"John D. Sutter is a columnist for CNN Opinion who focuses on climate change and social justice. Follow him on Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook or subscribe to his email newsletter. "

Washington (CNN)A 16-year-old walked up to the microphone.
"The state of the planet is unraveling all around us because of our addiction to fossil fuels," Xiuhtezcatl Martinez said at the steps of the US Supreme Court this week. "For the last several decades, we have been neglecting the fact that this is the only planet that we have and that the main stakeholders in this issue (of climate change) are the younger generation. Not only are the youth going to be inheriting every problem that we see in the world today -- after our politicians have been long gone -- but our voices have been neglected from the conversation.

"Our politicians are no longer representing our voices."

So, what's a voiceless kid to do?

How about sue President Donald Trump and his administration -- and then march to the White House?

Martinez is one of 21 young people taking Trump and members of his administration to federal court over inaction on global warming. On Saturday, several of these "climate kid' plaintiffs -- the youngest is 9 -- will walk alongside the chanting and sign-pumping adults at the March for Climate, Jobs and Justice in Washington. That demonstration is a call for a clean energy revolution, and it's expected to draw thousands. Perhaps fittingly, local forecasts call for potentially record-setting temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Demonstrators plan to converge on the White House.

Lindsey Donovan, a mother and a gun owner from Georgia, is rallying with Rep. John Lewis against the NRA's "guns everywhere" agenda. She spoke to Shareblue as Donald Trump locked arms with the NRA at its annual convention.
Moms Demand Action

As the NRA holds its annual convention in Atlanta, Georgia Rep. John Lewis will be headlining a rally put together by gun safety advocates from Moms Demand Action and the Everytown Survivor Network.

The groups hope to “to stand and fight back against the NRA leadership’s dangerous ‘guns everywhere’ agenda that contributes to the more than 90 Americans who are shot and killed and the hundreds more who are injured every day.”

The NRA is currently advocating for “campus carry” in Georgia, which would make colleges and universities another free fire zone in American life. The organization is also opposed to enhanced background checks and has been pushing the Trump administration to help make silencers more accessible.

Shareblue spoke with Lindsey Donovan, who is an Army veteran, Muslim, gun owner, and the wife of an active-duty soldier who will be marching with Lewis.

Donovan said she became a part of the gun safety movement after Georgia passed its “guns everywhere” bill, which allowed residents to take guns into bars, night clubs, school classrooms, and some government buildings.

Shock poll: Clinton voters represent real America

http://shareblue.com/shock-poll-clinton-voters-represent-real-america/#.WQS1pbe2eEk.twitter
By Leah McElrath | April 29, 2017

The thoughts, feelings, and motivations of Trump voters have been, and continue to be, a frustratingly central focus of much of the corporate media and opinion polling. But one polling outlet finally offered up a similar examination of Americans who supported, in the pollster's own words, "the top vote getter."

HFA
.......

We already knew that Trump has rock-bottom, record low approval ratings from the nation as a whole. And the numbers get even worse in PPP’s results. 88 percent of Clinton voters disapprove of Trump’s performance as president, with only 6 percent approving, while 89 percent of those voters have an unfavorable opinion of Trump overall, with only 7 percent holding a favorable opinion.

Even more cutting, a mere 2 percent of Clinton voters say that Trump has “Made American Great Again,” while 93 percent say he has not — ubiquitous red hats notwithstanding. And 70 percent of them support impeaching Trump, with only 15 percent opposing the notion.

On domestic issues, Clinton voters unsurprisingly and overwhelmingly stand in opposition to Trump:
82 percent are against the Republicans’ plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act; 92 percent oppose building an American-taxpayer-funded wall on the Mexican border; and 90 percent want Trump to release his tax returns.

And on a global level, alongside strong unfavorable opinions of Russia in general and Russian President Vladimir Putin in particular, comes one particularly striking and unsettling data point:

Climate March expected to draw massive crowd to D.C. in sweltering heat

On what could be a record-hot day, tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to assemble in Washington on Saturday. Their large-scale climate change protest will mark President Trump’s first 100 days in office, which have been punctuated by multiple rollbacks of environmental protections and Obama climate policies.

The People’s Climate March, which originated with a massive demonstration in New York in September 2014, picked a symbolically striking day for its 2017 event. Temperatures could exceed 90 degrees and possibly set a record for April 29 in the District, which would amplify the movement’s message.

Marchers are sure to be further galvanized by a move taken by the Environmental Protection Agency late Friday. The agency announced that it was beginning an overhaul of its website, which included taking down a long-standing site devoted to the science of climate change, which the agency said was “under review.” (The EPA did link to a snapshot of how the page looked on Jan. 19, before the Trump administration.)

