The campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination has been civil, respectful and substantive – especially compared to the Republicans’.

..............................

In a year defined by voter anger, it is important to remember that voting isn’t simply an exercise in emotional self-expression. It’s not about casting a ballot for the candidate who is as angry as you are. Nor is it matter of which candidate best matches a voter’s checklist of positions on issues. Voting is a hiring decision for perhaps the toughest job in the world. It is that perspective that colors our decision to endorse former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Tuesday’s Massachusetts Democratic primary.

The first job of the Democratic nominee is to defeat the Republican nominee in November. Polls say Clinton and Sanders are both competitive with the GOP candidates, but polls aren’t reliable this far out. After decades of being battered by her political enemies, Clinton has a lower ceiling than Sanders, who is still little-known to most of the country. But the Republicans and their media allies have not yet begun to demonize Sanders, and Clinton has made little attempt to scuff up his image. We cannot say, at this point, which of the two will be more electable eight months from now.

The most important question, then, becomes which candidate would be better at governing. Here Clinton’s strengths, and Sanders’ weaknesses, make it an easy call...............................

Whow--look at how many offices and paid staff Bernie had in SC!! -and he still went down...

I heard that Bernie was a bit miffed last evening. Wasting all this money would do the trick

There is a revolution happening and it's being led by Hillary Clinton.

Bernie claimed high voter turnout and new voters will propel his Revolution. Not happening.

She shows the patience and discipline to work with opponents toward progress.

Matt Rourke • Associated Press

Minnesota Democrats heading to caucus on Tuesday face a dilemma similar to that of South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, who recently said that his “heart and head” were in different places when it came to endorsing Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. After reflection, he came down on the side of Clinton, where he said “my heart has always been.”

We believe Clinton is the clear choice over Sanders for heart and head alike. A force on the national landscape for more than 30 years, Clinton has distinguished herself in foreign and domestic policy in ways that make her well-suited to represent the party in November.

......President Obama has said his biggest regret was his inability to breach the divide between Democrats and Republicans. The next president must demonstrate some capacity for working with opponents, for seeking reasonable compromise, while remaining committed to a firm set of values. Clinton has done so throughout her career.
