............................As the New York Times reported late Monday, the White House-appointed director of the United States Geological Survey, James Reilly, a former astronaut and petroleum geologist, has ordered that scientific assessments produced by that office use only computer-generated climate models that project the impact of climate change through 2040, rather than through the end of the century, as had been done previously.
As a result, according to the Times, parts of the federal government will no longer fulfill what scientists say is one of the most urgent jobs of climate science studies: reporting on the future effects of a rapidly warming planet and presenting a picture of what the earth could look like by the end of the century if the global economy continues to emit heat-trapping carbon dioxide pollution from burning fossil fuels.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)the United Nations leading climate bodywarned in a landmark report last October that if carbon emissions are not dramatically and rapidly reduced, catastrophic effects of the climate crisis could be felt across the world as early as 2040.
But, as the Times reported, scientists say that Trump administrations attempt to cut off government climate projections at that year would give a misleading picture because the biggest effects of current emissions will be felt after 2040.....................................

I have no doubt that many of the #Trump #MAGA are cheering him on once again with this dangerous scientific attack.

Trump, says those troops supporting 'use of electromagnetic catapults were working for the enemy'

Trump tells troops that future US supercarriers are 'going to use steam' in a weird rant about an obsession he can't seem to shake

President Donald Trump criticized the Navy's plans to install new electromagnetic aircraft launch systems on its new Ford-class supercarriers while talking to US troops at a Memorial Day event in Japan.
............ During Tuesday's talk, Trump polled US 7th Fleet troops aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, asking the crowd of sailors and Marines which was better, steam or electromagnetic catapults.
The troops overwhelmingly supported the use of steam; however, there were some who cheered for the newer system.
Trump a staunch proponent of traditional steam catapults that are less complex than the alternatives, which he believes a person must be "Albert Einstein" to fully understand and operate quipped that service members who supported the use of electromagnetic catapults were working for the enemy.
As he has done many times throughout his presidency, Trump championed the use of steam catapults to launch aircraft from the Navy's new carriers.
"Steam's only worked for about 65 years perfectly," the president explained. "They have a $900 million cost overrun on this crazy electric catapult. I said, 'What was wrong with steam?'"
"We want to go with steam," he further remarked. "They are always coming up with new ideas ... They want to show next, next, next. And we all want innovation, but it's too much. There's never been anything like the steam catapult." ...............................

Devin Nunes challenged by a young Republican with deep ties to his Fresno district
By Bob Brigham - May 27, 2019
Controversial Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) is being challenged by a fellow Republican in the 2020 election, the San Joaquin Valley Sun reports.
Nunes drew his first challenger when Amir Daryoush Rezvani Sarabi, who simply goes by Dary Rezvani, filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission on Friday, The Sun said.
Rezvani was born and raised in Fresno before attending Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno.
Dary is no stranger to the burden of student loans, the perils of an unstable healthcare system, or a tax system that hurts local businesses while turning a blind eye to the corporations erasing the middle class, he argued on his website. In Congress, he will fight to strengthen our water supply, make it easier for local businesses to create jobs, and make healthcare and prescription drugs more affordable. Dary will be a voice for the valley.
During his contentious 2018 re-election effort, Nunes lost the support of The Fresno Bee which had supported him since 2002..................................

Facebook Won't Ban Actual Nazis Or Doctored Videos By GOP...See What They Do Ban
Facebook has unusual standards for what violates "Community Standards"
https://crooksandliars.com/2019/05/facebook-wont-ban-actual-nazis-or-doctored
A vile doctored video of Nancy Pelosi remains up on Facebook with the site vehemently defending its decision to leave it up. Why? Because they say users should decide for themselves if it is real. In fact, their company vice president for product policy and counterterrorism said We think its important for people to make their own informed choice for what to believe. Our job is to make sure we are getting them accurate information." This statement was made AFTER the video was determined to be a hoax.
So what does rise to a violation of "community standards" warranting removal from Facebook?
Apparently altering MAGA red hats into symbols of hate.
Yes, you read that right. An artist's depiction of a 2019 hate symbol (MAGA red hat) as swastikas and a KKK hood are simply unacceptable expressions, but proven hoax videos insinuating that the Democratic Speaker of the House is a drunk are totally fine with Facebook.
The artist, Kate Kretz, was banned from Facebook for violating "the platform's standards." Using red hats as reimagined Nazi paraphernalia is not ok because I guess Facebook doesn't want to offend delicate Nazis. Or make MAGA look like Nazis? I don't fully understand the violation, to be honest.

Trump tariffs threaten to drown gains from tax cuts
Source: the hill.
By Niv Elis - 05/26/19 06:11 PM EDT
President Trumps escalating trade war with China is threatening to wash away the positive economic effects from his signature tax cuts, which could endanger his reelection prospects.
Trump has regularly pointed to the booming economy as a central reason he believes he will be reelected and credits the tax cuts with boosting output and bringing down unemployment.
But economists say that his latest tariffs are all but canceling out the effects of the tax cuts for all but the wealthiest American families. An additional round of tariffs Trump has threatened in hopes of securing a trade deal with China could tip the scales altogether.
Its a very risky strategy, says Nicole Kaeding, vice president of Federal Projects at the Tax Foundation, a right-leaning think tank.
The tax cuts and jobs act is pro-growth. It should increase the size of the U.S. economy in the long run and is expected to create jobs. The tariffs, however, move in the opposite direction, she continued........................................

ah, but these Patriots will gladly swallow any losses.
Or, perhaps Trump will give out more tax dollars as bribes like he is doing for the farmers.

