MILWAUKEE —WISN 12 News has learned a network freelance television reporter was arrested after going to the door of Sheriff David Clarke's Milwaukee home.
The 64-year-old Chicago-based reporter was arrested Sunday at Clarke's house at Clarke's request. His home is watched around the clock by a uniformed sheriff's deputy.

WISN 12 News is not naming the reporter because the district attorney hasn't decided yet whether to charge him.
To get to the sheriff's front door, the journalist would have had to pass several no trespassing signs making it clear the sheriff does not welcome any uninvited guests.

Keeping with the Trump campaign’s assertion that voting in the U.S. is “rigged,” a spokesperson for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump told a stunned Jake Tapper that President Barack Obama may have stolen North Carolina’s electoral votes in 2008 via fraud.

“Barack Obama may have won — that Barack Obama may have won in 2008 in North Carolina due to illegal voting,” he claimed as Rye blurted, “Oh my God.”
“Boris, where are you getting that from?” an incredulous Tapper shot back. “Barack Obama won in North Carolina because of voter fraud?”
A laughing Rye added, “It’s outrageous.”
After a pause, Epshteyn said, “Look at the Washington Post story saying 5 percent of voting in North Carolina may have been by non-citizens who shouldn’t have been voting and swung North Carolina to Mr. Obama — to President Obama — because of how tight the race in North Carolina was in 2008.”
A resigned Tapper moved on, asking Epshteyn....................

Note: The post occasioned three rebuttals (here, here, and here) as well as a response from the authors. Subsequently, another peer-reviewed article argued that the findings reported in this post (and affiliated article) were biased and that the authors’ data do not provide evidence of non-citizen voting in U.S. elections.
Could control of the Senate in 2014 be decided by illegal votes cast by non-citizens? Some argue that incidents of voting by non-citizens are so rare as to be inconsequential, with efforts to block fraud a screen for an agenda to prevent poor and minority voters from exercising the franchise, while others define such incidents as a threat to democracy itself. Both sides depend more heavily on anecdotes than data.
In a forthcoming article in the journal Electoral Studies, we bring real data from big social science survey datasets to bear on the question of whether, to what extent, and for whom non-citizens vote in U.S. elections. Most non-citizens do not register, let alone vote. But enough do that their participation can change the outcome of close races.
Our data comes from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES). Its large number of observations (32,800 in 2008 and 55,400 in 2010) provide sufficient samples of the non-immigrant sub-population, with 339 non-citizen respondents in 2008 and 489 in 2010. For the 2008 CCES, we also attempted to match respondents to voter files so that we could verify whether they actually voted........................

GREEN BAY – Seeming unfazed by recent controversy surrounding his presidential campaign, a defiant Donald Trump Monday doubled down on claims that he is the target of a conspiracy to keep him out of office.
In a speech to about 3,000 people at the KI Convention Center, the Republican nominee stressed his familiar talking points — retaining jobs, limiting immigration and repealing the Affordable Healthcare Act, or "Obamacare" — while mixing in a proposal to curtail the influence of government lobbyists.
Three weeks before the election, Trump arrived in Green Bay trailing Democrat Hillary Clinton by 7 points in Wisconsin, but leading by 16 in the Green Bay media market. Nationally, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released this weekend shows Trump trailing by 11 points among likely voters, though an ABC News/Washington Post poll has him trailing by only 4.
Trump, though, dismissed those numbers, saying the only poll that matters is the one taking place on election day.

A group of influential progressive intellectuals are giving Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton their seal of approval ― and urging fellow progressives, including those who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Democratic primaries, to do the same.
In a letter that went public on Tuesday and was provided in advance to The Huffington Post, more than 50 progressive economists and other policy experts endorse Clinton’s candidacy ― not simply as a way to defeat GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, but also as a way to advance a liberal economic agenda.
The letter warns that “drastic increases in income inequality have created a deep malaise among many Americans who are increasingly excluded from the promise of a better future.” Then it offers an overview of Clinton’s proposals ― including a higher minimum wage, big spending on infrastructure and new early childhood education programs ― that are designed to bolster economic fortunes for the poor and middle class.
Many, and probably most voters don’t know about Clinton’s agenda. And those who do may not have faith she’ll pursue those policies in office. ..................

Smith spoke in July at the Republican National Convention, where she delivered an emotional speech laying blame for her son’s death squarely at the feet of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
“I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son,” Smith said then. “Personally.”
In her convention speech, Smith accused Clinton of lying to the families of the four Americans who were killed in the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya. Smith said Clinton, secretary of state at the time, falsely attributed the attacks to a spontaneous protest over an anti-Islamic video rather than a planned assault. The speech, which left some Republican convention delegates in tears, concluded with Smith saying Clinton should go to prison.
In a statement sent to Yahoo News about Smith’s attendance at the debate, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a top Trump campaign adviser and surrogate, suggested that Smith’s presence at the debate might push Clinton to give the families of victims a “solid answer” as to why the U.S. government did not successfully rescue all of its personnel in Benghazi................

Donald Trump says Paul Ryan may be trying to harm his chances of being president in 2016 because Ryan wants to run for president in 2020.
In an interview that aired on Good Morning America Tuesday, the GOP nominee was asked whether he thought the speaker of the House was rooting for him to win in November.
"Well, maybe not, because maybe he wants to run in four years or maybe he doesn’t know how to win,” Trump said. "I mean, who can really know. But I know I’m in his territory and they are all screaming for Trump.”............
