"Voter Fraud is Real" (challenge from a right-winger friend)

Talking with a right wing friend of mine, I mentioned that disenfranchisement was a concern, to which he replied something like "not remotely, anyone can vote!" and proceeded to hit me with a bunch of links on voter fraud (dead people voting and such). I realize that's a waste of time to delve through, but I was wondering if I could be pointed to some scholarly sites dedicated to the issues of voter fraud/disenfranchisement, and all the related sort of stuff that I need to refer back to when this comes up.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I don't mean to sound lazy, I've googled a ton of info myself but I want to find serious, scholarly research on the topic in order to give proper references in these discussions.

Thanks!

Clinton Wins. Trump Refuses to Concede. What Happens Next?

So he's going to lose.

Bigly.

And then he, what? Tweets that it's rigged? Refuses to address the nation? Calls for a revolt?

In the meantime, the winner usually waits for a phone call from the loser, which we know in this case will probably not come.

So what does President Hillary Clinton do...

Give the speech without the call?

Wait a day or two and see what he does?

Something in-between?

This is kind of a thing, isn't it (since the whole Bush v. Gore and all)? We're sailing into uncharted territory here if Trump decides to be obstinate. There has never been a precedent as far as I know.

What do you all think will go down?

My money is on President Clinton ignoring the troll and giving her speech as if he'd conceded, shortly after the media calls it (if I were here, I'd give the speech MOMENTS AFTER they call it, and not even give him a chance to place the call...but I'm probably more petulant than President Clinton will be).

First Priority this term? EDUCATION!

Here's a Facebook comment I found, verbatim, from just before the debate - the discussion was from a few right wingers about how Trump is sure to win:

"Yes trump will win becouse he is fit to be a President Hillary is not fit to many mudder's and lies and all the raping he husband done and Hillary letting that man rape that 12 year old litter girl and Hillary laugh about it"

Seriously Secretary Clinton - Education. Priority one. Please?

When right wingers lose, they blame it on "Lack of Purity".

Whereas when we on the left lose a battle, we lament the fact that our candidate wasn't conservative enough to "appeal to the middle", OR we blame other candidates for driving us "too far to the left".

Anyone else thing that's a fucked-up mindset on our part, given the current landscape?

Seen on DU: Trump & Clinton struck a deal in which he plays "the heel".

Someone actually suggested that the whole Trump candidacy was drummed up by the Clintons in order to assure a Hillary victory, making him the scary boogyman people would fear to vote for.

Then that person finished with "stranger things have happened in American politics".

I just started this topic to learn about those stranger things.

Anyone have some?

For me, that's the most absurd notion, though given the cartoonish nature of this election season, the thought doesn't completely dismiss itself in my mind.

So, have you seen or learned about stranger things than that?

Has Trump ever taken questions from the general public?

It just occurred to me that in all the time since Trump became a thing, he's been questioned only by the media, whom he has repeatedly dismissed as 'very dishonest'.

What happens in a general debate when he's got to answer the question of sincere folks? When he needs to follow up a well-crafted answer by the democratic nominee or, worse, gives that person a chance to rebut something callous, stupid, or outright racist (I'm thinking Clinton vs. Bush back in 1992, the question that turned the election)

Seems to me that the best course of action for the democrats is to make sure any debates have a significant public element, with as little professional media intervention as possible. They should moderate, definitely, but the questions should come from elsewhere.

Now I understand why Justin Bieber was so pissy.

Prince @ #2, #3, #4 - Bieber falls to #8.

Punked.

President Obama's Toast Mishap

This unfortunate mishap is making the rounds again as though it just happened, with typical comments about "that oaf" or "what a buffoon" by right wing troglodytes.

As painful a situation as it seemed, I don't think it was the president's fault at all. The band leader blew it by striking up the anthem (even if that were the cue, were people supposed to be saying "hear hear!" and raising glasses to the opening strains? I think not...the band leader simply jumped the gun).

At that point it seems the president thought it was a musical accompaniment (perfectly reasonable assumption for those of us not mired in royal protocol), and soldiered on. But when the queen then ignored him, that was quite rude if you ask me. Perhaps she was "following protocol" and all that, but she's the queen! Is she bound by protocol? I think not.

Perhaps she was taken aback too, and didn't know quite how to handle things, but come on. You don't sit there and allow your guest to be embarrassed. When dignitaries visit the White House, are they not treated with deference and respect?

Anyway, just wanted to add my 2 cents to this right winger poutrage thing since it cropped up again.

Sanders used a TelePopeter!

Unfair!

April 15, 2016

Anybody know Sanders' Schedule at the Vatican?

I'd love to follow along, if possible.

What's his schedule for the next day or two in Rome?

Anyone have any links to live video of his speech?

Thanks in advance!