(CNN)Dr. Scott Allen and Dr. Pamela McPherson were used to working behind the scenes, quietly documenting the devastating things they'd seen.
Children's fingers crushed by cell doors. A boy who'd lost nearly a third of his body weight in a matter of days. Incorrect vaccine doses and missed diagnoses.
Each incident, the doctors say, was meticulously noted in reports they filed with the US Department of Homeland Security. Allen and McPherson -- an internist and a psychiatrist -- are expert consultants contracted by the department's Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
Their mission: inspecting the facilities where US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detains immigrant families..............................................
......... Numerous children who suffered severe finger injuries while confined in a facility that was designed as a medium-security prison for adults.
"That one really bothered me," Allen says, describing how they uncovered the pattern by combing through the charts of children who'd been taken to the emergency room.
"These are shattered fingers, significant lacerations -- probably some of the injuries disfiguring. And you start to think about how they're happening. And they're these heavy, spring-loaded doors in a facility that was constructed to have adult males ... and the light bulb goes on that this is a complete disaster," he says. "Because they're using cells, but they paint them pretty colors and they now call them dorm rooms. But it's got the same door."
Once the problem was pointed out, he says, officials were still slow to correct it -- something that Allen says was "very discouraging to see."
"Somewhere out there there's kids walking around with disfigured fingers for the rest of their life," he says, "because no one could really get their act together to fix that problem."....................................
GOP Rep. Scolds Trump For Tweeting Doctored Pelosi Video

GOP Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) on Sunday chided President Donald Trump for tweeting a doctored video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
You shouldnt disseminate information that you know is ultimately doctored, Hurd said during an appearance on Face the Nation.
On Thursday, Trump tweeted PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE with a video of Pelosi that had been edited to make her seem like she was slurring her speech.
..................................
There are a lot of things that are concerning with that video of Speaker Pelosi, Hurd told Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan.
This is going to escalate this debate and this fight, the Republican congressman continued. And again, this is something that gets at the heart of our democracy when it comes to disinformation.

One Upper East Side family is sending Washington University a big, fat rejection letter.
On Friday, the governor of Missouri, where the well-respected school is located, signed a bill outlawing abortion after eight weeks.
The legislation was a deal-breaker for Ellen Bender and her daughter, Eliza, a junior at Horace Mann prep school, who planned to visit the school in June.
These laws are not really good for women, said Ellen, a retired litigator. It puts my child into a situation [where] I might think twice about her safety.
Missouri joins five other states Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana that have passed so-called heartbeat bills this year.
In April, Alabama passed a bill where doctors who perform abortions in the state could face 99 years in prison.
The bans, which are not yet in effect, are being vehemently fought by everyone from lawmakers and Hollywood celebrities to high-schoolers making college plans......................................
Ken Cuccinelli Once Compared Immigration Policy To Pest Control, Exterminating Rats

Ken Cuccinelli Once Compared Immigration Policy To Pest Control, Exterminating Rats

By Nick Wing
Virginia attorney general and GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli told Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) in 2012 that he was a huge fan, and now it turns out that the two share a knack for drawing controversial comparisons when it comes to immigration policy.
Cuccinelli made his strange remark during a radio interview in 2012. Speaking on the conservative radio show The Morning Majority, the attorney general launched into a critique of Washington, D.C.s pest control policies, which he claimed protected rats from being killed.
.....
They have to relocate the rats. And, not only that, thats actually not the worst part, they cannot break up the families of the rats! Cuccinelli said, incorrectly suggesting that the Districts 2010 Wildlife Protection Act forced pest control specialists to dump them across the river in Virginia.
Cuccinelli then made his comparison.
So, anyway, it is worse than our immigration policy, he said. You cant break up rat families. Or raccoons, and all the rest, and you cant even kill em. Its unbelievable.
Its unclear what Cuccinelli meant by that perhaps that he believes the nations immigration policy is better because it allows for immigrant families to be broken up but the comments come to light as the gubernatorial candidate attempts to finesse his position on immigration reform. In the past week, hes expressed positions that make him sound like both a moderate and a hardliner on the issue, depending on the audience.
Welcome to our sad, new, distorted reality -- the explosion of fake: fake videos, fake people on Face

Welcome to our sad, new, distorted reality the explosion of fake: fake videos, fake people on Facebook, and daily cries of "fake news."
Driving the news: This week we reached a peak fake, with Facebook saying it had deleted 2.2 billion fake accounts in three months, a fake video of Speaker Nancy Pelosi going viral, and Trump going on a fresh "fake news" tear.
A Pew survey last year found that two-thirds of tweeted links to popular websites came from non-human users (bots or other automated accounts), per Axios' Neal Rothschild.
Why it matters: This is just a small taste of our unfiltered future. It's only going to get easier to generate fake audio, fake videos and even fake people and to spread them instantly and virally.
Fake polls, fake experts, fake fundraisers and even fake think tanks are proliferating.
More than half of internet traffic comes from bots, not people, in this astonishing tour of our fake world: ...............
