My family member also has SSDI for psych disability.

It has worked fairly well, in that she has received a monthly check, which helps support her, though not completely.
I subsidize her insurances, rent, etc.

It doesn't matter to whom you are giving aid and comfort.
You believe what you believe regardless of where others fall in their own beliefs or unbeliefs.
It's nobody else's business and there is no right or wrong in belief if it is sincerely formed and held.
IIRC, Suze Orman recommends funding the HSA fully at the beginning of the year, if possible.
If not possible, then make it a priority for saving for it.
Apparently, it can be used as a sort of emergency fund.
Suze Orman recommends Health Savings Accounts very highly, for
some of the reasons already mentioned on this thread.
I respect her advice & opinions.
Perhaps you can tell your physicians of your problems with high prescription costs.
They might be able to prescribe alternatives at lower cost.