The climate event differs from last week’s March for Science in its focus and also its participants — only 1 out of 8 planned contingents of Saturday’s protest will feature scientific researchers. The rest will include labor activists, indigenous people already facing severe effects from climate change, and children and young people who will live with the effects of climate change longest as the Earth continues to warm........................

EPA website removes climate science site from public view after two decades

This article has been updated.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday evening that its website would be “undergoing changes” to better represent the new direction the agency is taking, triggering the removal of several agency websites containing detailed climate data and scientific information.

One of the websites that appeared to be gone had been cited to challenge statements made by the EPA’s new administrator, Scott Pruitt. Another provided detailed information on the previous administration’s Clean Power Plan, including fact sheets about greenhouse gas emissions on the state and local levels and how different demographic groups were affected by such emissions.

The changes came less than 24 hours before thousands of protesters were set to march in Washington and around the country in support of political action to push back against the Trump administration’s rollbacks of former president Barack Obama’s climate policies.

“As EPA renews its commitment to human health and clean air, land, and water, our website needs to reflect the views of the leadership of the agency,” J.P. Freire, the agency’s associate administrator for public affairs, said in a statement. “We want to eliminate confusion by removing outdated language first and making room to discuss how we’re protecting the environment and human health by partnering with states and working within the law.”...............

2 — Cantor Fitzgerald survived both losing the largest single number of employees (658) of any company with offices in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and they also survived the financial crisis because they were NOT engaging in the same reckless behavior as the other financial firms (like Lehman, AIG, et al).

Moreover, Cantor Fitzgerald has done a great deal of philanthropic work in honor of their lost employees. Along with keeping a promise to use 25% of ALL profits they earned for the next 5 years to provide money to each of the original 658 families, they also promised to cover the health insurance costs for those families for 10 years. On top of this, they have continued the legacy of those lost employees, by making charitable donations to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy and of a huge tornado, as well as other acts of kindness.

So Obama, now a PRIVATE CITIZEN, is giving a speech to a firm that survived a horrible tragedy that has impacted life in America in uncountable ways ever since, and who turned their pain into positive action by not only taking care of their own, but helping others as well. They have also recovered as a company, avoided the worst behaviors that led to the 2008 financial crisis (actually profiting in a year when so many larger investment firms folded — and hiring when thousands were being laid off), and continue to invest in smart ways (one current project involves connecting people with their own local “mom & pop” shops).

Basically, Obama is being paid to give a speech to the ONE company on Wall Street that no one should be criticizing. Oh, and by the way — he’s giving this speech at their annual healthcare conference… a subject that Obama cares deeply about — and will forever be associated with since his signature healthcare legislation has been dubbed “Obamacare”. It’s also an issue that Cantor Fitzgerald championed even while still reeling from the losses they suffered on 9/11, by promising to cover the health care of the families of their lost employees for 10 years!!.................

MADISON - A Syrian man and asylum recipient was reunited with his family this week after prevailing in a legal case that took on President Donald Trump's immigration order.

The plaintiff, a Sunni Muslim man known as John Doe, saw his wife and young daughter for the first time Wednesday after more than three years of separation. The family is now safe in Wisconsin where they intend to live, his attorneys said.

The Syrian man didn't win a definitive ruling in his case, but instead got the immigration order temporarily blocked by a judge here before withdrawing the case Friday. That gave the plaintiff enough time to win asylum for his wife and 3-year-old child through the same process that he had completed earlier.

"In the face of two executive orders that sought to prevent innocent refugees and asylum seekers from seeking safety in the United States, the reunion of John Doe’s family is a victory, not just for our client and his wife and young daughter, but for the rule of law as well," said Vincent Levy, a partner at the Syrian's lead law firm of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP................

Officials in the President Donald Trump administration are considering Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. for a job with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Clarke is to be appointed as assistant secretary at the department's Office of Partnership and Engagement where he would coordinate outreach to state and local law enforcement agencies, Politico, an online news company, reported Friday. The position of assistant secretary does not require Senate confirmation.

On Friday, sources confirmed that news of the possible appointment is coming out now because Trump officials recently completed their background check of the sheriff. Trump staffers are a few steps away from making the appointment. One source said it could take more than a month to finish the process.

...............
On Friday, Clarke was in Atlanta speaking at a leadership conference for the National Rifle Association,................................

In his speech Friday, Clarke told the gun-rights activists: "You see, our fight for freedom continues in earnest," according to a report on The Washington Times website. "You see, these rat bastards on the left never give up."
