day after he bipartisan panel announced it had found evidence showing Perry, who has denied the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s victory, had “an important role” in installing former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark as the acting attorney general during the final months of Donald Trump’s presidency. Clark played a key role in the attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, bolstering Trump’s baseless claims that the election was rife with voter fraud.....................

Watters made his remarks Monday at the right-wing Turning Points USA conference where he gave students a playbook on how to record a viral moment that Fox News would air and that other right wing outlets would amplify.
"Now you go in for the kill shot. The kill shot? With an ambush? Deadly. Because he doesn't see it coming," Watters said.
Fauci reacted with shock to the "awful" comments on Tuesday, but also acknowledged that it's "very likely" Watters would go "unaccountable" at Fox News.
"The only thing that I have ever done throughout these two years is to encourage people to practice good public health practices: to get vaccinated, to be careful in public settings, to wear a mask," Fauci said on "New Day."......................................................................

State Issues Health Advisory on Omicron Variant Ahead of Holidays
Public health officials on Monday once again sounded the alarm about the growing number of coronavirus cases in the state, issuing a public health advisory about the growing Omicron variant and renewing their call for the unvaccinated to get the shot and wear masks when indoors and surrounded by people one doesn't live with.
Wisconsin’s seven-day average of new daily confirmed COVID-19 cases has grown to 3,294, reported Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake. That figure is nearly double where the state was two months ago. The state’s total confirmed deaths have reached 9,638. There are currently 19 confirmed Omicron cases in Wisconsin, and the variant last week accounted for 40% of the virus samples sequenced by the state Hygiene Lab.
“We are seeing daily case numbers that we haven’t seen since the end of last year. High rates of COVID-19 transmission are occurring in all Wisconsin counties, and that trajectory is growing,” Timberlake said Monday in a call with reporters, stressing that hospitals are still filling up. “We are at another critical moment in this pandemic … What each of us chooses to do in the next few weeks really matters.”
Dr. William Melms, chief medical officer for Marshfield Clinic Health System, noted that the only reason the number of COVID-19 patients in the network’s nine hospitals hasn’t grown even more is because so many of those patients are dying from the virus. "We just went through a four-week period here at our main hospital in Marshfield where we had 35 patients die of COVID," Melms said.

On Friday, a federal appeals court reinstated the Biden administration’s vaccine and testing requirement for private businesses, which affects about 80 million American workers.
CNBC reports, "The ruling by the 6th U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati lifted a November injunction that had blocked the rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which applies to businesses with at least 100 workers."

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) prompted rage among progressives after he told Fox News that he's tried everything he could but can't come to an agreement over the Build Back Better plan. The White House said that it wasn't what Manchin told them when they last spoke, but he's refusing to speak to them now.
The bill, known as the human infrastructure bill, would help families pay for caregivers, make the child tax credit permanent, add vision and dental care to Medicare and Medicaid and other benefits.

As Suzanne Malveaux explained, the bill is completely paid for. It would mean Manchin is either lying about his reasons or he's ignorant to the facts.
"They all tried to convince him to go along with them, needing the simple majority to pass this through," she explained. "He was the last hold out. They started off at $6 trillion, went to $3 trillion. And somewhere behind about $2 trillion to $1.75. He ultimately said $1.5 trillion really was the final offer. But he did express concern about the extension of the child tax credit, extending that. He thought it went beyond one year. If you worked it out to ten years, said it would be a lot more. But his colleagues, the Democratic colleagues said, look, this is not -- that is not what this bill is. This bill is paid for. And so there's a great deal of frustration and perhaps a sense of wasted time here in what they were doing, these back behind the scenes discussions with the president and with his colleagues. They are now accusing him of not being truthful and not really being a faithful negotiator."

America is in for a lot more breakthrough infections. Here’s what to do if you fall sick.

My breakthrough infection started with a scratchy throat just a few days before Thanksgiving. Because I’m vaccinated, and had just tested negative for COVID-19 two days earlier, I initially brushed off the symptoms as merely a cold. Just to be sure, I got checked again a few days later. Positive. The result felt like a betrayal after 18 months of reporting on the pandemic. And as I walked home from the testing center, I realized that I had no clue what to do next.
I had so many questions: How would I isolate myself in a shared apartment? And why for 10 days, like the doctor at the testing site had advised? Should I get tested again? Following the doctor’s orders, my partner—who had tested negative—dragged a sleeping bag to the couch. Masks came on, windows went up, and flights were canceled. I ate flavorless dinners on my side of the apartment. One by one, the symptoms I knew so well on paper made their real-life debut: cough, fever, fatigue, and a loss of smell so severe, I couldn’t detect my dog’s habitually fishy breath.
Turns out I wasn’t the only one feeling baffled about what to do. “Oh yeah, people are very confused about breakthrough cases,” Peter Chin-Hong, an expert on infectious diseases at UC San Francisco, told me. Now that the Omicron variant is here, many more Americans may soon have to deal with breakthrough confusion. There’s a lot we don’t know about the new variant, but it’s spreading fast. Although the unvaccinated remain most at risk, vaccinated America isn’t in the clear: While the shots still seem effective at preventing hospitalization and death, early reports suggest that they are less effective against milder cases. So if you do get a breakthrough infection right now, what should you do?

At least for now, Omicron shouldn’t change how Americans act when they get a breakthrough infection. “All of the same things stand, whether it’s Delta, Omicron, or any other Greek letter or non-Greek letter of SARS-CoV-2,” says Stephen Kissler, an epidemiologist at Harvard. “Once you know you’re infected, hang tight, limit your encounters with other people, and just take care of yourself.”............................
