No Vested Interest's JournalI'm thinking of the young people whom we recognize as saints-
Maria Goretti, Agnes, Tarcisius, Theresa of the child Jesus.
Also those to whom apparitions were made were/are often children - the children of Fatima, St. Bernadette.
Confirmation could and maybe should be delayed until the 12-13 year, when more conscious decisions can be made re religious beliefs.
He was eating a McDonald's, not
"at a neighborhood McDonald's".
Also, he was not the first one on the scene; Angel, across the street from Ariel's house, was there first, but doesn't communicate well in english, so newscasters chose Charles Ramsey for interviews.
That being said, if Charles Ramsey gets a few breaks as a result of his participation, more power to him. He seems like a good guy.
I disagree somewhat with those who say separate completely
from your family.
I my mind, it's always good and wise to leave the slightest opening, if only to your mother.
Obviously, she (and they) are ignorant of your real needs and likely would continue to hurt you if given a chance.
However, for your own sake, keep in touch with your mother - on her birthday a card, just wishing her well and letting her know you are getting along. - Nothing wordy, not even a return address if you feel that's best. But that small gesture will help diminish the hole you have in your heart re your family.
I have seen in my extended family the hurt and harm that can not be undone completely because of all the time gone by and times unshared. Thankfully, healing has been done, but only after the death of the instigator.
Please continue to keep in touch via DU. There is much kindness and empathy here, and there are those that can suggest means. even though small to bring you to the fuller life you deserve. (And you do deserve that, I hope you realize.)
I saw a bit of that Vitter interview the other night, too.
Didn't stick around long because not only do I dislike Vitter, but Raymond Arroyo gives me the creeps.
He has an unfortunate smug look, - perhaps he can't help the looks he was born with, - but he is, as stated above, decidedly right wing.
A majority of the guests are conservatives as well - Bill Donahue, Laura Ingraham, etc.
They use the term "liberal" as a dirty word.
There are a a few of the programs I enjoy - the Journey Home, hosted by Marcus Grodi is one.
Sometimes Johnette Benkovic has interesting guests, as in a recent woman wrote on "Embracing Dementia".
I've considered writing an OP for this group on what DUers like and dislike about EWTN, - perhaps it's been done before I arrived.
In my mind there's a big difference between Laws of the church and God's laws
Laws of the church are man-made, such as attending Mass every Sunday and on Holydays, or abstaining from meat on Fridays in Lent.
God's laws spring from the Ten Commandments, the commands of Jesus, and from natural law.
Laws of the Church vary during different eras, places, and cultures. Ex. -Holydays are not uniform throughout the world, and their observation may be changed by local hierarchy.
Although I have a general intention of observing the laws of the church, I do not beat myself up if I can not or do not keep every one all the time, and, I believe, they are not seriously sinful (mortal) in the way a grievous act contrary to God's law or natural law would be.
I would find it interesting to hear the conversations in your elevator at work. (LOL)
If he is celibate and has not a past that would give scandal
He could remain a priest who serves in a non-public manner, for example, at a retirement center for priests or for the elderly.
His current age could also play a part. If he's young perhaps he's better off laicized; if older - too old to adapt to another life, he could be accommodated in some way.
I don't know enough about this case to comment knowledgeably.
Perhaps you should do a review for TripAdvisor and

Don't know if this Ding-a-ling fits that profile, but much has been written on the subject, calling them "Little Emperors".
Yes, I know all single children are not "brats", but apparently the phenomenon in China is enough to be recognized by their own people.
Current will need to change its name
to a name more acceptable to the American public than "Al Jazeera", if they wish to have any measurable audience in this country.
Many Americans will not be able to get past the name when choosing a network to trust.
Shouldn't be this way, but, let's be realistic here.
